This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

Okay, so I played through all of Mass Effect 2 and I finally unsealed that dusty copy of ME I never played.

Question: How do I steady the sniper rifle? Every time I ADS, its like Shep there is basically on two percoset with a valium and rum chaser.

Put points into it. :/
Don't ask me how many, or if it's going to help significantly...

I'll try that, thanks for the heads up. I think I already have put like 4 or 5 points into it, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I've heard of idle sway before but this is like trying to ride a rollercoaster and shoot at the same time.

I have a question about Nier.

I hear there's an ending
that erases all of your save data. How do you get that ending? I'd like to save that one for last, for obvious reasons. :P
I'm not that far into the game, so minimal spoilers please.

You play through the game for the first time, and you get ending A. Save the game when you defeat the final boss, and start a new game+. You'll start at about the middle of the game, so finish up the game again (shouldn't take too long now that you know what to do), and get ending B. Then start new game+ again, and get to the final boss again. You'll now get a choice. Depending on your choice, you'll get ending C or ending D.
The game will ask you about 4 times if you're sure when you pick the option for ending D, which will then cause the game to delete your save data.

Oh, well that's easy enough. :P Guess I won't be getting that accidentally then. (We'll see if I can bother to finish the game that many times.)

You only need to play through it three times. First two for endings A and B, and the third time you save at the final save point before the final boss, then pick the option for ending C, kill the boss to get the trophy/cheevo, reload your last save, kill the final boss again, and pick the othjer option to get ending D.

I don't know if this is a stupid question, but I don't think it deserves it's own thread.

Anyone know what happened to that Behemoth game? You know, the guys who made Castle Crashers and Alien Hominid? I remember little guys running around on platforms that changed color or something and I was excited because their past two games were really fun. Then it seemed to just...drop off the face of the planet. Did something happen? Is it still in development? What's the deal?

They are still working on it. I think they just had some problems, hence the long development time. Follow there blog/twitter and you will get lots of updates.

How come some characters in games are designed so they only run?

InFamous and Gravity Daze are the two most recent examples that come to mind. You can't make them walk at all. They can either stand still or run.

You think that some people would like to take their time and just take a casual stroll.

Quick question about resolutions and consoles:
I'm currently playing a certain PS3 game in 720p on my monitor, but the frame rate is atrocious. Would reducing the resolution of the game to 480i help the framerate?

I'm so e x c i t e d. I'm buying an xbox30 soon and I need to choose between the 4g and larger gig new ones. I don't have much money so i want to buy the small one, but would you help me decide if it will be enough for my gaming;

I will play Fifa daily, maybe online on occasion.

I will play Skyrim with my sister. We will have separate saves for both of our characters, and both of us will keep multiple saves on the character (5 +/- 2)

Most importantly, I get to start my favorite game in the entire world, Mass Effect. I don't know how the continuing from one game with the same character works, but will the 4g 360 be enough to play the trilogy? I will keep multiple saves and many different characters (3 or 4).

Thank you

4GB is fine for game saves. Even in Skyrim, one save file doesn't get much bigger than ~15MB. You can also plug in a USB drive for extra storage.

You really only need a large hard drive if you plan on storing videos, DD games, and DLC.

I put a USB drive into my 360 and after I set it up I got a message saying that it didn't pass an integrity check and I may have poor performance using it. Has anyone gotten this message and had no issues? I've only tried one game so far and it was fine.

why don't current gen controllers and Handhelds have 6 buttons instead of 4?

It's likely that the 4 button scheme appeals to more casual customers, and they could essentially save most of any game's functionality by using the R1/L1/RB/LB and triggers. Obviously though, this never translates well in fighting games.

I just held my PS3 controller and imagined that there were 6 face buttons. It seems like it would be too complex, but maybe that's just me.

EDIT:For fighting games though, it would be better with 6 face buttons.

Downloaded Origin for BF3 and logged in. I only see BF3 and ME2 (which i bought through steam) as my games. I bought BFBC2 through the "old" EA download manager/Store so where is BFBC2 now ? Isn't Origin just the "new" version of the EA download manager? Do i have to reenter the BFBC2 code in Origin?

I think i don't have my BFBC2 code anymore (fucked up my mozbackup file for Thunderbird before formating my HDD)

BF3 - Battlefield 3
BFBC2 - Battlefield Bad Company 2

Log in to your EA account via their web page and poke around. If it shows up in your account there it should display the key, too, I think. I have stuff on Origin that doesn't show up there, perhaps it's the other way around, too... Wouldn't surprise me.

edit: Never mind, I was mistaken about it displaying keys. Still has a nice message at the top though: "In the coming months your EA Account and profile will be upgraded to a new Origin™ Account." Ha. How long has it been now since Origin launched? Come on, EA.

