It makes sense dropping the numbering, but I wonder how many people it'll confuse with the iPad 2 still out there.

They may retroactively adapt numerical names for older iterations for referencing purposes, while every new version is just the iPad.

Basically it associates the brand name itself exclusively with the newest iteration of product and marginalizes the older versions. It's a good marketing tactic.

I'm happy.

yeah what a scam

I wouldn't say it's a scam, but I'd agree with your earlier post that $350 would have been the sweet spot. $300 would have been the dream price, and literally cut the legs out from under all of the other lower cost android tabs.

Why are people freaking out over "more RAM than the PS3 or 360"?
I mean the Vita has more RAM than any of these two as well.

I'm also glad they removed the numbering but, man, it is true that it's awkward that this year they'll be selling an "ipad" that's more expensive than an "ipad 2"

I guess they wanted to deal with one year of awkward naming until the numbered iPads are out of the picture for good.

Better to bite the bullet now. Longterm, it's absolutely the right move.

So awesome. I was expecting the retina and all the improved graphics and the prices, but I am REALLY happy about the new software. I love iMovie and the updates for making trailers is great.

Same deal with iPhoto, that looks excellent. Can't wait, buying the 64GB version asap.

But I have a dumb question, could I just pop in my 3G sim into this iPad and have no issues whatsoever? I'm guessing hotspot is 4G only though.

Honestly, with them releasing stuff every year, makes sense to just keep the same name, it will be like cars, you will look for iPad (2012) etc when buying used in the future.

Wait...the A5X is quad-core? I thought they were sticking with dual-core. Is Stevens just talking shit, or has this been confirmed?

At least the GPU part is quad-core. They didn't mentioned the CPU part at all and I wouldn't be surprised if that one is still dual-core.

Edit: This thread is moving way too fast... :)

Looks good.
I have the dilemma of usage.
I owned an OG iPad, but sold it because I hardly ever used it.
Tablets fall in that narrow space of "doing things not quite as well as other stuff I already own."

Trying to convince myself to grab one of these, but having trouble doing so.
Just finished building a new PC, and not to say that I don't have the cash to spend, a $500 expense goes beyond the impulse level.
