Those white blocks were MADE for 3D since day one on the NES
I got nothing else to say but YES

I can't fathom this opinion. Every 3DS screen looks worse to me, both artistically and technically.
I looked him up
Hard to believe someone who worked on the art for Yoshi's Story is the Art Director of the NSMB games
Blech.
Not even thecreatively bankruptnostaglic use of Mario Bros 3 items will make that bland stuff look good. Between this and NSMBMii, I guess 2D Marios are just stuck being as uninspiring as can be.
Looking forward to the next 3D Mario though. Assuming it isn't drained of all life in hopes of making NSMB-like sales.
I don't see what's so hard to believe.
It's not that he couldn't do art like that, it's that it's not a priority for some reason.
A lot of factors could come into play.

Honestly, I think it's because they're trying to protect "the brand" and its identity. With the exception of Paper Mario (and maybe M&L?), they've pretty much kept the art style of Mario pretty consistent across a generation or two.
Galaxy's intros mean nothing, it's not even part of the real game.
It's flash and not substance.
What you posted isn't even an introductory level to the game like in most Mario games.
It does nothing for me, I don't even count it towards anything.
I hope this game has better music than the other NSMB games. I hate those songs with the "Oh! Oh!" in them.
Has an 89 on metacritic and an 8.6 user rating. How is that not good?
Then the parts past that? Are you trying to call those "bland" too? I don't care where you try to say Mario Galaxy starts, whether it's the Star Festival, or waking up on the planetoid IN SPACE, or Good Egg Galaxy, it was anything but bland.
2012: The year where Luigi finally has a better game than his brother.

Are you serious? The game was bland. Hold yourself to higher standards.

I like those. Especially the underwater ones where the Cheep Cheeps do a spin.I hope this game has better music than the other NSMB games. I hate those songs with the "Oh! Oh!" in them.

You know who else got an 89 on metacritic? Hitler.

That could very well be it.

Glad to see flying abilities. The colors also look more vibrant than the other NSMB games.
I forget right now what I was initially replying to but I think I was getting at that the initial levels of Mario games are often boring introductory levels to get the mechanics down.
I think someone mentioned that the screenshot for the new 3DS game was the same world or environment of the past ones, it's obviously intentional.
