GI.biz: "Wii U less powerful than PS3, Xbox 360, developers say"

Lol, small time developers compared to the anonymous ones in question. Where are the comments on how many shaders there are?! It's like these guys are simply pretending to know what they're talking about!

Anyway, the reason why I find it hard to believe the Wii U is weaker than the HD twins is that that would put it around the same power level as the Vita! Does that make any sense to anyone?!

Maybe. Let's continue to give this rumor undue weight due to the miniscule possibility of all those developers being completely wrong!

They have not shown a thing that says otherwise. This is one of the series' inherent features.

Simple game like mario was even jaggie!

A thought: All New Super Mario Brothers games look like shit.

I really do hate the NSMB artstyle and hope they change it. How about a high quality sprite based game like Wario Shake?! That'd be amazing if we had the old 2d Mario art back!

All these low expectations are a good thing IMO, can't wait to see people get shocked at E3 ;)
Positively shocked at it being more powerful than originally thought or with disdain at it being being tuned up 360. I'm keeping my expectations, expecting the latter. Don't really care too much, as long as the system is priced accordingly. I just want to play some Nintendo franchises in HD (don't really have much time for games these days, so only really save it for the very best).

Based on Mark Rein's comments last month, I would take an educated guess that 'Shocked' will be a positive thing.

Bah...don't let these BS 'quotes' bring you down GAF.

This little nugget was up and running in less than a month on the earliest Wii U beta dev kit:

Not really impressed to be honest. I expect Nintendo will show off the best they possibly can at E3. Enough fuel for Nintendo fans to yell, "SEE!", but not enough to impress anyone with modern standards for next gen technology. Some stuff will look good ... until Sony or Microsoft demo their next platforms and end that debate. So I would advise Nintendo only owners and dreamers to lap up any graphical attention WiiU gets while it lasts.

I'd love to be wrong, but I won't. Best advice is to just own a few platforms so you don't care as much.

To be fair, the master race PC version also looks .."not as good as many other games".
But many assume/assumed that it was because of the free to play nature of the game; rather than the quality of PC games, the Wii U or the developer.

Though, I guess Discomurf point was more around the relatively easy port rather than to show of the visuals; while making good use of the touchscreen..in early dev kits. Unlike the info the article about how it would be technically easier to make a PS3 game that uses the Vita as a controller. This early dev kits had lower specs and even problems with the streaming to the controller (which is why the demos were usually wired).

Dev kits since then has been improved (streaming too); with "more stuff"...v5 just recently started going out apparently.

An unfinished game put together on an early dev kit in a short amount of time looks worse than a finished released game? Who'd a thunk it?

Then why the fuck do people post that kind of stuff in a 'look guys, this report is bullshit, lemme show you what it's all about" kind of way. That's not helping their case at all. This GR footage looks shit, technically. I doubt it's gonna turn into something that blows PS£/360 games away all of a sudden.

In addition, that console has been announced almost a year ago, and that's all we've seen. Far from impressive bits of tech demos and pre-pre-alpha crap. Not exactly reassuring.

And when did they say this? Was it after Nintendo lost millions of dollars and posted their first annual loss in over a hundred years of operation because they were forced to do a massive price drop when the 3DS sold poorly due to a high price point?

I think the system was originally intended to be more powerful, before the specs were finalized, but then the 3DS cost them a lot of money and they got scared and scaled back the Wii U to be cheaper.

Nintendo's loss was because of exchange rates.

Well, it is a quite possible scenario; however, you should also notice 3DS wasn't inherently expensive, they just priced it high.

I would say WiiU being as powerful as 3DS is compared to Vita, is the most probable scenario.

Much more powerful than DS and PSP, still a level below PSV.

Nintendo's loss was because of exchange rates.
If 3DS had sold good from the beginning and before the price drop, it was quite probable we wouldn't see the loss.

Lost profit is lost profit.

I also have a source who said that. It was a brother from my uncle's best friend who works at Nintendo. Anonymous of course.
And you clearly have to trust this source more than all the other sources who claim otherwise which have at least the company name for some credibility. Would be absolutely amazing if the source is actually Sony. :D

I'm not expecting anything much visually from GRO, its a free to play title but it does show a semi decent looking game running on very early hardware same goes for Killer Freaks. I look forward to seeing how the latter turns out.

