I don't mind because its a character quirk for her. And at least its explained. The wan is never explained and exists basically as fanboy bait. OH LOOK AT LAN SHE'S SUPPOSED TO BE A DOG DRAW HER AS A DOG-GIRL IN YOUR DOUJINS.

It's truly the worst forced character tick of our times. I mean, not that I have a list or anything...

I have good news, apparently Rika is the only girl with an actual pregnancy ending,
the Sena+Yozora pic is a daydream
well. that certainly changes things for the better!

Here I thought you would've known better since you learned from the mountain and had protection from Saya.
i'm more resilient than most.

Or rather, Hong Lang.

(also, same writer as Riki-Ô, so...)

You're right, no SHAFT show has ever been as truly offensive as Blood C, because SHAFT never truly hate their audience.

Shaft knows exactly what their audience wants, and is quite happy to give it to them. There's a world of difference between them and CLAMP.

Planetes.jpg

Yeah so Planetes is now my favorite Hard Science sci-fi Anime
I love attention to detail, and this show delivered
As a dude who was interested in astronomy since childhood this show was a dream come true

And then they didn't skimp on the characterization either, the Chief and assistant chief aren't the spineless ass-kissers they seem to be, characters are great but so what? You can find good characters in many anime.

What you CANT find is such loving attention to detail.

Nothing that doesn't enter the atmosphere has wings or looks even remotely aerodynamic
The Main moon colony is clearly modular, built over time, with long highways stretching out over vast amounts of nothing to other smaller bases
No sound in space, Dummy

And then It shows things you might not think about:
  • What would happen if someone was born and raised in a .16g environment?
  • What would eventually happen if too much time is spent in space outside the protective ships?
  • What would happen to all the debris from years of lax standards and old junk moving 8km/sec?
  • Once the glory of being one of the first few in space wears out, what happens to the guys doing basic grunt work in space?
Well Planetes goes there.

They even show the socio-economic ramifications of space exploration lead by first world countries exclusively and the racism and class-ism that remains in society

If we stopped using oil as our primary fuel and started using mined Helium-3, what happens to countries like Iran, Saudia Arabia and Sudan? What iF you dont have a developed space program to mine your own fuels? Would there be a crippling dependence on foreign Space-faring entities, furthering the gap in wealth and power in the world?
YEAH PLANETES GOES THERE

WATCH IT NOW
DONT BE LIKE ME AND PUT IT OFF

I was sexually aroused when they depicted the small communication lag from earth-moon communications

Then where's Moon Phase S3? :(

Really though, CLAMP do themselves no favors. They make a genre-defining masterpiece like Cardcaptor Sakura (arguably the best magic girl anime) and a fairly enjoyable fan favorite like Angelic Layer. It's like they were building us all up for a mega-troll. They probably search for Blood C topics online to laugh at all the meltdowns, kind of like GAF.

So, what you're saying is, it's at the top of a very small list? Like, you prefer it over Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honnêamise and 2001 Nights? There really aren't that many hard sci-fi anime titles around.

Blood C 1

So Saya is a student by day and demon hunter by night. Nothing out of the ordianary here.

Blood C 2

Okay, so, more of the same.
Cockblock twins won't give the poor Class Rep a break. Silent guy is silent, and is it me, or do some frames have the arms drawn similar to orangutans in relation to torso...
Anyways, pretty average.

Hmm, I don't know what to suspect, but things are perceived as even more crazy when they start average...

Well, I'm glad that this show still has a good episode left in it. I was getting kind of worried as the last five or so episodes had been extremely average. It's not just the case that this episode clearly had more money spent on it, although I'm sure that helps, but far more importantly the direction was considerably better than what we've seen for a while.

The director employed a large variety of techniques to try and interpolate the audience into the world of the show. This, largely, involved a variety of pieces of mise-en-scene that was aimed at getting the audience to feel like a certain character. In this case, that was largely Taichi and Chihaya.

In the case of Chihaya, she's being obsessive about karuta, to the point where nothing else really matters. In an early scene we see a variety of club members preparing to depart the club room, all out to fulfil various errands. The camera tracks in close to Chihaya herself as she practices karuta. We, in the audience don't receive any information about the outside world at this point, what other characters are doing, how long Chihaya has been practising etc. Then, suddenly, the camera reveals that all the other characters have completed their errands and they're all watching Chihaya practice - it's implied by their stillness that they have been watching her for sometime. Yet we, in the audience, weren't made aware of that fact because we weren't told - we were too focused on kaurta, just like Chihaya. It's a simple thing to do, but it effectively binds the audience with the character.

Later on, Taichi is playing in a karuta tournament and he's feeling a bit down. We're not explicitly told how he feels, instead we see him literally submerged underwater and we are left to draw our own conclusions about his emotional state.

The actual cinematography for this episode is pretty nice as well. There's a good variety of camera angles, quite a bit of pulling focus to allow the audience to pay attention to one particular area of the show and some really powerful tracking shots where the camera glides and smoothly and surely as a karuta players arm. There's been a variety of tracking shots like this used throughout the series, including some really spectacular ones in the Queen match where the camera tracks the progress of her hand. There's a bit of a twist of that concept here because of the link between a certain character and water.

Finally, I must commend the editing for actually making the episode feel like a real story, rather than a series of events which just happened to happen. There's a rythm to the episode which has been lost from the show for some time. One small example is where two characters are waiting for a card to be read. For one character, the shot cuts every time a syllable is read, so that we see the character flicking around in frustration waiting for a certain card to be read. Yet when we focus on the other player in the match the camera lingers because he's isn't impatient or frustrated. It's an effective technique.

Maybe you could say there was a lot of visual storytelling in this episode. You know, like there should be.

Oh, did I mention there was actually some lighting in this episode? It's nice to see, er, small details like that picked up on again.

The recently published site of STUDIO CHIZU (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=35012103&postcount=18967) now has its own official blog:

おおかみこどもの雨と雪 公式ブログ
http://www.studio-chizu.jp/blog/ookamikodomo/

I hope it includes juicy bits of internal information about the issues of producing such a film, as the ones from the two previous Mr. Hosoda's movies did (http://www.kadokawa.co.jp/blog/tokikake/ and http://s-wars.jp/blog/index.html), very recommended to check.

The Dirty Pair have a pet robot, and a cat bear thing.

I don't know how much of a pet Mughi is. Considering his ability to operate and fix specalised machienry, play chess, pilot spaceships and sometimes save the day I'd say he's more like a crew mate that just happens to be a giant cat thing.

Wtf, c'mon. Okabe's engrish is just as bad as the customs guy.

Can't they ever find someone who actually speaks english for americans? Only show I remember where there was an actual english VA was the background technical gibberish in Zegapain.

Oh well
This works too, given that I have some of the best taste (if not the best) in everything among people in this thread -- being good to me is quite an achievement and should be taken as a highly recommended work.

there was the fairly racist western caricature bad guy in one of the Robot Carnival shorts who spoke "good" english and don't forget this recent example

Blood C 4

Minor bug: Stop that singing! Also, the cafe guy comes off to me as a shady mofo that may or may not drug Saya's marshmallows. Guess I've watched too many animes over the years.
One moore thing! Worst. Protector...EVER.

Hmm, only crime this show has done so far is bore the hell out of me.

Don't worry you're nearly clear of all the formulaic episodes, before it starts to "entertain".
