Please pardon my hit an run post in this thread, but I don't really want to read 2000 posts worth of stuff and I'm really not up on Apple rumors.

I don't own any Apple products, but I'm gonna. I'm out of contract as of last month, and I just got a bonus, so that means I can get an iPhone4S. What are the odds they will announce a 5 at this thing? If they do, any clue or best guesses of what the suspected release window might be?

absolutely Zero chance the iPhone 5 will be announced here. The iPhone gets its own event, usually in the summer. I expect the 5 to come out in june/july.

I've also just finished my 2 year contract with my iPhone 3GS and I'm going to wait until after tomorrow to pick up a iPhone4s because of the slimmest chance of announce. But I really doubt it.

why not just wait a few months for the 5? Its not like theres really any negatives about being out of contract, just means you have more options when the 5 comes out.

wait unless your phone is broken. you're going to be in a multi-year contract, so you mine as well have 2 years with a better phone.

The iPhone 5 may come out this fall which would mean a longer wait. If they do not announce iOS6 by mid May I think it's a safe bet to assume the iPhone 5 will not come out till the fall.

If the announcement for the 5 is in a couple months, I think I can tough it out. My wife was hard on cell phones and used her upgrades, and mine. I haven't actually had a new cell phone for about 7 years now. I've waited this long, I can wait a bit more.

You could have 7 months of hotness before it's usurped by the new hotness, or 7 months of waiting and then get the new hotness. How wealthy do you feel?

I'm consistently a broke mother fucker. It's my M.O.

Damn, I think I'm gonna get one of these. Will be my first apple device. With the LTE what kind of plans do you think they will have? I want something unlimited:/

No chance. They will offer the same data plans as they do on cell phones. So around:

$30 for 2GB
$50 for 5GB
$80 for 10GB

I don't see myself ever buying an iPad with mobile network - just give me the base WiFi for $499.

and? he can buy a phone now and in 5 months wish he had waited, as he'll be stuck with a 4S for at least 12 more months at that point, or chill with the phone he has until August or so and be supremely satisfied.

Easy call for me...but if he dislikes the phone he has now, I can understand going for the upgrade immediately. I just know I wouldn't.

But Hulu, Netflix, HBO Go and all those fancy channels/apps will do NOTHING outside USA/Britain, such a shame. I think I'm skipping Apple TV3, or if it's the same price I could give my parents my Apple TV2 and buy the TV3, but it's unnecessary. All I use it for is for AirPlay.

I don't have an Apple TV, but can it access the normal Hulu streams? Or do you have to be a member of Hulu+ to view Hulu content on Apple TV?

I thought the iPad 2's slimmer form factor was huge in itself, and certainly being faster was great.

But yes, iPad 3 (or HD)'s 2048x1536 screen alone will be f'ing amazing to read on. LTE and a better camera will make it even more awesome.

Same here. Retina display alone is a big enough upgrade for me. iBooks, webbrowsing, and reading are going to be glorious.

I just know that Hulu doesn't work in Scandinavia and that's it. :)

Hulu doesn't allow anything outside of regular computers to access their free content.

I use AirPlay mirroring and zoom to watch Hulu on my Apple TV. It works alright for the time being, annoying to have to deal with, but it works!

There's not going to be any live streams right?

Cause if so I might skip my 50 min class for me3 and this to see and the chance of preorders going up right after.

No, but places like Engadget usually post pics live with commentary.

Speaking of...I just noticed they have their liveblog link available now. Added to OP.

Haha I remembered!

It's to:
1.) Allow you to manually delete photos from iCloud
2.) Give you the option to auto-delete pics from the camera roll once they're synced to iCloud

All Software side, I suppose.

I'm pretty sure I read that they're adding this to 5.1. So you may be in luck

Played and completed the games I wanted, disappointed with the rest. I sold it for more than I paid so I have no regrets. If there is a price drop or something killer in the next year I may buy another one but I doubt it. I've fallen out of playing portable gaming and I had hoped this would revitalise it a little bit. It didn't.

