well it's true. the xbox and the ps3 are also 5-6 years old and a console does not need that much RAM.

Yup it is true. But I think it's a bit of a silly remark to make, comparing something not launched yet to tech that old. Meh, might just be me!

But it's like the comment earlier, apparently gamers prefer their iPad 2's to dedicated consoles!!! :O

#1 reason I want an iPad is this app. I'm serious here.

Sure it has more memory, but what about latency? Sure it is a Quad-Core but what about computing operations per cycle and registries on the CPUs?

I mean, iPad 3 is a beast, but let's not get ahead of ourselves Apple.

The sad thing is that Angry Birds will be the game that will be the most played on this.

Too bad it's so expensive. After I bought my HP Touchpad 32 Gb for 120 € I can't imagine paying more than 200 € for a high-end tablet.

How much do used iPads usually sell for?

~$400, unless they announce the iPad 2 being sold for $399. Then probably ~$300-$340.

Why, let's not take into consideration chip-size, mobility, or anything else like that!

I should have mentioned it's still really impressive. Like, really really impressive. But its superiority over those other things is not why it's impressive at all.

What will be impressive is how quickly they overtake the next consoles :P

i would hope that it would have more memory than 6 year old consoles.

not a very impressive stat.

Apple doesn't even give out RAM stats at all. Which is probably just as well in the tablet marketplace, given the near-total disconnect between apparent specs of tablets and real-world user experience. Not to say more RAM wouldn't be great, of course, but I don't read anything in to the particular amount of RAM it has.

A bit underwhelmed by the software features that come with this new incredible device. Voice dictation and that's it. Sooo boring.

iOS 6 better deliver.

But the Touchpad was on a fire sale. It originally retailed for iPad level entry prices.

It's been quite a while since I ordered something from Apples online store. Do they change the credit card on ordering or on delivery?

It's not a quad-core. It's a dual-core with quad-core graphics. You guys bought right into Apple's rhetoric, huh?

Nah, 16 gb is more than enough.

At least it is for me on my 2. Using it for internet/news/music production apps.

Depends on your type of usage. Using cloud storage, and generally being habitual about deleting stuff I don't use on every device I've ever owned regardless of HD size, I've never filled up a 16g device. My 8g devices I would have to manage my music a bit more.

Thanks for replying. I figured it will be more than enough for streaming media from the PC. Though it would be easy to fill it up when temporarily saving HD media form for example the HD camera..

Probably quicker than this generation. Chip manufacturers are all pushing for lower power requirements and energy efficiency more than ever.

They said more memory than an xbox360 and ps3, right? How much memory do they have?

Resolution-wise, 3.41 Xbox 360s.

Memory-wise, probably 2 Xbox 360s
With a GPU that's weaker. Also, they'll never let developers use all the available memory for individual apps like consoles do. So far the limit has been 128MB per app, now if we're lucky they might increase that to 256 maybe.

lol and consoles are barely pushing out 720p let alone 1080p
Exactly. I don't really expect true showcase games to run in 2560x1536.

Gdgt seem pretty impressed...

"This video is pretty damned impressive. Not just just for being done on an iPad, but being done on any consumer platform. Wow"

I take back all I said about 2012 being the year when other tablets become competitive. Apple just slammed the door, hard.

How so? Resolution is going to be exceeded pretty soon with the next wave of Android tablets. Supposed to be 2560 x 1600. Samsung's next tablets are going to come with chips that are either the same, or likely better than what they made for Apple for this. I know this is a hype thread, but expectations should probably be tempered some.

The main thing I'm excited about with this is the improved camera in this iPad. It'll push other manufacturers to start caring about that.

You'll probably have to wait for another tablet line failure if you want to get a high-end tablet for that money, tbh.

The problem is inertia; reaching parity, or slightly exceeding on the tech front isn't going to matter when you have the iOS + iPad combo in people's minds.
