Diablo 3 Beta [Beta withdrawal underway!]

So, I decided I wanted a dungeon loot game while I wait for Diablo 3. I used to love Diablo 2, played it every day for hours on end when I was back in highschool, and I've heard great things about Torchlight, so I picked it up. Hard to describe my disappointment...

The Small Things:
-Lack of any interesting story
-Annoying characters
-Hideous font

The Medium Things:
-The "Descending Tower" design of the story levels makes everything feel cramped and boring
-Bad art direction
-Boring quest design
-Yawn-worthy bosses

The Terrible Things:
-Only three classes
-The classes have next to no skills. I played a Vanquisher and in ten levels, the only new skill I got was a homing shot? The hell? Combat isn't satisfying with so few skills.
-Identifying is boring in this game. All unique shoulders are lumped into "Mysterious Shoulders," all helmets into "Mysterious Helmets," so on and so forth. Call me crazy but I loved how Diablo 2 used different base items for different uniques. Torchlight's way of loot identifying is nowhere as exciting.
-Loot in general is pretty lame. Sets don't have neat bonuses (one of the earlier sets gives +5% attack speed? Wow. How cool...). Uniques are alright I guess but the lack of base armor for some reason kills half the fun -- I liked to use certain base armors and weapons over others. Also there's no randomization in item stats? The randomization made looting the same item exciting.

Sigh. I guess I'll just have to wait until Q4 2015 for Diablo 3 to come out so I can quench my loot thirst.
pretty much agree totally

Are there even eu servers? Played with a few people from eastern europe but on us servers

How do you tell on which server are you? I assume that the servers are chosen according to your account, and you can't choose by yourself (just like in SC2).
All I know is that there are way too many US accounts which got the beta compared to EU accounts...

You know, you could just play Diablo 2. It still works, Battlenet is still up, it's still a hell of a lot of fun, and people still play it.

Yeah, I agree. You pretty much just described why I'm skeptical of Torchlight 2. Not even the modding community made Torchlight 1 a good game, there were no good mods for it.

The one thing I like about the no mods and the online only aspect of Diablo III is that it basically forces everyone to play on the same playing field. In other words, you can't cheat or mod the game to give yourself stupidly high stats or godly gear.

Agree 100%.

Looking at my mod list for Torchlight 1 I say it certainly helped with some issues.
  • Better Random Quest Rewards
  • Respec Mod
  • Immortal King Set
  • Stacking Mod
  • Leviathan
  • Tier 3 Ancient Items (ilvl 60-90)
  • Better Balanced Sale Prices
  • Enchants Never Wipe
  • iHateFishing

Seriously download HotSpot for Torchlight and the amount of things you can do with the game at least doubles, and especially helps with end game content. (Plus if you have the Steam version it can get you up to 3 achievements.)
There's a mod that lets you change the HUD to Diablo III and the font to Diablo II.

So this game STILL stutters like mad when streaming in new data (ie. the first time I see a particular monter, spell effect, death animation, etc). Muting sound doesn't help, nor does lowering graphics options and resolution. Even installing to a solid state drive has no effect. My computer can run significantly more demanding games at a perfect 60 FPS so I really don't get it.

Bashiok just posted this:

Thoughts on what he could be referring to, if anything?

Could be the updated blog post we're supposed to get regarding the recent changes.

I wouldn't get my hopes up too much for anything, really. I'm supposed to be in charge of the OP for this game, and since I'm not in the beta, I've just been kind of keeping low-key tabs on stuff so I don't get my excitement levels too high. Not going to lift a finger until we get a confirmed release date, which should give ample time to put it together (also, any/all game systems should be locked in stone by then).

You are a much stronger person than I. I am also not in the beta but for me all that does is make me more interested in every little piece of information.

The problem isn't on the user end, it has been a known bug, that apparently is fixed internally. They just, for whatever reason, haven't pushed it out to the beta.

Did they do a full account reset with the latest big patch? I haven't logged in since before they made the major system changes and just tried, noticing that I had no characters. Just curious.

New patch #13 might be soon, with all the character wipes that come along with it. Is anyone still up for more loot whoring?

I wonder if they'll do anything about rare farming with level 1 characters. Been testing it for a bit.

Do they wipe with every major patch? What about the Blizzard Bucks in the auction house?

Any idea what is changing in the patch? I'm at work and can't look at most gaming sites.

No specifics yet.

We’re currently in the process of preparing the next beta patch for release and wanted to provide all beta testers with a heads-up that a character wipe will be included. Please note that, as with previous character wipes, this wipe will also affect gold, items, followers, and artisans. (Beta Bucks will be reset, as well.)

We’re hoping to release Beta Patch 13 before the weekend, but we don’t yet have a precise ETA. As always, we’ll provide more information as it becomes available, and patch notes will be posted here once the patch is live.

Thanks for your continued feedback and testing!

Patch 13 coming this weekend!

To ensure that all systems and changes included in Beta Patch 13 are working properly, we've decided to take some extra time to continue internal testing. As a result, we will not be releasing Beta Patch 13 today. We will, however, be working through the weekend and look forward to delivering the patch on either Saturday or Sunday.

Thank you for your patience! Should any changes to this schedule occur, we'll be sure to provide an update in this thread.

Hmmm....perhaps we'll get to play with runes in the beta after all? Nothing is confirmed yet, however.

Plus a guy on reddit claims to know what's in the patch.

That first comment got it right. This patch sounds like a big one and whatever they change (for better or worse) is going to get some fuckers mad. I expect a meltdown or two on the official forums. Ready your popcorns.

Wonder if they'll finally fix the bug where it thinks the client needs to stream everything even if it's already downloaded. Kills performance so much.

I thought that was due in part to how they plan to counter map hacks? In other words everyone since the game world is randomized, they only send you parts of the map that you are near to in effect stop maphacks since the entire map is not available to the client until you walk there serverside.

Atleast that's what I thought was causing issues, since it wasn't working properly.

Well it's clearly not intentional because it's under their known issues thing.

I usually only get poor performance for the first minute or so of firing the game up at least, but it's still annoying.
