I don't want to be forced to used shit weapons for the sake of "diversity." Want me to drop the BR/DMR? Then make the other non-power weapons worth the effort. In Reach, most of them are not worth the effort, simple as that.
To me, that's what makes Halo, Halo. Give everyone a DMR/BR, and let's play a 15 minute match where we fight over power weapons, power ups, position on the map and some objectives too. That's what I play Halo for. That and the absolutely joy that comes with out BR'ing someone, getting sick headshots and multikills. Killing a team and running a flag through a tough route and just barely capturing the flag. So satisfying.
I do like the weapons in the Halo sandbox. They're for the most part, cool and fun to use. But I think a problem Bungie has always had is custom fitting weapons/loadouts/equipment to a map. It just boggles my mind sometimes seeing just such dumb shit on maps.

Halo CE was much better about this. Funny that it was the only one that couldn't do online matchmaking when it got multiplayer the most right in terms of useful variety of weapons, balance, weapons on map placement and ladders. Fuck lifts. The best thing about Halo CE was risk/reward. Want a power weapon or higher vantage point? Take a risk to get it or climb a ladder leaving you vulnerable. Players earned shit in Halo CE. No one earns dick in Reach, it's just all handed to people in the loadout screen then we all play some complicated paper, rock, jetpack game of bullshit.
Oh and the best part is that maps weren't even made thinking about how jetpacks would be utilized. Nice fucking soft killzones way too late.
Fuck I'm rambling but honestly there is just so much wrong with Reach I could write an essay.
Like I said, most of them aren't worth picking up in Reach. The Needler is situational but actually pretty decent. It's come along way since the Halo 1/2 Needler. The Plasma Pistol's EMP effect makes in worth picking up in BTB and just pulsing it strips shields ridiculously fast. I can't think of anything else off the top of my head but that seems about it really. But the needler!
And that's why I'm surprised you don't play MLG more. Or more people other than you. I feel like there's no real bullshit with the maps, weapons and powerups in the MLG maps and gametypes. I mean, in this current version the pistol being so powerful is definitely the worst part about it. I understand the dislike for evade even though I'm sorta ok with it. You need to be like Ryanoob to bring out the imbalance. And while I complain about the pistol often, there are like 2 on each map. They do respawn quite often but it could be worse.
This. It's not that I don't like the gametypes it's the playerbase is too serious and I end up getting wrecked by people who play constantly.

This.
I really hope Halo 4 nails it so that we don't have to have an MLG playlist that plays vastly different than the rest of the game. I like the current no sprint MLG settings and if it were spread to the rest of the game I'd be stoked because I have no interest in playing the types of players in the MLG playlist.

Over a dozen former Pandemic developers are now employed at 343 Industries working on Halo 4 and Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary.[7]
MLG won't ever be vanilla because they change settings for the sake of changing them in every game they touch (not just Halo). It won't matter how fast Halo 4 is, they'll still set it to 110% speed. Otherwise their community will think they haven't tweaked it enough.
The last time they actually played anything that resembled vanilla Halo was Halo 2. Since then, they've diverged into a distinctly different and limited weapon and rule set.
I think it was because Halo 2 multiplayer was amazing![]()
That's such a bummer. Halo 4 needs some serious matchmaking and ranks man. Reach dropped the ball so hard in that department. I just don't understand. I would also like to see some challenges that point players into the MLG playlist. Win 5 games of MLG: 5,000 credits or some shit.

I never knew that Pandemic made Battlefront. Mind blown. From the Pandemic Wiki page.
Jeez so many. I don't know how people play normal team slayer. I played those 2 games with you guys tonight and that was all I could take. Just mindless bullshit on a bad map against players we clearly outclassed. It doesn't help that there are 22 different playlists not including firefight which limits the crappy matchmaking even more, so skill matching is all the more messed up.

It's the one that always makes me happy. But the needler!
I still kind of hate bungie for never buffing the plasma repeater in reach, that thing is terrible, in fact all human weapons are much better at most roles then the covenant counter parts, bar maybe the plasma pistol with it's overcharge.
You mean returning it to it's beta stage, where it was a worthwhile weapon to use? Between that and the neutering of the Focus Rifle, those two new weapons became pretty much useless in anything outside of Elite gametypes (where the damnable Evade AA should have stayed).I still kind of hate bungie for never buffing the plasma repeater in reach, that thing is terrible, in fact all human weapons are much better at most roles then the covenant counter parts, bar maybe the plasma pistol with it's overcharge.
In halo CE multi a plasma weapon would hamper your turning while being hit by it, no other halo ever added that effect back in.

However, the Plasma Pistol is a beast in Reach. I love it.
I felt like as great as the 1-50 was for skill matching (and people actually cared about their rank so played harder), the number of second accounts killed it for me. Nothing was more frustrating playing against people who clearly are using a second account (but were still better than you) beating you at a low level.

I'd rather have a 1-50 system with boosters than Reach's 'ranks'.
There might as well be a note stuck to all the nerfed weapons that reads "remember the beta?" with a trollface at the end of it. :-\It was the Halo 3 Beta Spiker and Carbine all over again. RIP Beta Spiker.
I do love the PP in Reach, and am glad it was returned to its Halo 1 power. It's really great in FF/Campaign in particular.

Imagine the potential behind this if they have designed a completely new mode which is a spiritual successor to invasion, but is completely new and independant of anything we've seen in the Halo universe before. It'd be a general war mode, with players being able to choose different classes within a faction.

Different maps would pit different factions against eachother, they'd all have different abilities n' shit. It'd be loads of fun and definitely bring an absolute plethora of freshness to the series. I mean fuck it, add weapon upgrades and level progression to this mode for all I care. It'd be fun, as long as it remains independant from the Halo we already love and know, I'd be fine with it.
343i did state they are making drastic changes to multiplayer, maybe this is it?
Maybe I was wrong to doubt them, maybe they truly understand that video games aren't simply just a way of making money, but that they're also our friends.
I'd like it to be a 'mode'. I don't want the entirety of Halo following that direction.
I know what I'm asking for is unrealistic, as ultimately the game would be sent in two different directions, and I doubt 343i has the resources to do so. I still think a 16vs16 mode for BTB is both manageable and desirable though.
"Some"? There are maybe two maps may fit that bill, and Boneyard and Spire are horrible maps for anything.I felt that some of the Reach maps were so sparse that they themselves would have been more suitable for 32 players. Notably the Invasion maps.
Truthfully I think that had more to do with map design than size, as Boneyard didn't even try to properly use the space it offered. That said, I agree the they should up the player count by at least a little bit.I felt that some of the Reach maps were so sparse that they themselves would have been more suitable for 32 players. Notably the Invasion maps.
If they don't put 4-player split screen back into it, they won't have my money.
Play other games?By the way guys, as Halo fans. What are we going to do if this game flops both critically and commercially?
