GAF Plays: Mass Effect series (unmarked spoilers)

Okay I suck at combat or I'm not it that used to it yet. Do I still get experience even if I'm not involved in the killing of the enemies? Like if I get my squad to kill them and stuff.

Yes. You are considered in control of your squad, so you gain EXP for anything any of them do.

So I'm close to the end of ME1 and I've just realized something...

How come Benezia and Saren never saw the "organic" reaper inside the ship? They were both inside the metallic shell and should have seen who was piloting it? Benezia simply mention that the ship uses some kind of mind control. The reaper was hidden in the closet of the ship?

God damn, replaying ME 2 is reminding me of how awful and goofy the writing and delivery is in some instances. That cringe-worthy Ashley reunion. Shit. I wanted someone to shoot me in the face.

I think the Reapers are integrated into the ships, its not like a crab-shell arrangement.

Well if you take into account the size of the reaper human baby I'm not sure it makes sense. people were saying the crab-shell-hand-thing was the ship and the reaper was inside. The reaper is also supposed to look like the race it used the DNA from too, no? That's why the human reaper baby looked like the terminator robot. How something that big integrated in the ship and no one saw it. It's implied both Benezia and Saren spent a lot of time on the ship.

I think we'll get a better understanding of how it works in ME3.

I think that such a weak point would not be easily seen or accessible by anybody.

Or simply that they were making up stuff as they went along. The fact that the protheans appearance also changed is pretty telling.

The Prothean appearance didn't change, they just tried to make it purposefully vague so that they could make an absolute design later on when needed.

There's a picture of them in the ME2 codex and it looks nothing like how they look in ME3. That's more than being vague. I can agree that the statue thing on Ilos is vague but come on now.

Oh god, I forgot how horrible scanning planets is in ME2. There's gotta be a pc mod to make this much more efficient.

You get an upgrade from Miranda which makes it faster to move the scanner.

Just be glad you're playing on PC, i heard its much worse on consoles.

yeah, I know of the upgrade. My previous playthroughs were on console, so I'm aware of how terrible it is on there too :p

Just was curious if there were ini mods or something to just it less of a time waster.

Have you forgotten the derelict reaper? There is no mush inside it. There is probably a central brain, but I think that's it. Not some "driver" made out of a prothean smack down in the middle.

You can turn down Wrex as well.

Worse playthrough ever. There were empty chairs everywhere and it was just not fun.

Replaying ME1 for the first time since 07 and having played ME2 for the 3rd time when it came out on PS3 i have to say i enjoy the story/writing a lot more in ME1, still hate the mako, still dislike some of the RPG elements that felt thrown together (which seem better in ME3)

but goddamnit i am loving ME1 to the point where i can't believe i never came back to it.

Well I'm playing ME1 right now and Saren is in some sort of cockpit room when he's talking with Benezia inside Sovereign. The derelict reaper is also supposed to be really old and Cerberus also had been messing with it for a while. They could simply have taken out the important bit for research, no?

The central brain doesn't fit with the baby human reaper thing either.

Moreover they aren't made from protheans goo, EDI explains that the prothean-reaper hybrid failed.

This is why I'm going to save Jack's Loyality mission for last on this playthrough. By that time I should have a maxed out Paragon meter.

Does it literally need to be maxed to regain Miranda's loyalty? I'm choosing almost every Paragon option, and I have the talent but I'm not even half way through yet. I'm worried that I'll continue playing and not get high enough and not be able to regain her loyalty which will negate the entire reason I decided to replay the game which was to get the perfect ending, but keep the same decisions I made.

I'm hearing a few things that have me a bit confused. Is there a recommended order for the loyalty missions in ME2? So far I've only done Zaeeds.

It's not too crazy to assume they never saw it. Both of them were heavily indoctrinated. Sovereign could have easily sealed that section shut and implanted a suggestion in their brains to keep them away from it.

