GAF Plays: Mass Effect series (unmarked spoilers)

PR campaign was awful. "Shepard is dead!". Ugh.
Well, he was dead for two years in ME timeline!
Or a minute or two of gameplay time - between the intro sequence and the waking up sequence
And it had little to no impact on the overall story.

The suicide mission works, it's just a vast majority of gamers are going to want to do it perfectly.

But that's the case. You only see the real suicide mission if you deliberately decide not to gain your crew member's loyalty, not to upgrade your ship or just suck at knowing what each of your teammates is good at (and even then, the game gives you description of each of your party member's abilities and characteristics, so it doesn't even rely on your knowledge about your party). It shouldn't be like that.

Just pumped 4 days straight into mass effect series and i only see this thread right now just before im about to get the reaper iff. Funny thing is as a human soldier never visited local system(earth, etc) in the 2 games. And i must hear the probe Uranus joke.
I wanted a mass effect 3 save file where Wrex is alive and i killed of ashley hated that bitch when she shoot wrex my very first me1 playthrough. And everybody must survive in mass effect 2 dont know how big of a role they will playy in me3.

So having finally finished me2 im ready for me3! At a low price. The coop is godlike though, i love it.

So i have read the first page a bit but i totally forgot which choices i made :lol

And what mission was the greybox? And quarians going to war?

Also, suicide mission is a perfect example of choicing done right imo. Miranda and samara died.

I'm planning to get Legion really early, so i can take him on a bunch of loyalty missions.
The only drawback is getting you're whole crew killed right? i'm not missing anything else?

Yeah, I think the only downside is the crew. God, that Yeoman Chambers death scene is brutal. Awful.

Edit: I have a similar plan. Morinth/Legion playthrough, as soon as possible. Should be... original.

I didn't play ME1 until autumn 2009, and because of the PR I expected Shepard to die by the end of the game. Because of this Shepard still being alive after the tentacle crashed into the council tower really suprised me.

I also think they should have made the suicide mission a bit more deadly. Only Jacob died on my first playthrough because I sent him into the vent. They should have implemented more choices where no mather which option you go with some of your crew members survive.

Morinth and Legion were the only people that survived during my renegade playthrough. I really hope Bioware gives us the option of giving the Geth the position as galactic overlords in ME3.

If you're playing on PC you can hack the game so it gives you all recruit missions (including the one with Legion) early without the consequences. It requires playing with gibbed's save editor a bit and may glitch the game in some cases (IIRC during the Horizon mission none of the party members that shouldn't be available yet have any dialouges recorded), but it is really worth it. It's amazing how many unused dialogues Legion and other members have.

Im playing again ME2 for my ultimate save, doing all that I can possibly do as a paragon in the game.

Yesterday night I got to the Mordin loyalty mission again. Even if the main story of ME2 is not that good, this playtrhough is reminding me how good most of the characters where.
Mordin's explanations about his part in the Xenophage are amazing (for him, doing the xenophage was right, but its not something that makes him sleep well), and even if being total paragon that time I wanted to side with what Mordin said (that was renegade and thats one of the objections I have with the paragon renegade shit, as I would prefer more something like the Witcher).
And then you hear some of the dialogs in tuchanka, specially the one with krogan saying that he wanted to be more time with his thought to be son.
So then you rethink the situation. Yes the xenophage probably saved the galaxy from a huge unstoppable war, were billions of people would have died, but then you hear the normal accounts of some Krogan... you could say that the xenophage also killed millions of new borns, making a really harsh time fro the krogans.
But then again... the majority of the Krogan just want war, its in their blood. Could they be capable of leaving in harmony with other races by their own means.

That part was really good.

Also the war/not war part in Tali's loyalti mission.

I'm on 360 :(
But i'll take a dead crew then, really curious what legion has to say during all those missions

Done wrong you mean. Virmire is a good example of choice,

It figures that social.bioware.com would be down when I finally decide to get around to downloading some of the texture mods in the op.

Just noticing those mods in the op as well, so I'll be downloading the no red veins asap.

Agreed, Suicide mission was a mess of making sure a bunch of other things had been completed as well and making sure folks were "loyal". Virmire was excellent, in the heat of the moment, and just a decision based on whoever you liked, but also a tough choice knowing you would indeed lose someone.

For some reason, Mass Effect 2 will not automatically connect to EA anymore (last time a played months ago this wasn't a problem). I have to reenter my username and password each time I play, which is a huge pain in the ass because I use keypass generated long complicated passwords and you can't copy and paste into the fields! Is there anything I can do?

Same here actually, quite annoying, so I guess it's a common thing we're missing.

Actually, now I can't connect at all. The connection is timing out.

Edit: nevermind. I'm able to log in now but I still need to reenter my username and password.

Its common, at least since a month ago. When I started to play again ME2. Yeah, is shit.

Oh man, Virmire too. And really now, suicide mission was one of the better parts in Mass Effect. There hardly were any big undertakings happening at all. Virmire was better.

What the fuck, i just discovered that there's a second shop on Tuchanka next to the guy fixing his Tomka, can't believe i missed that in my other playtroughs.

Was just there last night. Its pretty easy to miss the panel, as the guy never says he has a store.
Also you need to ebat Grunts loyalty mission before using the store so you can get the disscounts. You can save 60 thousand credits like this when you buy all the things at the end.

I just played the N7: Lost Operative mission...I wonder if assignments from ME2 import over. I recovered the data for myself, my Shep doesn't trust Cerberus nor the Alliance.

Is she loyal? And is she in the vent? Shouldn't die otherwise.

I think she can die if you let her "hold the line" with a generally weak crew. I always take her with me in the final battle to make sure they doesn't die.

edit: Woops, didn't mean to double post.

Tali in the vent, Samara on the biotic shield and Garrus as leader of the other squad holding the line or whatever should be a 100% success provided everybody is loyal.

She will die if you chose a poor leader for the second team. Basically, if you chose a poor leader for the second team, they are not able to protect the one hacking the door properly and the door will not close. The one hacking the console then gets shot in the face.

If you choose a poor hacker instead, you lose one of the character from the first team.

Random question -- does anyone know if the standard digital edition of ME2 from Gamersgate UK comes with a Cerberus Network code? My Cerberus Network code from my physical copy is tied to a different EA account that I no longer use, and I want to reinstall ME2 for the DLC, so I figured if I could get a digital version with Cerberus Network access cheaply then it would save a lot of effort messing around with accounts.

Alternatively, has anyone seen a digital copy of ME2 including Cerberus Network for cheap elsewhere?

Anyone? Maybe I should just shell out to download the Cerberus Network for my other account, but the pricing is pretty ridiculous.

Anyone got any tips on how to keep; Zaeed, Legion, Morinth, Mordin, Thane and Jack alive and everyone else dead? Trying to get this specific group for my renegade playthrough, can't really figure it out. They are the only ones Loyal. And I didn't pick up Kasumi and Grunt is still locked up!

Get them all loyal.

Take Zaeed with you on the final boss.
Don't take Legion or Mordin with you during the Biotic Fun Ride.
Morinth is your Biotic Special Person.
Upgrade weapons and armor for both Thane and Jack.
