Agreed, but it doesn't change the fact that Forstall and Schiller don't have the right personalities to be the pitchmen for the biggesttechcompany in the world. They need someone who isn't acting on stage. Schiller acts when he presents. Forstall acts when he presents. Cook appears genuine. I suspect Ive would be genuine.
What was great about Steve is that he being a pitchman and a charismatic guy is who he was. They need to find a guy who can at least talk the talk on stage. I just think Ive could be that guy.
Edit: I think you guys are overstating the importance of having a guy involved with a particular aspect of the product be the presenter. Steve could demo iOS without being the guy in charge of running it day to day. Anyone can. You or I could. It's about being a face to the public, not being the guy behind the curtain making it all work. Steve was lucky enough to be both. At the end of the day they need a genuine showman on the stage to capture people's imaginations again.
Yeah, Ive oozes charisma, just like Jobs did. Just watch any of his hardware videos, or even when he spoke about Jobs at the Apple campus memorial. His speech was the only one listening to IMO, there's a visceral intensity and passion to the way he speaks that's lacking in any other public figure I've seen at Apple. Only Scott Forstall comes close, but there's still a wide gap. Schiller? Zero charisma on stage.
Which begs the question of what Jonathan Ive has been doing for the past 2 years or so. The last redesigned hardware from Apple was the iPad 2, which I'm assuming was nailed down design wise by the end of 2009 or so. And not like that was a complex project from a HW to begin with.. basically just a different back cover. The 4S was externally identical to the 4. Mac hardware hasn't been touched in years. Neither have the iPods. The iPad 3 will be almost identical to the 2. So what the hell has Ive been doing everyday for the past 2+ years? Hopefully we see the fruits of his labour soon in the form of redesigned Mac hardware, but honestly it seems the guy must not have had alot on his plate for the past while. Gone are the days of quirky, dramatic redesigns. From here on external changes will be extremely incremental. I wonder if he'll be motivated to move on. I hope not.
