I cancelled my Amazon order of Katamari and bought it with my reward zone points at Best Buy. The last one I played was the 360 one. This one is so good - pocket Katamari is good Katamari.

Seems like I'll be getting more tax returns than I expected, which means I can afford a Vita! Will probably be getting HSG, Dynasty Warriors, and Rayman... man the check can't come soon enough.

One question: is Vita web browser good? It seems to be awful going by Youtube videos (ex: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nm9Dg06AgYQ ), but lots of people in this thread seem to like it. Also, does it support Youtube?

That's strange. The product page said that all pre-orders placed four business days prior to release are shipped within 24 hours of the release date. It doesn't say that now of course, but it did when I ordered it.

Where does it say it's backordered? It's probably right in front of my face too.
It doesn't.

I think maybe they just got super backed up on orders this past week and can't keep up with it. When I talked to support yesterday they told me Uncharted would go out today or Monday. My Hot Shots shipped on Thursday at least but I ordered it a day before UC.

Wonder if they're actually gonna be able to handle all the $239 Vita orders in a timely manner.

I haven't had to worry about this since I have unlimited data on Verizon, but if I have Wifi AND 3G on and the WiFi is actually connected to a network, will it use any 3g data if the 3G is on?

The web browser is the one real inferior component to the whole ecosystem right now. It's functional enough if you want to surf GAF and stuff but you're better off leaving anything more intensive to your PC and smartphone.

There will be a YouTube app launching next Tuesday that should cover you on that front.

Aww crap, I hope so!

When did they say that? I know there is the LiveTweet/Facebook/Flickr/Netflix apps that go up next Tuesday but I haven't heard anything about a Youtube one. Would be great if thats true.

Browser is OK. No Flash support I kind of expected but not having HTML5 support is just terrible.

I'm playing through Uncharted right now and I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that these visuals are actually on a handheld. Sony best not fuck this up, they really have created an amazing piece of hardware.

Dear Sony
Maybe you should issue geiger counters with every Vita so users can keep an eye on that nuclear reactor you have powering it.

There's gonna be a YouTube app? I didnt see it in the app list in the first couple of posts of this thread.

I don't get why people knock it. It loads EPSN, GAF, or any site I've gone to with ease. It doesn't do Youtube or stuff like that yet but other than that, the browser is fast and as good as the HTC smartphone or Kindle fire ones I've used in terms of ease and speed.

Some more pictures I took of the Vita just now. Hope you guys don't mind. This thing just looks so good!

I'm running into a few more rough edges with the Vita each time I play it. It's great hardware, but it's becoming obvious that Sony pulled a dick move and used the First Edition Bundle buyers as a sort of beta test group. Things are going on that should not be present in a system upon launch, and I think it's really terrible that most proposed fixes or updates are scheduled "for launch."

Sorry Sony, but you already launched this thing. You need to have it together, especially since you charged us a premium.

I think over time this will be a fantastic handheld, but I'm feeling a bit upset that I paid a premium for the FEB and we're still waiting on features and fixes.

Wow, you're right. I just sort of assumed I'd seen it mentioned. How could they not have YouTube? Seems like a no-brainer type of thing to include to compensate for a flash-gimped browser.
Sorry about the oversight. At least they've checked the Netflix box.

You would think they would have one though. They managed to get Nico Douga for Japan (w/c is essentially Japanese YouTube), so its a bit odd they couldnt get YouTube itself.

You guys should've seen how glaringly obvious it was that the FEB was a terrible value and just waited a week. :P

Oh that's nothing, when I went to Best Buy to put down my pre-order (about 2 weeks ago, Jan 31st to be exact!), the sale person thought it was odd I wanted to pre-order the launch bundle, not the FEB.

This is all a bunch of overblown and long text without being really specific. I don't feel crippled or somehow not in control. I mean, if you're going to make a long post stop right there and get specific. I can already tell you I have little gripes but there are some such as not receiving notifications fast enough but nothing earth shattering.

For me

No proper Youtube/media support in browser
15 minute and no less auto update on messages, this needs to be 1 minute or instant
In Hot Shots, when you leave for too long into the OS, you get cut off from the lobby you're in but not the online component. Odd.
I have to sit and think and go back in but mine are nitpicks but that's what we all do. I just hope some of these things get fixed in due time.

Yo guys a question.

Can I download PSP games from Media Go and transfer to Vita?

I have like 6 games I bought over PSN but I have no PS3 around here.

We didn't get charged a premium, we got charged for a game and a case. Things aren't going to be much different for people on the 22nd, so how are we beta testers? I would argue every early adopter is a beta tester.

And technically, wouldn't the beta testers be Japan? They did get the Vita earlier than the rest of the world.

