Well if the "real game begins in nightmare", why do I have to sacrifice 30 hours or whatever of my life to the Blizzard gods before I can play it?
More casual players will die on normal. Get over the hyperbole.

Its actually old video
What always surprise me that they are enthusiastic about being able one shot by monsters, its not good mechanic, it never was in D2.
Thats probably why we got huge boost to vitality in last patch, at least i hope so thats the reason.

Yes, because no other videogame in history has ever required you to beat the Normal difficulty to unlock the Hard difficulty! NONE! IT HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE, EVER!
For some reason, you've magically reappeared on my friends list again. I really hope Blizzard sorts out these bugs soon. They've been pretty good about others.
We need to play again. I want to test some things out.

What does it having happened before have to do with anything?
Anyway, the dude in the video said the "real game" begins in nightmare.. implying that that's when it starts to get fun or whatever. Then why not just let people start in nightmare if they want? Other games with an unlocked hard difficulty may or may not have had a fun and challenging normal difficulty.
Normal mode in this game sounds like a 30 hour chore to me (though of course this is not based on much more than people's beta impressions and other comments, so it could be different in the real product).
Its mainly due to the way Diablo works. You level up, get new loot which helps you to progress through the higher difficulties. If you could just pick Nightmare difficulty off the bat, you would keep dying over and over on the first monster.
Of course this gets easier the more classes you play, since you can give better items to your lower characters, which will help accelerate you through to the higher difficulties faster.
Nightmare is where the real game/challenge/rewards is/are. The early difficulties are so people can learn characters, find some gear and get ready for the harder stuff. If people cannot finish on Normal, then Nightmare is going to be way overpowered for them.
If it's at a similar level to Diablo 2, then fine. But the way people are talking, it sounds like normal nightmare hell inferno is more like, grandmother normal nightmare hell. Maybe that's not the way it really is, but Im really not looking forward to first experiencing the game in cakewalk mode.
Um, no, I think you have it a bit wrong. Normal in the beta, what little we can play, seems very much the same difficulty that the beginning of normal was in D2. To me anyway. From what I've been told and what I've seen, this is how the difficulty levels will translate:
D3 Normal = D2 Normal
D3 Nightmare = D2 Nightmare
D3 Hell = D2 Hell
D3 Inferno = Entire game of D3 jacked up to the very end of D2 Act 5 difficulty but on steroids
That's the way I've understood it.
Its easier than D2, without a question, mostly because You just need one weapon [lvl 3-4] to one/two hit everything, You dont need mana and dont need any def. There is also less enemies in D3 than in D2 normal.
I agree with you that you don't need mana or defense. Really don't need mana or defense in the first hour of D2 normal either.

You're inferring difficulty by judging the first third of the first fourth of the game based on metrics from a game with drastically different mechanics.
Stop it.
because inferno will be much more difficult than anything in D2.

How do you know that? Do you work at Blizzard too? Or are you just saying it because they said it?
It's better to say that we are inferring difficulty based on the general trending of mainstream video game design over the course of the past decade.

The start of D2 was mind boggling easy and with certain classes you could just rip through all of normal difficulty.
They are both just the starting areas where difficulty is supposed to be irrelevant (it's where people first learn to play so it needs to be easy). I don't think you can infer anything from the difficulty of the starting area.
Is it just me or does that slow, orchestral piece of music on the menu screen (one of the several pieces of music that are rotated in on menu screen) sound really similar to the Halo 3 title screen music, "Never Forget"?

(I couldn't find a link to the Diablo III music I'm talking about, but if you stay on the menu for a while it should start playing eventually).
So i cant compare two games first hours? Its not even different genre, its prequel vs sequel.
Different mechanics dont equal easier, You could have more monsters in beta, less hp, better scaling etc to make it harder, but You dont. Its easier, there is no argue about it.
You're not comparing the first two hours. You are actually judging Diablo III by Diablo II criteria.
So You know better than me what i think and what i'm comparing? Nice.
When i said anything that D3 is easier than D2?
I just said that first hour of D3 is easier than D2, thats all.
You couldnt make naked runs in D2, maybe except for sorc that isnt gear depend, but without any gear she was really easy to kill.

Probably not.
In case you guys didnt know:
Diablo III Planned for Q2 2012 [conference call]
On ladder maybe, but on single player you could set D2 on /players8 with any difficulty and it was on par with WoW heroic mode. Unless you decked out a new character, players8 was tough to start with on normal. You leveled up quicker, but still you could die pretty easily. Hell Act5 especially Worldstone Keep, Chaos Sanctuary and Mephisto runs on /players8 could be rough even with good gear. If you played hardcore mode, it was even worse when you died. Since everything is online now, doubtful you can use the /players command. Im sure Diablo 3 will be a challenge at higher difficulties, I just hope it isnt the cheap one shot deaths that happened in D2.World of Warcraft hardmodes blow away the difficulty of anything in D2. So does brutal difficulty in SC2. Diablo 2 does not have a mode where all of the monsters are always a few levels higher than your character. Given that Blizzard is promising inferno to be extremely difficult and that they have made some pretty challenging games recently, I have no reason to not believe them.

Hi, guys. I was wondering. I havent played Diablo II in years. Also, when I did I didnt really buy the game, it was through piracy.
So I was thinking about getting the game. But, I dont remember most of the game. So, could guys help me?
1. If I buy it here in Brazil, will I be able to play online with americans or are the servers kept separate?
2. Any really great mods out there?
3. I have been a console gamer most of my life. SO, using the keyboard is kinda difficult for me. Can I play the game well with just the mouse (or at least like 90% of the time)?
Thanks for all the help and hope we can all be playing Diablo III soon.![]()
Diablo II can mostly certainly be used with just the mouse 90% of the time. In fact, it's probably fine like 99% of the time. I think the only time people really used something other than the mouse was for buffs.

Playing the entire beta without hitting anything and only using "reflect damage" to hurt enemies.
lmao
haha. sad thing is how viable it is. i cant watch right now, but does it share how much 'attacker takes xx damage' amount he has? i
