The first preorder page loads quickly. Hitting preorder again, no go. Just a blank white page of endless loading. Alas. They must be getting slammed.

Fuck!

Gotta love how Apple products are now for sheep, when just a few years ago they were for contrarian hipsters. :P

Oh, it's still for contrarian hipsters. That's the thing, they are for everyone.

Everyone except for ultra tech-savvy grognards with aspergers.

I wonder. If I don't order it right now, will I lose my chance to get it by the 16th? Is supply going to be so constrained if I don't get it right out of the gate or can I casually order it tomorrow and not have a problem?
Man, is it really that bad if you get it by the 18th or something? I'd pay that price for being able to press the buy button with peace of mind.

They sell these when the store opens nowadays, right? I remember the iPhone launch was 6pm.

im thinking of going with the white 32GB wifi model, but im wondering if i will even need more than 16GB because I dont plan on storing music on it and thats what uses up most of the space on my iPhone. Will the apps that take advantage of the new resolution be significantly bigger?

some of the larger apps are 1GB, so I think I'd be wary of 16GB personally. 32 is probably the sweetspot, with 64 if you want to have a lot of offline content with you

typically if you dont order right away, you're not getting it for 3-4 weeks
Well, see, I don't really need it right away. It's probably just "New gadget lust". I could easily wait a few weeks. I only bought the iPad 2 day 1 last year because I didn't have one. Now I can probably wait. Even though I do have all the money ready.

Nice! The apple tv is only $109 in Australia, the previous model cost $129. That 109 includes sales tax so it pretty much costs the same here as it does in the US.

Why do some folks go for white? don't you guys watch movies on it, isn't it distracting to have a white border around the video?

1. White bezel doesn't show fingerprints as much as the black.

2. My wife, mom, mother-in-law and brother-in-law all have black iPads. Wanted something different.

A lot to ask but can anyone summarise the key points?

New iPad:
Retina (2048 x 1536)
quadcore graphics
More RAM (I assume ~ 1GB).
4G
Same battery life (9 hours on 4g)
Voice dictation
5 MP iPhone 4-like (camera rear)
$499 (for wifi 16GB)

iPad2:
($399 for 16GB wifi)

iOS:
New iPhoto app.
updates to iWork, garageband, iMovie.
5.1 out today (Japanese Siri)

New AppleTV:
1080P
iTunes in the Cloud for Movies.

I liked how the white iPad looked until I saw it in person.

Something about that just seems wrong to me. But hey, options are good.

I prefer the floating black "window of content" with no distracting tone around it.

Also - I have an iPad 1, and I think I will still wait. It's running like a dog these days but there's only 11 months until the next iPad. :)

I will, however, pick up the new Apple TV for my big plasma, and move the old one to the 720p set i have upstairs. Pretty happy about that.

Fair enough. I think The Verge's video podcast will be good enough for me later this evening.
There'll be an official Apple Keynote on iTunes and Apple.com later tonight as usual where you can watch the actual event instead of people talking about what they're seeing on other blogs.

Yeah, storage is going to be a bitch on this device. Huge photos and videos, huge assets, apps.

I anxiously await the day that flash storage is no longer an issue, but it's taking its sweet time.

Watching the keynote, Tim Cook seems to be alot better this time around. He seemed kinda tired at the 4S conference.

I'm completely validated with this conference. More Tim. Less Phil. It was awesome. Can't wait to watch the keynote.

My iPad path

32gb black wifi iPad 1 --> 16 gb black wifi iPad 2 --> 16 gb White New iPad

Once you go black....oh... That doesn't seem to fit here

By the numbers only that its in line with the rumours.

By the numbers normally suggests an update you'd expect, nothing special. Having a screen with a higher resolution than their 27" imac - on a 10" tablet - is not something I'd call 'by the numbers'.

Sure it is.

Who wasn't expecting that even without the rumors? People were hoping it was going to be in the iPad 2. When it didn't happen then, everyone knew it was going to happen now. The resolution was no surprise because the same thing happened with the iPhone. With Apple's push on the retina display to begin with, and the need to give something that was a jump, this was something everyone expected.

So yes, it's by the numbers.
