Apple iPad 2 |OT|

New update seems to have helped a lot with battery life, I just watched a local channel's TV stream at full brightness/sound, web browsed, viewed photos, etc, etc, and it only just changed to 99%. Any hope of getting it jailbroken soon?

Can anyone recommend a good office app, mostly want something word-like. It doesn't have to be 100% professional like Pages which is a bit expensive (for my needs, it seems to be worth that much) but I also don't want it completely plain like many of the cheap/free apps. I'd like decent text editing and the ability to at the very least do things like bullets and more importantly insert tables and maybe shapes and stuff to make diagrams etc instead of just text while taking class notes.
WriteRoom

Is that completely online based, cos I see it mentions dropbox. I tried some other free thing and it was only online based, couldn't access it locally, and there may not be internet available where I (well, my sis) need it.

Ok, bought an iPad Camera Connection Kit for my parents, who have a Sony Digital 7mp camera, and want a way to download photos to their iPad.

So, the SD one is kinda useless, since the Sony Digicam uses Memory Stick Pro Duo cards.

So I ask for a USB cable to plug the camera in. My parents don't know what that is.

Ok, so I pull out my old Memory stick card reader with Duo adapter. Plug it into the USB port of the dongle in the iPad.

"There is not enough power to the USB device".

Oh well suck. Contact my sister who has a newer Sony Camera that uses the same cable. USe the cable and plug into the digital camera.

"This USB device is not supported".

What a piece of junk.

It works with the newer cam. It works with the card reader IF I plug it into a powered usb hub..

But man, now I know why it doesn't have a USB by default. It's a mess.

I hope I can return it.

edit: I spoke too soon. See below.

For the older camera you might have to set it to some other mode first, like PTP or something. I remember that crap being a manual setting on some to switch between showing up as storage or as a camera device.

Heh, I just came back from messing about (didn't read your post). I knew there was a mode for that so before I was going to take it back I decided I'd fiddle with those settings. Came back to write:

"Yup, PTP makes it work".

Thanks anyway!

Anyway, I guess there's no way to backup the imported photos to iCloud? From what I read, iCloud only backs up the camera roll (images taken with iPad). So to back up, I guess I need a PC.... (or an app, but that's getting a bit crazy). This is my parents iPad, which I was hoping to keep PC-free. Oh well, I might just transfer their images every so often.

Good question, I thought the imported photos went to the camera roll in the first place. I guess one way to make sure is to check out Manage Storage->device and see how much the camera roll is before and after importing a chunk of photos.

Nope, imported photos go into their own imported "folder" (not really an album). With a "Last imported" Album, and an All imported.

I'm guessing they sit in an area, like a DCIM folder until they are imported into a PC.

But yeah, I was hoping a new slot like "imported photos" shows up in the iCloud manage area, but I don't think so. Judging from my research around the internets, its not backed up to iCloud to save it getting bloated.

Thank you iPad 3. Because of you coming out soon, I just picked up a 64 GB WiFi iPad 2 in immaculate condition for $500. Thank you so much.

Just sold mine for the same price. Buyer definitely got a better deal than me, but that's the price I pay for procrastinating (just like last year as well)

Just got an iPad 2 and loving it so far. I know there are solutions for playing flash video, so which are the best ones and what are their restrictions.

Does it not work to iCloud the whole app just?

Oh yea, received my Hover Bar for iPad 2 today! It's pretty awesome. Though it's a bit shorter than what I expected and it's annoying it shakes when typing on the iPad, but I'll live with it.

pics please. So you think it could clamp to a bed easily?

This is how it looks in an overall room:

Quick question. What would be the way to know what is the condition of the battery on a used ipad 2 I just bought? Is there an app or something like that that I can use to test it to know how old is it ? I am an ipad newbie so I have no idea. Thanks.

Hmm... The wobble factor when tapping/swiping on a gooseneck iPad stand was one of the potential drawbacks that kept me from getting one of those models. You might be able to lean something heavy against the arm to try and stabilize it.

I ended up getting a Cobra SnakeClamp instead for an iPad eye-level stand solution, and like it quite a lot, with a few reservations. It's very stable when something is leaned against the arm because it uses solid aluminum bars.

Here's my review of the Cobra SnakeClamp for iPad, with pics.

I saw your post but I don't like the design of it, it doesn't fit the look I'm going for. I'm pretty happy with the hover bar, thanks for the suggestion though. :)