The codex image is just an image of the Protheans as the galactic community knows them. Just because they have art that depicts them one way doesn't mean it's exactly how they looked. Human art doesn't perfectly emulate the human form all the time. Last time I checked I don't know anyone who looks like a Salvador Dali painting.

Do Miranda and Jack's ASAP. Otherwise, no.

No, do one early in the game and do the other later in the game. Same with Legion and Tali.

So you can respond with all dialogue options available.

There is no order, but these pairs I have above are linked in the way the loyalty plays out after them. So to be able to respond with all of the dialogue available, one of them should be late in the game, or they both can be. You just want to make sure your paragon or renegade is fairly high.

That cringe-worthy Ashley reunion. Shit. I wanted someone to shoot me in the face.

During the whole conversation I wanted an option to shout: "Stop reprimanding me on not giving you call! I was dead for two years bitch, ffs!"

Unfortunately, the game never gave me that option :(

Oh god, I forgot how horrible scanning planets is in ME2. There's gotta be a pc mod to make this much more efficient.

I you play it on PC, you can edit config file and quicken the scanning cursor. It makes the scanning much less frustrating.
Or you can simply edit your save file and give yourself lots of minerals ;).

Right, and your paragon/renegade is more likely to be high earlier in the game than later. I think I explained it earlier in this thread.

EDIT: Here it is.

The intro to ME2 is fucking awesome.

I mean, I hate the whole you died and Cerberus rebuilt you shit, but the ship section? Holyyyy shit. So good.

Edit: The DLC isn't available to buy via Steam?

Again, the meter means NOTHING in this game.

Once again: THE METERS MEAN NOTHING.

All the paragon/renegade options are based on a ratio of your current points divided by the total possible points on that side you could have obtained where you are.

Thus, in many ways, waiting until the very end of the game can be counter-productive, as you will be weighted against all conceivable opportunities for paragon points in the entire game, instead of only a smaller portion of the game.

So, conceivably, if you're presented with that Miranda choice at the VERY beginning of the game, after only a single choice, and you choose paragon, the game's logic would light up the paragon option, because you're at a 100 percent ratio.

That mechanic is so retarded. I like to play a renegade character, but I don't like choosing the choices where I'm being a dick for some ungodly reason.

Like that Salarian at the start of Thane's recruitment mission.

Salarian Worker : "Please...i'm dying *cough* help me, can't breath."
*Shepard ignores him and let him die slowly and painfully*
Salarian Worker : "Please...there are others on the top floors...save them...please."
Shepard : "I don't care. They're on their own now."
*Shepard leaves the salarian without looking back*
Salarian Worker : "Please..." *Dies*

I always hate that part when i play renegade. Maybe i should just save him next time , its not like ONE paragon option will screw my game.

I always save him, even as a Renegade. I just did five minutes ago, in fact.

Thane's mission is still so awesome. Music, tension, all great.

They need to add a radio to bring back the music in the Normandy of ME3. No music sucked in ME2. And they even teased us with the ME1 Normandy music in the opening.

Isn't Shepard's alarm clock or something in his room on the Normandy in ME2 a radio? I'm pretty sure I played some of the game's music on that...

I always roleplay, as in I never take the renegade option just because it is the renegade option. Sure, I get some nasty paragon points now and then, but this is after all MY renegade Shepard. Not Bioware's.

Yeah, I really like that mission. The premise is interesting, and Nassana was a nice homage to Mass Effect, naturally having become completely paranoid and irrational.

I didn't like the beginning of Mass Effect 2. I really would have preferred creating a Shephard in the first game and then carrying him through the entirety of the series.

I envisioned a low-level, possibly underpowered Shephard growing to become an awesomely kick-ass behemoth in the series' finale. But I guess you have to hit the reset button after each title.

If you import in ME3, you start off at the level you finished ME2 at.

So they kind of did it, but with a mulligan between ME1 and ME2.