I would be miserable sitting around with outdated technology. Buy the 4S now and then sell it when the 5 comes out. If he's on AT&T you get a partial upgrade after six months which makes the 5 only $450. He could easily sell his 4S for $300 and only be out of pocket $150 for the new hotness.

Damn those prices are highway robbery.

Just sold my TouchPad for $200. I'm ready :)

I'm still debating between following this thread or going on a blackout until I can watch the keynote in its entirety.Ideally I'd love to watch the keynote which they usually post at night without hearing any news 1st, but don't think I'll have the self control. And suggestions?

I'm a little concerned that the event may not be as watchable with Tim Cook at the helm. I mean, I really like the guy, but is he ever dry to watch. Obviously, the announcement events aren't meant to be viewed liked movies and entertainment, but Steve always made them a bit like that.

I know most of it will be others presenting, but a part of me will always miss those old ones.

miss ya, Steve!

Tim Cook won't introduce it, I bet. We've already had a number of events without Steve or where he was just the MC.

I would say this marks the return of Jon Rubinstein, but he still needs to wreck Amazon (where he sits on the board) before Apple will let him back.

Schiller is the new pitchman. I don't like him that much, unfortunately. I don't doubt his abilities at his job, but he doesn't exactly rouse excitement or seem to ooze charisma.

Everyone paying attention knows that Ive should be that guy in Steve's absence. It's just that he apparently doesn't want it. I think Ive could actually out-Jobs Steve on the presentation department and heavy rhetoric.

Ive can't talk software, or even non-design hardware features.

Ive isn't the right fit, IMO. Schiller is just keeping the seat warm while they groom Forstall. He's going to be the guy longterm, book it.

But neither can Schiller! Anyone can stand in front of the audience and talk about how awesome new products are. Ive's wouldn't be the hard-sell guy, though...so that may be why they keep him hidden.

Forstall isn't the right guy, either. Pretty sure Cue isn't, either.

Honestly I like the way Cook presents on stage. He's more dry than Steve, sure...but he's confident and genuine.

Schiller and Forstall actually are involved with things like UI and software design. They know the software inside out because they're part of the design process and make design decisions. Ive has one singular focus, hardware design. These events are like 10% showing off hardware design, and 90% software demos. Cook can't demo a product.

Yep. I think I'm going to wait. Just get a pay as you go sim for now and then when iPhone 5 drops I'll be locked into that cycle rather the the *.s cycle.

Exactly. Any one of these guys can talk about aluminum unibodys, but you wouldn't ask Ive to discuss new features in iOS.

Agreed, but it doesn't change the fact that Forstall and Schiller don't have the right personalities to be the pitchmen for the biggest tech company in the world. They need someone who isn't acting on stage. Schiller acts when he presents. Forstall acts when he presents. Cook appears genuine. I suspect Ive would be genuine.

What was great about Steve is that he being a pitchman and a charismatic guy is who he was. They need to find a guy who can at least talk the talk on stage. I just think Ive could be that guy.

Edit: I think you guys are overstating the importance of having a guy involved with a particular aspect of the product be the presenter. Steve could demo iOS without being the guy in charge of running it day to day. Anyone can. You or I could. It's about being a face to the public, not being the guy behind the curtain making it all work. Steve was lucky enough to be both. At the end of the day they need a genuine showman on the stage to capture people's imaginations again.

I don't think they need that. I think they are happy with Apple being a team-run company now, and they want to let the world know that. Before, everyone was saying Apple was doomed without Steve; they've done a good job of highlighting that there are capable guys in each department, and they will share the spotlight. After Steve's Apple, it's not Cook's Apple or Ive's Apple, but an Apple run by a team of Cook, Forstall, Schiller, Cue, Ive, Craig F, etc. each who gets the spotlight when it's their specialty.

They've got to award recognition to the guys for the stuff they do anyway. Forstall and Cue might not be happy if they spent a lot of hours on a feature or media deal, only to have the design dude revealing it to the world and forgetting to highlight something. Ive would probably feel the same if it was Schiller or Forstall talking about the intricacies of some hardware design.
