My first iPad as well and while this wont replace my gaming rig or consoles, I've certainly used my laptop a whole lot less. I can definitely see this taking away my budget for mobile gaming however...
I would be very happy if that happened.
Why do I want to cut down on my need for a computer? I can get a computer that's more powerful than the iPad, that I can type on, and that I don't have to hold up, for less money than the iPad.
Anecdotal. Plus, take a look at the top 25 apps on any iOS device. 9/10, they're games.

Troll (lol)
How come my consoles can only run Call of Duty in 600p but on my new iPad, Modern Combat 3 runs at 2048x1536 resolution?
How long will it take these guys to catch up to Apple?
On the contrary, everyone else responding to him were trolls since their posts had absolutely no value to this thread.
Your console is 5 years old.

Yet it is still for sale as the current technology and there is nothing else on the market to rival it, so that argument is moot.
lol haha what? Spend $150 on a graphics card and it will blow away what your console can do.
It honestly doesnt matter either way. A thread on the gaming side of neogaf will not make the ipad any more of a gaming device than it already is.iOS is obviously a very popular gaming platform. Getting bent out of shape because an iPad sales thread shows up on the gaming forum seems ridiculous. If the mods think is inappropriate it'll be moved but, why anyone else would give a damn either way is beyond me.
I just spent $200 on a new graphics card, and no, it can't. I can't completely max Skyrim out because other variables, such as my memory and CPU, are holding it back. I'm all for PC gaming and building my own rigs, but that's just a poor statement.
He is a master of his craft.
Oh right, another thing, you know which company doesn't really want a post-PC world, Apple, lest we forget that laptops and desktops are part of their core business. Lord knows I certainly see enough Macbook product placement in television shows and films.
posting Apple sales figures is trolling how exactly?
If people feel trolled by this then those people need serious help.
It's the fastest-growing gaming machine, so I think this thread fits here.
Touch is the future
And the PC is by far the biggest gaming platform on the planet, selling 1 million units a day worldwide, every day and not just at launch!
Only PCs also get used for a lot of other things and some may never even see a game in their life. A bit like the iPad.
Yet gaming software sells a lot better on the iPad than on the PC.
LolYet gaming software sells a lot better on the iPad than on the PC (with the exception of stuff like WoW).
What are ipad sales minus angry birds.Yet gaming software sells a lot better on the iPad than on the PC (with the exception of stuff like WoW).
Lol...what?
Yet gaming software sells a lot better on the iPad than on the PC (with the exception of stuff like WoW).
Should we really care though? Even if post-pc world happens all it means that other devices will become more popular than PC, not that PC will become less popular. I'm a PC gamer and Apple can go and sell 500 mln iPads a year, yay for them, but it won't have much effect on my own gaming.
Yet gaming software sells a lot better on the iPad than on the PC (with the exception of stuff like WoW).
No. It's always been more complicated than that - otherwise everyone would develop exclusively for PC. There's demographics to take in to consideration, and where people choose to spend their "serious" gaming time, the competition on the platform (eg 69p games), piracy, etc. Hence why the PSP always did well in "install-base" but never had any games charting, and no developers wanted to make anything for it.It makes sense. Install base size dictates sales potential of software on the platform. Imagine if mainstream game companies start developing exclusively for iPad leaving consoles dry. Of course, I am exaggerating here (for now at least).
I think a way to insulate is to have strong first party developers.

Lets hear now about all the killer apps this thing have.

Units sold.
I imagine Apple would be perfectly fine with the diminishment of its laptop/desktop business, in favor of its tablet business.
How about gross income?Units sold.
Why is this in the gaming section?

Touch is the present, a stepping stone at best, and the faster it goes away the better off we are. (I know you were sort of kidding)
That being said, can't wait for my new iPad.
Because its a gaming device just like the Xbox and PC are?
Your console is 5 years old.
Proof?
Kinda like the Kindle, 3DS is saved by its price point (and its mascots)
So when the Wii U releases later this year, it's gonna run at a native 2048x1536 like the new iPad?