Blizzard games have never been on Steam have they? I have a friend that keeps ranting about how Blizzard is a money grubbing company for bailing on Steam and making their own store but I'm sure they've never been on there and he won't listen to me, does anyone know of any articles or anything that can confirm or deny him?

I have a 4Gb model, myself, and I just use an 8Gb USB stick for extra storage. I'd like to have more but what MS charges is BS. When I finally DO buy more storage I'll just spring for a 16Gb USB stick and be satisfied, since my connection isn't really good enough for streaming movies or huge downloads anyways.

I did buy a USB stick one time that got me this message, I forget the brand but it was a more famous company and I was rather surprised. Now I just stick with PNY brand USB drives and they haven't given me any grief. Usually they are the cheapest you'll find anyways.

Now, on to my own question dear GAF.

I only buy a game a month or every 6 weeks, so I like to make a sound "investment". My connection is really crap, but it is the best connection I can get in my rural area. It's a 3G cellphone connection and on a great day I can play my 360 online with a ping of between 175-250. I've effectively played both Borderlands, Rage, and the Left 4 Dead series on this connection. It isn't perfect, but as I said it's the best available to me.

I don't post this to hear people bitch about how I shouldn't lag other people's games out with my crap connection, as with the smokin' internet most people have on Live I have a hard time feeling sympathy.

Recently I bought Modern Warfare 2 just to see how it would play and it wouldn't even let me connect to any online games since it has a maximum ping barrier of 145ms. So right off the bat I won't be wasting any more money on the CoD series.

I was a huge fan of the original Halo back in the day, and I'm wondering if someone who has Halo: Reach and a shitty connection could tell me if it has a ping-barrier like CoD where it'll only allow people with, say, below a 150ms ping to connect to online matches.

I'd really appreciate any help, as I'm sure I can't be the ONLY person with a connection that is decent enough to connect to Live, but still shitty enough to make it an "iffy" prospect. Hey, what can I say? I got tired of paying $100 a month for satellite internet with like 12Gb of data and 5 second ping times :/

Thanks, GAF!

I'm thinking of picking up Gran Turismo 5 but have a couple of questions.

1. Can I access fast/decent cars right from the start without grinding through races?
2. Is the Top Gear track available right from the start?
3. If I get the platinum/budget release will I still need to download all the updates seperately?

thanks.

As far as I remember, Blizzard has never had any games on Steam before. I googled it to find an article stating otherwise, almost all of the hits are asking why Blizzard has no titles on steam, even though there are Activision titles like MW are on it. I guess it has something to do with Battle.net and how it functions, or they figure they have a big enough fan base that they can sell digital copies themselves and reap all of the profits instead of giving Valve a cut.

Logged into my Bioware account today to register a ME3 DLC code someone gave me and noticed some issues. It looks like all the EA account merger stuff over the past couple of years has caused the Bioware site to forgot all the games and DLC I had registered. Is there a way to fix this or do I have to contact them? I still have all the DLC installed for my games but if I need to reinstall in the future that will present a problem.

Why *did* fighting games gravitate to six? As someone who doesn't play fighters, it seems like unnecessary overkill (and if you're going to go for unnecessary overkill, why not go for eight or more instead?

Well the deluxe version of the Street Fighter 1 cabinet had 2 analog pressure pads (one for punch and one for kick) and your character would make a stronger attack depending on how hard you hit it. I guess when replicating that to a button layout they felt it was best to give 3 levels of strength, then stuck with that throughout the series.

Is there anything like a sidescrolling beat em up RTS hybrid? Sort of like Battleheart on iOS but sidescrolling a la Streets of Rage?

Is Earth Defense Force 2017 the 'good one'?

I found a random copy pre-owned but I wasn't sure if it was the silly fun one that GAF raved about or the other 'not as good one' so I put it back.

I've only heard of it cause of Zangeki no Reginleiv lol.

Both EDF games this generation were great. 2017 is the one the purists like more, though.

in terms of what defines the "classic" EDF experience, 2017 is your best bet.

if you like cheap, westernized, soulless clones of things, play armageddon.

I'm trying to remember the name of specific flash game that was posted a little while back but I can't find the thread. I believe you could choose from one of three character types and then you'd get put on a little field and you would move left and right in this small area killing mobs and leveling up, it was meant to be a really simplistic RPG I think. As you played the game got harder and would spawn tougher mobs. I believe a shop would also spawn between levels where you could buy better equipment and such.
