Wii U Speculation Thread 2: Can't take anymore of this!!!

It is possible.
They did add a sort of achievement system to the Mii Plaza on the 3DS.

Wasn't there a rumour a month or so back that they'd have a similar system, but instead of counting up points, getting .... I think the rumour called them "accomplishments" ... would add features to your system's interface (like special backgrounds or theming or whatnot) or add accessories to your Miis?

Ok after the EA change the world thing I'm not going to expect anything in regards to the WiiU this week.

Keep those expectations in check.

I wasn't even expecting anything from EA, and it was still painful.
I mean, the fuck.
Who was that even for?
They had journalists get up and leave during it.

I'm not too keen on middleware. I've heard of Havok, but how important is this? Pretty small, I assume?

I guess that UE4 rumor/report as well.

What was this about? It sounds intriguing.

Sorry, but when this thread moves 10 pages per day, it's really hard to go back and look for specific rumors.

Never saw the specific rumour you're talking about, but getting backgrounds/themes could easily be the best reason I could ever be given to fully complete the games I really enjoy.

The real question is, were Nintendo to do that, how long before platinuming or maxing points on a game gives you the same backgrounds/themes?

Anyone know any recorded videos of the EA stream? I'd like a look at what's got you all in such disbelief.

xbox already does something like this. i know i got a little spaceship for my avatar after playing enough radiant silvergun.

I just watched some of Nintendo's 2001 E3 conference and their 2006 conference. Firstly, I want to note that E3 changed so drastically from 2001 to 2006, but has changed so little from 2006 to now. Secondly, the 2006 conference made the Wii look so much cooler than it actually turned out to be (look no further than the Red Steel footage to see proof of that...). Thirdly, a loooot of awful games were shown during their sizzle reel: Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam, Necro-nesia, Sonic Wild Fire (later changed to secret rings), Final Furlong Revolution, Spongebob: Creature from the Krusty Krab, etc. Lastly, Excite Truck is so good.

Watching that E3 actually diluted my expectations a bit after being reminded of the gap between what we saw and what we ultimately got. I will say, though, that Wii U's 3rd party support is MUCH improved even before seeing what's yet to be revealed. While there's still a lot of ports, they're of much higher quality and I think we'll see many more exclusives at this E3.

just reading the guest list should have been enough to tell them no games would be shown

There's a difference between an event with short, 5-10 minute interviews about EA's games and how they relate to their fields of expertise with a sort of rundown of EA's GDC lineup, and a Sim City announcement event with 30-45 minute interviews with barely any tangential relevance to Sim City. If EA had labeled the event Sim City or "Our One Brand New Game From Maxis Conference" or some such similarities, then yes, I would have set my expectations for the ONE game they showed. I really have no issue with their event, it's just that they branded it something else in a context that screams "We're going to talk about games". If those interviews were focused around bringing a new way to think about games, that would be great, but instead it was just "These are important environmental activist people that like Sim City! Maybe!"

That presser was a travesty. There's just no getting around it.

Exactly, but what the fuck?

Why would Amazon have a page for a Wii U version of Kid Icarus in the first place? Don't they check that kind of stuff?

... a Wii U version of Kid Icarus ... ?

I was actually thinking just a minute ago about how kid icarus' unique control scheme could be emulated perfectly on the upad
