honestly I don;t mind a dual core as its a more efficient design and all Apps including the iOS will run on a newer dual core processor. It will definitely be at least 1.5x faster than the processor on iPad 2 combined with the fact that the GPU will be faster with more ram.

Everybody is selling their stuff without knowing what the new hardware is like?

What is this

Yep. That's fine with me.

we all knew apple doesnt go all the way for the max, if you take out iPhone 4 out of the equation, all their recent phones and iPads were modestly high upgrades and not ground breaking upgrades

Personally would prefer the quad-core but don't think I want to wait another year to get it in an iPad. The leap from iPad 1 to iPad 3 will be significant enough regardless.

An A5 on steroids is completely fine with me, especially if it has a new GPU. The iPad still has one of the best mobile GPUs on the market. It's a guarantee this thing won't be sluggish. I can't see how any rational person would forgo it randomly because its not quad core. If it has good performance, who gives a shit? What the hell do you do on an iPad that requires a quad core? Answer: Nothing. It will run like oiled butter in real world use.

I don't care if it's an enhanced dual core or quad or whatever.

All I need is a retina display on this thing and the power to back it up. If it's faster than the iPad 2 all while pushing the retina display and keeping the same battery life...I'm totally fine with that. Retina is going to make a world of difference in pretty much everything I do with iPad.

Exactly how I feel. Just want the display.

Realistically, what difference will it actually make to your day to day use?

I probably overreacted, but I need to see benchmarks. It seems like quad core would definitely be beneficial with the super high resolution the thing will be running at and also make better apps be possible. Maybe the faster dual core, increased ram, and better gpu will be good enough though.

I think more RAM would be more useful than a quad core...

This is how I see it:

More RAM would mean I could open more tabs in Safari, and possibly have more apps multitasking.

Quad-core might help a little with multitasking... but I can only see it making GIF threads run slightly smoother.

Amirite?

Please name one real world reason that a dual core chip would be insufficient compared to a quad core.

Not a "real world" reason per se, but it would be nice future proofing to have a more powerful processor available for when it can be applied to tasks that can take advantage of it.

I kept my 64gb ipad1 around. computing aside; still makes as a great backup games + video only device. I mean if I sell it; I won't get a lot of value proposition back (to me); might as well just keep and use it.

I will also keep my ipad 2 when I get my 3/HD.

That probably is the case here.

iPad 1 -- useful, but sluggish and janky, very first gen

iPad 2 -- much smoother and more stable, but significant room for improvement with the screen

iPad 3 -- retina, appropriate cpu/gpu/ram bump to support the resolution increase.

iPad 3's likely to be a fantastic, mature product, much like the iPhone 4.

Exactly. It will be a fantastic device.

I'm slightly concerned it might be more like...

iPad 1 -- useful, but sluggish and janky, very first gen

iPad 2 -- much smoother and more stable, but significant room for improvement with the screen

iPad 3 -- retina, but struggles occasionally with the massive res requirements... sluggish and janky in places

iPad 4 -- much smoother and more stable...

by that rational. I think 4 is actually where itd be at.

btw my ipad 2 serves me perfectly and while I want a 3; I don't think I need it. The keyboard I got for the ipad was probably a better buy than any spec/retina upgrade at xxxx dollars.

Seriously, I care more about the ram than an A6. Look at the iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4th gen, they both have A4's but the touch has half the ram and it shows, my god does it show.

I just want 1gig of ram, quad core would be icing but I won't cry if it's an enhanced A5.

Think how much your iPad 2 will have devalued by the time you decide to upgrade to the next model. Do it now, cut your losses. Then do it every year.

If Apple chooses to release less powerful hardware for comparable prices, then the battery life must be through the roof to compensate. I would really love another 5 hours.

I said the same thing until I was able to sell my 64GB iPad 2 wifi for $600. I couldn't get anywhere near that value a year from now. I was going to hold out until iPad 4, but with that deal...too good to pass up.

It honestly might be cheaper to upgrade on a yearly basis with iPad than every two years just due to the resale value.

Future proofing? Just sell it in a year and buy the new one. Doesn't make much sense not to.

No kidding. The smartphone/tablet market is changing so fast and innovating so quickly that 'future proofing' is pretty idiotic and untenable. How would today's mobile quad core compare to one 3 years from now? It will be utterly anemic in comparison, considering apps at that time will be optimized for a much newer architecture. The performance is increasing so fast. Which is why demanding a quadcore today for 'future-proofing' is pretty much ridiculous.

Less powerful hardware, compared to what? Competing products? The not yet ready A6? The theoretical maximum capable power of today?

I hope it gets better battery as well, but I don't see what that has to do with compensation, what thing do you think they owe you in which needs compensation?

Kind of agree. Very surprised if the GPU at least isn't either a quad core, or a major jump up per core to support the res increase...otherwise I think the iPad after this might well go down as the right balance. More on the GPU side, more cores, wouldn't go unused in the way some thing a quad core CPU might.

We'll see what the GPU is like tomorrow I guess.

Shit. Rumors now show an Apple Tv3. And I finally caved on getting a 2 since there were no rumors last month.

Bought my second Apple TV less than 14 days ago.

As SOON as they officially announce this new one I'm taking mine back.

I will literally watch the live blogs with my car keys in-hand.

It would be awesome. Wooden bookshelves with wood texture. Pages with paper texture. Game Center feels like felt.

I look forward to the future.

THANK YOU!! You get it!
