This thread is like a train. Goes so fast.

Hopefully, it doesn't crash and burn like one too.

Nintendo's GDC booth is going to open soon right?

(My Japanese candy arrived! :D)
Oooh man, looks like I have some mega lurking to do. And the showfloor opens soon.

Meh. Couldn't be assed, anyone wanna summarise?

Nintendo is giving out Havok Physics and Animation as well as popular Autodesk middleware tools (below) to Wii-U developers. These packages are tens of thousands of dollars AFAIK.

Ooh, interest is rising.

You forget, the iPad 3 is going to be revealed as the Wii-U controller, with circle-pads and buttons added to the sides. So Nintendo and Apple will be announcing together!

Glad to see Nintendo doing whatever it takes to help developers.

Guy on the left is like "we have ourselves a bad ass right here huh"

Edit: In the end, the Wii was more than capable of producing visuals like this screenshot. Funny that they would bullshot something like this.

Kind of OT, but did anyone ever find out why Amazon stopped selling Nintendo hardware? It's been quite a while now since that started, and it makes me wonder if they will carry the WiiU either.

Supposedly it was just with the 3DS and it was because of the screen scratching issue. I thought that was fixed though. Something is strange about amazon and the 3DS. I don't want to go around spouting conspiracy theories, but if you search for the 3DS, it has a vita ad for a banner every single time, both in the search page and on the product page. The 3DS page also has breakdowns absent on other pages that seem to encourage purchasing a vita instead. It's very strange.

Is that a Sony-brand money hat they're wearing? lol

They licensed Scaleform, Kynapse and HumanIK, but not Beast? No need for pre-baked GI? Or will Nintendo simply provide their own solution?

Beast probably costs more than all the other tools combined; I bet that's all there is to it. Even though Nintendo isn't giving out licenses for it, that wouldn't mean there's anything preventing devs from using Beast/erNsT to create light maps - or any other tool for that matter.

A French-Canadian article claimed Epic had produced/would show a UE4 demo for the Wii U.

Awesome, thanks guys.

Huh. That is really weird. I searched PS Vita and PSP because I figured they were just advertising similar products, but there's no Nintendo ads at all. And there's a big "Check Out All PlayStation Portable Products" section up there instead. I suppose it's the same with any sort of billboards or advertising, though. You pay the cash, you get the ad. No hidden agenda, just Sony ponied up.

There's nothing strange about that. It's possible to buy these ad placements, which is what Sony did, to attract people interested in buying a new handheld. Also, the publisher itself is responsible for adding all product information. If there is none, it is because Nintendo didn't care.

That's all well and good, but what I find most odd is that the 3DS isn't sold directly by amazon anymore, even though the screen scratching issue has apparently been fixed.

Also, I'm not so sure that product description space is usually up for sale. 3/5 of the product description is a Sony ad. Links to the kindle also show up above the 3DS product page as well. It seems more likely that it's there because the product isn't sold directly by Amazon, not because it's meant to be ad space.

How is that news? And why the hell would someone go around sticking pictures of Gabe Newell all over the street?

What, the Steam Box is real?

Gabe's head is the steambox

Wow, the Phil Fish thread really eroded my soul... glad I got out of there when there was no more point to be made.

Glad to see that Nintendo is going balls-out with this middleware stuff. Do other platform holders give out middleware to developers, or is this a new thing?
