The Giant Bomb Quick Look Thread 2

Jeff made me lose all interest in that game. It looked like a major bore.

Yup. I had to force myself to finish the video. So you jump on platforms... and there's puzzles.. and it's 2D pixel art but not. *yawn*

I was really hyped for Fez when it was revealed but now I couldn't be less interested or impressed. I don't think it looks bad mind you, just not interested in it at all from what I've seen. I guess too much time has passed.
 
I don't see why reviewers went crazy over Peggle but then get meh over The Splatters.
I'm sure a lot of it has to do with the barrier for entry. Splatters looks much deeper than anything peggle could offer, but it also looks like it takes much more time to get to that point.
I don't know, but that's what I would assume from the QL.

They have no idea how to play the game. You hit the blob off the wall or ceiling in order to make it splatter on top of the bombs. Don't hit them directly.

The opposite is just as bad where they know the game in side out and they just go through a check-list of talking points an features.
The ones where they are willing to think about if they aren't playing right and then learn to do so are the better ones.

I mean it's one thing to be bad at a game, it's another to be clueless on the basic fundamental concept on how the entire game works.

It would be like going through and playing Fez for 15 minutes without realizing you could rotate the world.
 
Dang, Jeff, you need to do something about that. I spent 5 months working 25 miles from work, and it drove me crazy. I can't imagine doing 40 and in L.A.

I have 2 and a half hours of transit every time I have to go to uni.

It's not that bad.

I used to have an hour and a half bus ride to uni, now it takes less than 20 minutes on bike after I moved. You'd be amazed how much more shit you get done when you don't waste a large part of your waking hours getting from one place to another.

Normally I don't complain, but that seems like the kind of thing you'd let everybody see, unless you're specifically talking about premium features.

But even then, you kind of want to advertise those premium features, don't you?
 
They weren't really talking about the future that in depth. Just generalities.

It's pretty much just another radio dave.

I'd probably waste those time doing dumb stuff like getting a good night's sleep anyway.

I downloaded, played, and deleted The Splatters. Was sure I made a good decision at the start of that Quick Look, and now I kinda really want it.
 
Wait they must be missing something. They didnt include a move list ANYWHERE??? How do you make a fighting game in 2012 and not do that?

Yeah, the art is quite good- the ridiculous boobs don't appear to have compensated for a lack of creativity with actual good character design, at least. I especially like the 30's style cartoon character, and the umbrella lady.

These tutorials seem extensive- not sure if that's a good thing. I guess you need to know all of the Vs. games' quirks, but this seems caught between trying to be a gateway fighter and still being "one of the guys", so to speak.

It's definitely a good thing. No other game has bothered to explain hit-confirms, pokes, mix-ups to me ever. I've always had to learn that shit from SRK or gaf or something.
