Double Fine Adventure Kickstarter project by Double Fine [ended, $3.3 Million funded]

Pledged $30. Just saw the numbers.

"33 Days to Go" :lol

Maybe they'll make so much money they can grab the remainder and supplement Notch's pledge on Psychonauts 2 and we can get SUPER HD PSYCHONAUTS 2 for Wii U launch, Xbox 720 and PS4!

Believe!

No. I lied about something, I edited a post to try to hide that lie, and I rightly got demodded for it. Nothing about tone at all. It was my own fault!
So you do love Wii Sports!

Chipped in $30. On the fence about bumping up to $100. I bet my name would whizz by pretty fast with the number of $100+ pledges thus far!

And PC.

Or there will be blood.

And only 30K to go to a million! This is amazing.

Wow. You are a treasure.

Let's just forget the history of everyone involved with this project, and the fact that Double Fine releases worthwhile content on a more frequent basis than 95% of the industry, though. You're probably right. It's probably just a

to rip off everyone's money and run away to Borneo.

Okay, where is the design document.

Where is the budget sheet.

Oh wait, it's just a guy on your computer asking you for money.

haha

You should try to do the same! People are obviously fools, I'm sure there are people there willing to throw money at you.

Less than $3k to go before the RTS elements get added in. HYPE!

Do you know how the site works? Do you know who these people are?

They'll make so much money that Psychonaughts 2 will become a 20 hour "mini-game" on a computer background of the most epic multi-million dollar adventure game every made.

Haha, well I tried to. I even did the stereotypical "get my family together on launch day and show them the wonders of waggling the horrific mii's around the screen" thingy:

PC too, yes of course. I'm so happy for Doublefine, though. Shows they have a really strong contingent of fans.

Holy shit. While I slept it went up almost 500k.Did I miss anything?

Personally? They haven't shown any documents (or at least none that I can find) that actually prove they need that much.

Yeah, it's "safe" because they've already put out games. Still, as investors, $400,000 is a lot to ask from people. $300k for the game, and $100k for the documentary. This isn't an open transaction. They ask for money under the promise that they'll make a game, one that developers say no to.

Although I bet Telltale would produce the game. But that's just guessing!

I don't think the "well then you just shouldn't contribute" is a good response because these documents should be there. Nobody cares though, they're just giving them more and more money with this:

"All money raised will go to make the game and documentary better. Additional money means it can appear on more platforms, be translated into more languages, have more music and voice, and an original soundtrack for the documentary, and more!"

as the only reason to not stop. What does that even mean. Giving them more money means they're going to cram more into the game in the same amount of time? Are they now going to have a big team on the game? Are they just going to pocket this and use the funds to release future DLC that the consumer will be asked to pay for?

Don't know! Tim just asked for money to make a game that they 'possibly' don't even have a concept document for. They've got more proof of a documentary that an actual game. It's disappointing that gamers responded so optimistically to something with the characteristics of a ponzi scheme.

Full troll.

It's over $980k so this is crunch time. We've only got 33 more days to hit $1 million or else we're getting stuck with another RTS. :(

Wow! You really want to see how the sausage is made then? The budget is dependent of the money of the Kickstarter campaign. The design document will be released when the budget is fixed.

EDIT: $15,000 TO GOOOOOO

The fact that he is calling it a ponzi scheme make it preeetty clear for him it really is hard to grasp lol

It only goes to show that, as much as people say they want drastic change, they really just want the same old shit. Or something.

Kickstarter, and services like it, are as close to the ideal way of funding a project as we're going to get.

dude i know. like, i got this email from a prince in nigeria. A PRINCE! IN NIGERIA!

The fact is that they are not being open with the actual costs that lead them to believe they needed $400,000. Now they've raised roughyl $600,000 more than asked and what do they say that means?

"All money raised will go to make the game and documentary better. Additional money means it can appear on more platforms, be translated into more languages, have more music and voice, and an original soundtrack for the documentary, and more!"

Okay. Compared to what?

EDIT: I get it, people want a Tim Schafer point and click. That's great! I honestly don't think Double Fine is going to scam you. I saw $100,000 for documentary and and $300,000 for the game in the video. That finally registered in my brain 30 minutes ago. That's still doesn't say that "Hey, we need this much for food for the crew during this time, this much for salaries, this for electricity/plumbing/etc." It's just $300,000. No explanation.

Yeah, that doesn't surprise me. I see this all the time in the industry. People like abuse. Doublefine is a great little company with real talent. I may not like everything they make, but I know they are capable of making things I do love and that they are a genuinely passionate development team with the right intent. It's similar to Nintendo in that way. I may criticize Wii Sports or Happy Action Theater, but I know it's the same company that can make a Mario Galaxy or a Psychonauts.

This is no ponzi scheme. This is progress. Let's do this Doublefine :D

It may interest you to know that people in this thread have already done the math on how much production on a game like this would cost based on the required positions (artist, programmer, etc.), average industry salaries, and the estimated development length. They came to the conclusion that a $300k budget was probably lowballing it.
