An A5 on steroids is completely fine with me, especially if it has a new GPU. The iPad still has one of the best mobile GPUs on the market. It's a guarantee this thing won't be sluggish. I can't see how any rational person would forgo it randomly because its not quad core. If it has good performance, who gives a shit? What the hell do you do on an iPad that requires a quad core? Answer: Nothing. It will run like oiled butter in real world use.

iOS and OS X are pretty multicore capable operating systems, and GCD and OpenCL are getting more popular by the day.

This is how I see it:

More RAM would mean I could open more tabs in Safari, and possibly have more apps multitasking.

Quad-core might help a little with multitasking... but I can only see it making GIF threads run slightly smoother.

I kept my 64gb ipad1 around. computing aside; still makes as a great backup games + video only device. I mean if I sell it; I won't get a lot of value proposition back (to me); might as well just keep and use it.

I will also keep my ipad 2 when I get my 3/HD.

Not really. iPad gets to skip at least one gen of development because iPhone is the testbed for iOS. I think iPad 3 is going to be very close in maturity to what iPhone 4s is.

Seriously, I care more about the ram than an A6. Look at the iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4th gen, they both have A4's but the touch has half the ram and it shows, my god does it show.

I just want 1gig of ram, quad core would be icing but I won't cry if it's an enhanced A5.

If Apple chooses to release less powerful hardware for comparable prices, then the battery life must be through the roof to compensate. I would really love another 5 hours.

I said the same thing until I was able to sell my 64GB iPad 2 wifi for $600. I couldn't get anywhere near that value a year from now. I was going to hold out until iPad 4, but with that deal...too good to pass up.

It honestly might be cheaper to upgrade on a yearly basis with iPad than every two years just due to the resale value.

No kidding. The smartphone/tablet market is changing so fast and innovating so quickly that 'future proofing' is pretty idiotic and untenable. How would today's mobile quad core compare to one 3 years from now? It will be utterly anemic in comparison, considering apps at that time will be optimized for a much newer architecture. The performance is increasing so fast. Which is why demanding a quadcore today for 'future-proofing' is pretty much ridiculous.

Kind of agree. Very surprised if the GPU at least isn't either a quad core, or a major jump up per core to support the res increase...otherwise I think the iPad after this might well go down as the right balance. More on the GPU side, more cores, wouldn't go unused in the way some thing a quad core CPU might.

We'll see what the GPU is like tomorrow I guess.
