This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

If you're gaming with it, I recommend going for a wired mouse. Nothing sucks more than having a micro stutter from wireless interference or having your mouse run out of juice during a long play session. The battery won't be an issue at first... but after you've owned it for a while, it'll come into play.

I'm looking for a good mouse, myself. I just got a mechanical keyboard and want a mouse that is equally durable and comfortable. I don't really like the idea of getting a Razer because from my experience, they have a good chance of dying right after the warranty is expired. But they're great mice right up to that point. I was thinking about a SteelSeries mouse or maybe trying out one of those R.A.T. mice. Anyone have any input? I've got a pretty large budget and I'd like to get something that has plenty of options for button mapping and will last a long time.

Oh, and no G500 suggestions. That mouse is ugly as sin.

Agree about wireless mice for gaming.

I was also looking at SteelSeries because theirs are ambidextrous (most gaming mice are specifically right-handed which is annoying) and I saw some good reviews. I've never heard good things about Razer.

Pardon the repost, but: Mid-Dota 2, my internet was cut last night because my landlord's ISP bans p2p software. They're pretty hardcore about this, and even state in the internet policy that if you play WoW, you have to disable p2p in the Blizzard downloader and only use direct download.

So what brought the banhammer upon me? Skype. In the angry notification I received, they even list Spotify as a recently blacklisted program. Knowing how crazy these people are, what other VoIP programs are out there that definitely don't use p2p?

TeamSpeak, Ventrilo and Mumble. Of course, you have to connect to a server with all of those.

What was that thread about some gamer who took on the most impossible games (mostly platforms)?

Has there been any hint of a Batman Arkham City and a Assassins Creed Revelations GOTY edition?

I want both but I'd rather have the GOTY editions with the DLC included.

Just curious, how do Namco Bandai decide which logo to put on game boxarts?

Just noticed on Amazon that Enslaved has the Namco logo, but Majin has the Bandai logo.

Bought a Razer Deathadder mouse. Hooked it up, worked fine (on my bare wooden table). Noticed there was a transparent sticker on the bottom of the mouse, peeled that off. Got 10x worse, it barley moves (on the bare table) but if I put like a cardboard piece of paper it works fine. My settings on the driver are like this:

What's going on? Don't tell me I have to buy a mousepad (searched a bit and people are saying the deathadder + steelseries qck or goliathius is the best combo) but comon were in the damn 21st century. Why would I buy a mousepad?

I was going to hook up my laptop to my tv to play Just Cause 2 with an xbox mouse. When I go to the menu to change resolution, I can't go past my laptop's native resolution, so I can't use 1080p. Any way to fix this? Specifically, is there a system level way to fix this? I know games like Prototype won't behave either, and it has no console.

Use a white piece of paper as a mouse pad.

Hey GAF, I feel like playing a JRPG right now, but I don't know what to start / where to begin.
The most recent JRPG I've played are Xenoblade (which I adored and consider the best JRPG this generation) and FFXIII-2 (which I enjoyed greatly too), and I have sitting on my shelf :

Star Ocean 4 International kay.
Eternal Sonata
Infinite Undiscovery (Which I played for a little and only remember DINNER DINNER DINNER)
Resonance of Fate
The Last Remnant
Lost Odyssey
Blue Dragon
Magna Carta 2
Nier
Enchanted Arms
(And Fallout New Vegas, but that's a WRPG)

I hate bad combat systems, stupid sidequests and games where backtracking is just a pain. Which game should I begin with ?

Could someone please post that picture of a depressing looking "gaming room" that looks like it's in a basement / tiny room with a GameCube, small CRT TV and a picture of Reggie or someone like that on the wall? Cheers!

Batman Arkham City probably will have a GOTY edition (nothing announced yet), but the Assassin's Creed series has never had a GOTY release.

Thanks.
Assassins Creed usually has a 'goty' edition though. Assassins Creed 2 had a Complete Edition with DLC and Brothehood had the Da Vinci Edition with DLC.

Play Nier. The combat system isn't turn-based/time based, but more like a third person action game. It's not particularly advanced, but it works. Side quests are optional. Backtracking is generally no problem since the game world isn't that big, and you can just run past enemies anyway. And the story is So. Fucking. Good.

Is it possible to access files stored on the SD card of the 3DS in its web browser? It'd be handy to have a walkthrough available at times I'm on the move and not within wifi range.

Can I install the Xbox 360 controller drivers on a usb stick? The school's computers won't allow installations because of admin rights >_<

Edit: Actually, I managed to do just that. But neither Game Maker 8 nor Construct 2 will recognize its inputs even though I can clearly see Windows update installing the drivers...

I bought a pre-owned DS game yesterday and was surprised to find that it rattled when moved as if there was something loose inside it. Initially I was concerned that I might have a counterfeit cart but all seemed to be in order. So I inspected all of my DS carts and some of those rattled too; even those that were bought new from reputable retailers and were foil sealed.

So I am not concerned about this anymore but I am curious! Does anyone have any idea what could explain this?

yeah I've noticed this too, albeit only with Pokemon Black and SoulSilver. I just assumed it was related to the IR thing inside the cartridge, but maybe not.

In WCW/NWO Revenge, Juventud Guererra does this move in which he front flips onto a guy's shoulders, then DDTs him.

Is this a thing that someone has ever done in a wrestling match?

Is there a good site for info about racing wheels (sort of like how Shoryuken is to arcade sticks, but for steering wheels and reviews).

Hey. Copied this from my posting/asking in the recent Media Create thread. Figured was worth a shot, thanks for any help!

Is there any website, or easy method to figure out pretty close or pretty roughly the US or Worldwide sales of any video game?

Sure, when they sell a ton we get a price release. We have Nintendo's Million sellers, and we have plenty other examples as noted in Wikipedia. But says like "Man, I wonder how well Star Ocean 2 sold for the PSP!"

Is there anyway to figure this out?
Is there some kind of method if I do some kind of ridiculous research using the NPD, Pal Charts, and Media Create that I could figure this out --- and even then, a way to figure out games that dont make the top 10/20?

I am sure that someone in the MC thread will answer your question explicitly. However, there are some GAFers and Sales Agers who take a great interest in these matters and have their own online databases where they collate sales figures. Some of them are searchable so you could search for just one game like you suggest. However, which GAFers have which databases and what their URLs are I cannot tell you I am afraid. Sorry. If you don't get a response in that thread feel free to give me a prod and I'll see if my memory can rustle up a name or two of GAFers you could PM to ask.

However, whatever you do, do not consult ********. They are banned here and are not a credible source of factual information.

Roger, Noted, and Thanks. It'd really be nice if we had MC for all regions, not just Japan.

Didnt NPD use to do things differently but had drastic changes in the last 2-3 years? I remember something like that, but I didnt follow sales as closely then so paid little attention.

Pleasure :).

Well we do have NPD for 'merika and the equivalent [whose name escapes me] for Yurop but they only release scant information. NPD info used to be available in great detail here due to leaks but NPD has cracked down increasingly hard on that because they don't want info that they charge subscribers to their service thousands of dollars for, freely available on the internets. IIRC it costs something like $6000 per month for NPD numbers but I might be mis-remembering that figure. It's not a trivial sum anyway! NPD used to give us more info but they've even cut back on that now.

Is it possible to erase the data for super mario kart snes, I got it in a trade and all the 50cc have been done and half the 100cc.