Its Nintendo mate, they wont show shit until they want to show it.

Hahahahaha

All I want from the Wii U is a console that has my favorite type of games. I'd love to see a decent looking Final Fantasy on the Wii U eventually (not Versus, keep that to PS3.) But I'd love to see Yakuza & other amazing Japanese titles appear on the Wii U.

I'm not saying they have to be exclusive to the Wii U but I don't want to have to shell out money for both a PS4 & Wii U & only have one of those systems collect dust while waiting for a game I want to come out. My PS3 currently does just that, there's not a lot of awesome Japanese games but am hoping they'll make a come back one day.

Did they all lie???

Um - the EA one :

Electronic Arts's new COO Peter Moore has backed the Nintendo Wii U, whilst also questioning both Microsoft and Sony's future directions.

EA will provide a host of launch titles for the new console, which will propel Nintendo into the HD games market for the first time.

He told IndustryGamers: "People will start talking about [the Wii U] being a transitional platform. And I don't think that's going to be the case.

"And here's why: the [tablet] controller [is huge]. This is not about specs any more... This is about, as it was with the Wii, is the controller a unique way of enjoying a game experience, regardless of what the graphic fidelity is?"

They got in one little slump, and Iwata got scared, and said 'we're scaling down the tech, then we're moving to Bel Air'

Nintendo is one of the richest companies in Japan with zero debt and billions of dollars in petty cash at their disposal. They are not 'afraid' of anything..much less a small hiccup in their 100 year history lol.

Hahahahaha

Yeah, why would never Nintendo learn from their mistake with the 3ds and sell expensive hardware one right after the other after cutting the price to a loss at record time. That is funny.

Or is the joke the idea that someone spent the time to type "Ha" numerous times as a reply to something. Cause that's not funny to me. It's more sad.

I just don't believe Nintendo would do the exact same move that caused them a lack of software sale on their platform, 6 years later. Wii UI has to be more powerful than 6 years old consoles. It just makes sense, god damnit.

When has sense ever applied to Nintendo in anything they do?

Yes. Why the fuck would you include three controllers? Most of us already have Wiimotes and will never need a second pad.

Haha, wsippel, I think this is the first time I've seen you swear. The Wii U craziness is breaking you!

Mario's right arm is missing it's upper section. Seems like WiiU can't even render complete models.
64 triangles max per drawcall apparently.

This thread is a disaster. A monkey with an empty PCB could build something with more modern architecture.
Ha! Quote of the day for me! ooo oo aaa aa.

Thanks for putting that together. It's so weird what's getting reported. It's almost like two different systems.
Well I bet in a way it was. The ones praising it are top devs who probably have the V4/5 kits and know what they're doing. The ones bitching and moaning about how shit it is are probably on V2 kits and get the new ones handed down to them when Miyamoto's dog has finished playing with it. They're also probably making their games with a Flash game creator.

I see they have a screenshot from a new, Wii U exclusive FPS in that article

The irony is that game is probably more fun than 1/2 the shit released this generation :P

I think that Nintendo is "afraid" of losing ground. Just look at the quick and big pricedrop the did with the 3DS. Look at the case standalone, they could easily afford the 3DS to flop. But doing so, it could mean that their next handheld system would be less popular. At least that is why i think that they chose to do a pricedrop so quick on the 3DS.

If this rumor is true, it would mean that relatively speaking, WiiU will be weaker than Wii was compared to the competition.

Wii was more powerful than the Xbox, so for WiiU to be less powerful than Xbox360, it just seems impossible.

Haha no. It had more RAM yes, but the average XBox games looks better than the average Wii game.

The Wii U is so awsome that dogs all over the world will ditch there owners for gaming!

They fucked up once and lost their undisputed leadership for a decade. I doubt they wanna do that again, no matter how much cash they have.

LTTP but man those posts comparing a tech demo to God of War 3 - a game that came out on the ps3 how many years after launch?

g2Jwr.gif

It doesn't matter, you see to the average person, with modern technology, one should be able to automatically type in a few lines of code and shit out something instantly better looking and funner than any game on any console that wasn't made in the last 1 or 2 years... I mean, that IS how new technology works right? RIGHT?

Yeah you think that would be the case RIGHT???

Problem is developers "develops" a brain freeze after EVERY new console generation, and can barely do games better then the best looking last gen game SADLY.
