Some free apps label themselves and incompatible with your phone on the Android market even though they're not. I can no longer play Tiny Tower for this reason until I find an apk file of the latest version.

Device support information is in the app file itself, rather than via the reseller systems.

Correct, I used to get a message in Tiny Tower that said "this game isn't tested on your device!" but it would let me start the game anyway. Now it tells me I need to update the app and loads the Android Market where it's unavailable for my device.

Have you tried contacting the developer? I know if it were us I'd rather you did that. We read and respond to every query :)

Do all Android Apps also run on tablets and is there a way to see if the app has been optimized for tabled ( transformer prime) use ?
And what would be the equivalent to toucharcade.com for android games ?

The same applies whether or not it's a paid app. I expect the downloader assigns a different weight to the infringement, but I think it boils down to the same thing legally.

There's more of a risk of malware for the user though, so I'm not sure why anyone would choose to pirate a free app.

In the case of apps that are free but only available in other regions, such as 100 Man Bomberman which I was indirectly referring to.

So just bought GTA III, maxed it out on my Galaxy Note. Now, it plays extremely smooth and i just realized, wow, this machine is a powerhouse. First time i ever gave virtual controls a chance too! Before i just played flightcontrol etc.

Now, do anyone know any Android games that really pushes the tech? I want some real good looking games that are known to be very tech demanding!

Modern Combat 3?

The problem with the note is though it's not really a powerhouse. It struggles with games because it has the same hardware like SGS2 but a much higher resolution. So games like modern combat 3 are playable though they have quite some issues with fluctuating framerate and the likes. For example Asphalt 6 HD is stuttering a lot.

If anyone is interested in doing some early testing of the AI for my game Total Pool.

Ok first pass of AI is complete. I am sharing it here so people can try it out and give me feedback/report bugs before I put it on the store and push it to a couple of thousand people.

This should be absolutely fine to install over/run alongside your other version without damaging your save file, however since it has not been thoroughly tested it is slightly more risky.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13593420/TotalPoolFree.apk

I'm only sharing the free version, however it's fine to run alongside the paid version (they will share the save data).

Features
- 4 difficulty levels of AI for every single game mode
- AI can sensibly lag, break, call balls and pockets, opt to replace cue ball, rerack, push out
- AI can play shots at varying speeds and spin

What you can tell me
- does it work? is it fun? is it realistic? is it slow? are the difficulties what you expected? any glaring bugs? any ridiculous strengths of the ai? any obvious weaknesses?

This is by no means done, I still have a nice big list of ways I can improve it, however I know a lot of people wanted to try this out so I wanted to get something playable in your hands as quickly as possible. As well as improving on the ai and performance I want to add game modes and unlocks related to the ai, is there anything here you'd really like to see (no promises).

Thanks a lot for your time, please try it out and give me feedback.

My wife is always playing Point & Click adventure games on her Ipad but I have a hard time finding any good ones for Android.

Recommendations?

I just bought a Toshiba Thrive tablet.. I've had a Galaxy S2, but rarely use it for apps.

Are there any "flagship" Android games? For example, iOS has Sword and Sorcery and Infinity Blade, etc.. I'd like to find some decent games to play on the tablet, but I'm not really sure what to look for.

Well first things first is http://www.humblebundle.com/ is a great deal on some great games.

There aren't much in the way of "flagship" Android games. Anything that is super popular on Android is most likely also on iPhone too.

Flick Kick Football, as available from both Amazon and Google Play, has an update.

Once you apply it the game will render at native resolution for your device, greatly increasing the visual quality on some devices (however, game still only renders in 3:2 aspect ratio).

Wind-Up Knight, although that's on iOS too now. Other great cross-platform include Game Dev Story, and Angry Birds/Rio/Space if you're into that.

I also have a Note and it doesn't play smooth and stutters from time to time. Any suggestion?

My new game Gunman Clive was just released. The game is a sidescrolling action game (MegaMan clone) set in the old west with a funky artstyle. Supports Xperia Play, gamegripper and various other control methods

I kind of just got into android gaming a couple of months ago, I did a 20 year of Game Dev Story and don't feel like going through it again, there are a lot of kairosoft games, which other ones are the best?

Gunman Clive looks pretty sweet, I'll probably get that too.

The apps in the play store will say if they're compatible with your device. The distinction between tablets and smaller devices is not a sharp one (like with the iPad). Games and apps will work well on a tablet to varying degrees. It's up to the developer to set restrictions on screen size and resolution in the manifest to allow or stop their app from showing up for you in the market.

There is a section in the play store called "Staff picks for tablet", you might find some stuff there.

Guys I bought GTA3 for my Samsung Tablet 10.1 and no matter what it won't download the extra files. Have plenty of room and keeping getting an error stating, "make sure your time is set right."

It is not rooted or anything and never has been. But since purchase only GTA3 gives me these issues. Any ideas of a workaround?

I'm a big fan of the Hot Springs story and Player League story. Hot Springs story gives you a cool sense of customization when building your hot spring. Player league story is a lot more about individual stats. Depends what your taste is.

Dungeon Village and Grand Prix Story are my favorites.

If all you want are nice graphics, Shadowgun. Also, MC3 plays sluggish on your Note? Is it USA's SKU? Since the during the 5 minutes i tolerated that game I didn't notice notable low performance on mine (International SKU, which has a different, more powerful chipset than USA's.)

Yep MC3 also stutters.

Bought it in Spain so I guess it's not USA SKU.

Oh god. Kairosoft hates ios. Epic astro and dungeon village is not even out on ios and now android gets this first?

Btw MC3 does not really stutter on my note. Mine is on ICS though, I dunno if that matters.

I posted this in the Android OT but no one really goes on it very much since it went to community so I'm going to post this also in here (it's semi-relevant to the thread).

I'm hopefully picking up a Samsung Galaxy Note from newegg.ca once I can save up some money. I have a few questions though...

-Does the amazon app store work in Canada? I need my Plants vs. Zombies fix or I'll explode.
-Does the Google app store allow payment with Visa prepaid gift cards? I don't have a credit card (nor do I intent to) and I might end up getting an iOS device if I have no method of getting paid apps on android.

Plants vs Zombies is available on Google Play/Android Market

Payments are done through Google Wallet, so... probably?

Awesome. I am really pumped to get my pay check at the end of the month now. I am finally moving on from Blackberry so this is going to be a huge jump for me. :D

What're the must have android games?

I would recommend:

Game Dev Story
Plants vs. Zombies
Drop 7
Cut the Rope
Fruit Ninja
World of Goo
Angry Birds
Dungeon Raid
Where's my Water

Yeah, I think those are my most played.

Canabalt HD??? I'm sorry, but 2.50 for this game seems like a huuuuge ripoff to me. Plus honestly, I find Zookeeper overrated, sorry, eventhough I love the style.

I got Canabalt in the humble bundle myself. Maybe wait for a sale then.

The game is $3 on itunes and PSP, though. And the Android version has cool 3D graphics.

Of course there are some good runner games that are free too, like Lame Castle and YooNinja.