Well, them, and the importers. :p

< bunch of pics>

Sigh...it looks so...beautiful. My god the Vita really is just a sexy looking piece of technology. I'm so close to caving and just buying a Vita next week, but I'm going to feel like an idiot if I become a Vita "Ambassador" 6 months from now on top of being a 3DS Ambassasor >.<

Alright guys so, I think I really want a Vita having used one extensively anytime I go into a store. I have a few questions though.

Is there a universal cheapest way to get the wifi model and the largest memory sticks available, best place to get the games cheapest?

Is there any sign that emulators will work on it via either legitimate means or by homebrew?

And lastly, of the games I am interested in, I am having trouble finding information on some of them. I am interested in uncharted, lumines, hot shots, wipeout, katamari, ninja gaiden, monkey ball, gravity rush.. I think I get what each game is aside katamari and monkey ball, are these original games or are they rehashes/ports in some way? Thanks!

Sounds like the 3DS at launch. In some way's I do agree with you, but keep in mind the issues you have are the general consequences of being an early adopter.

- The Super Stardust installation issue and customer service was clueless as to how to help
- Many times I've had issues with the browser, like on some forms hitting the "Submit" button does nothing
- I keep frequent getting PSN network errors
- A bunch of PSP games can't be downloaded to the Vita, despite being compatible
- The stupid looping dialog with the "do you want to use your current PSN ID?" when you set up the Vita
- I've had 2-3 hard crashes where my screen has gone black and I've had to reset the machine
- Multiple "network is unavailable" errors when trying to do stuff with WipEout

I love the thing, but it seems as if Sony was always keeping their eye on February 22nd as launch and those of us that got it on the 15th are just going to have to deal with issues until the "official" release. We paid a premium, I don't think we should be paying a penalty on top of it.

1. Amazon. For now, since there is no tax with most state
2. No. and I don't want to see homebrew or emulator on Vita.
3. Every game you mentioned except katamari and lumines, NGS, Monkey ball, are brand new iteration of established project... except gravity rush.

You know, on Tuesday, when Amazon had RDD available again for the FEB..I logged in, put it in my cart, clicked on RDD, and had the cursor arrow RIGHT over complete order and I still couldn't do it. Believe me I was extremely tempted at that point. What turned me around though was already having put 60 bucks down on it and I thought it will only be 1 more week. The extra week is going by faster than I thought. Plus, I'm going to take advantage of the Target B2G1 free sale for the games I want which will help a LOT.

My original budget for this launch was 500..if I'd done the FEB I'd have gone well over it. By waiting a week and taking advantage of that Target sale, I should be looking at between 400-450 for everything when it's said and done. Much easier to swallow that number than it would have been to swallow the original number I was looking at haha. All that made the decision to wait the extra week much easier.

Just about 4 days left to go for those of us still waiting!!

What PSP games have you guys been playing on your Vitas so far? I just really need an alternative to the crazy idea I have in my head to get Persona 3 on PSN right now, because it's way too over priced, but I really want a game like that. I need some alternatives.

I was just playing this earlier today and it looks GOOOOOOOOD, sorry to tell you. Games like that for cheap on PSN? I thought I saw Tails In The Sky for 19.99.

I'll second this recommendation.
Pick up Trails in the Sky to tide you over until Persona 3 goes on sale again.

Just bough awesome grips today, from Gamestop. They really make holding the Vita comfortable.

I was checking those out at work today after I bought my Vita on my break. They are comfortable then? We only have one pair, so if you say they are, I'll get them tomorrow.

I'm really, really loving this little thing. I'm a giant Uncharted fan, but I haven't played much of it, I've been playing Shinobido 2, and I like it a lot. It's pretty much Tenchu, but I'm shocked how good it looks on a handheld. Frankly it looks WAY cleaner than Tenchu Z on 360. Anyone else playing that game?

I gotta say, getting my first trophy and hearing the "ding" from it on a handheld was pretty fucking cool. If anyone is taking down PSN IDs for eventual Vita play, add Seventy5. I'd love to have more people to compare Vita trophies & play MP with.

EDIT: Has anyone played Monster Hunter Freedom Unite on Vita yet? I really want to know if the right stick controls the camera before I bite on the PSN version...already own the UMD version.

You're kidding right? Do you actually think you're having issues with your Vita that those of us who will get it on Wednesday won't experience? There isn't going to be some magical fixes available next week that Sony managed to hammer out in a week because FEB buyers have been "beta testing."

This is what happens when you buy first gen hardware. Fortunately, it seems the Vita will be very easy to update, and Sony will iron out these issues soon enough.

BTW, you were the one who elected to bay the premium to get your Vita a week earlier and get a few extra things in the box. Sounds like you have a bit of buyers remorse at this point.
