Nvidia Kepler - Geforce GTX680 Thread - Now with reviews

Are you guys looking to grab any 680 when it gets available? or are you looking for only certain brands.types. Like only EVGA overclocked one?
I uad the sc signature on auto notify, and in my cart last night. I decided I would not be impulsive this time around like I was with the 7970. Waiting for the 690 hydro copper.

I want an Asus one but can't figure out why they have a price premium on their cards. Still holding out for a 4GB model once they're released.

I am hoping to get a single EVGA signature + 680, and then maybe a second one when the demand slows down/cheaper. But nothing is ever in stock!

Sign up on evga.com, auto notify for the one you want. When you get the email, you have less than 5 minutes to act.

EVGA usually restocks between 6:33 and 6:35EST on weekdays. Newegg restocks several times per day, but it seems they also restock around the same time as EVGA.

On that link to amazon there is one superclocked EVGA that you can order now & they'll ship and charge you when it comes in stock.

Get a lot of Q's regarding temps with air-cooled quad-SLI EVGA GTX 680s...bottom line is it is actually quite good. 61C max after hours of BF3 multi-player at 5760x1080/120hz with 60% minimum fan (and 100% max after 60C to avoid the 70C downclock).

So don't worry about "getting wet" with tri-SLI or quad-SLI as long as you choose the right components. It's not necessary. :)

What if I want to get wet? I want liquid helium cooling! =>

I can't even find 1/4 th of those in stock. :(

I have a preorder in at amazon, but that was Saturday and no news/ship/charge yet

61C...

With Tri-SLI on water, I get 33C under full load. :D Definitely get wet if you get the chance!

Edit: That's with boost clocks hitting 1252 mhz at 132% power.

ain't this a bitch. they all actually went into one computer. lol

what kind of frames are you getting at that resolution? I've never seen a quad sli setup. triple, sure. but quad is new to me.

I actually like it so far. When I play The Darkness II the card automatically downclocks to around 600-700Mhz and still provides 120FPS solid. Then when I fire up BF3 it clocks all the way up to around 1200 with no issue. It's honestly a pretty nice feature.

That very interesting.

any one else here can give more hand on impressions on the GPU Boost feature?

5 days before diablo 3. Where's the charlie sheen winning videos when you need them

a 670 would be overkill for D3, was a bit disappointed with the beta graphics but I understand completely why they have the low res textures and low poly models. (Tons of enemies and effects on screen and tons of loot/gear)

It will run D3 better than my pc does now.

But I don't want a GTX 670 just for D3. I mean, I'm still waiting to play The Witcher 2 because I wanna play it at max settings. And there are plenty of other games I can't run as well as I would like atm. A GTX 670 will fix all of that at a price point I can accept :D

Mmmmm, a 680 at 475 euros....so tempting!

I can still wait a little longer, can't even consider another gpu upgrade before june/july.

Even worse, they're offering a payment plan where you can pay it in June with no interest.

I am too lazy to bother with building one but I found there are a bunch of decent looking BTO build to order sites in Japan...Kepler 680 model available already for about $1500, quad core i7-2700K, 16GB RAM, 2TB...including monitor... http://www.faith-go.co.jp/pc/model/?id=167886 Any comments are welcome, might buy it and get my Steam on

I personally recommend ark, the No. 1 Core-PC-Gamer store in Akiba. They know their stuff, have great prices and their BTO-Options are great and flexible.

Yeah - but let's talk about your performance gain for the price you paid for your water setup. ;)

It's too bad it seems Nvidia neutered OCing so "extreme cooling" like water cooling doesn't reap the same advantages. Plus, the cards have a pretty good thermal profile from the start (especially compared to Fermi).

At 4800x900/120hz (may be off with that resolution - can't recall it exactly) I get 80-90 fps. Just realized late last night that BF3 is still not defaulting to my native res (5760x1080/120hz) - but it did allow me to change. At that point I didn't get to play very much and I was on a laggy server.

How long we'll probably have to wait before the 4GB GTX680?

They are already in the wild, tons of places to order / pre-order them from in Europe. America just seem to be hit with the lack-of-stock stick on everything, so could be from now on and until Christmas.

Well, this is interesting. Yesterday, my 4 year old Geforce 8800GS started overheating so I sent EVGA a request for an RMA. God I love lifetime warranties. Anyway, according to people, chances are, they're not gonna fix my card, but rather just give me a new one to replace it. I wonder what I'll get as a replacement? I'm 100000% sure it won't be a 680, but if only it died later, I might have gotten something from the 600 line.

Well, to be fair, most of the water cooling components I had were from a prior build. When I upgraded to Kepler, I just bought a new case, another radiator, 2 reservoirs, the GPUs/waterblocks, and some quick disconnects.

And I hear you on the neutered OC potential. I was a bit disappointed at first, but then I realized that I can play every game maxed, at over 60fps, and that shouldn't change much anytime soon. I think the low noise and low temps were definitely worth the investment, although I don't think you're one to talk when it comes to cost-to-practical-performance ratio. :D

Here's what we just received from NVIDIA. That's right, a crowbar with the inscription 'For use in case of zombies or ...' Now the speculation machine certainly starts working this way ! It seems something is coming alright. It may be indicating an upcoming GTX 660 / 670 or 690 release or heck another unspecified product.

Don't get your hopes up. I sent in a 8800 GTX and received a 260 GTX in return, this was last summer.

Crowbar, tsk, it's a flat bar dammit :P

But it's still the "It's coming", think it might be a dual 670 / 690 announcement.

It's more about the hobby than it is price:performance. Plus sound, more than anything. When the only moving parts on your system are handpicked low noise fans, it's quite a treat.

The other big benefit is rather than beefing the cards up to the highest levels for benches, you can keep them there 24/7 without worrying about ridiculous noise or high temps.

For sure. I'm with you. It's just my attempt at rallying against the misnomer that liquid is required at 3 or more cards. I mean, I've been there - so I can see why some think it's a requirement. I "inherited" 3x MSI Twin Frozr II GTX 570s in tri-SLI...things were the most unreliable POS'...a) the dude had them in this tiny Antec 300 case (!), b) they were sandwiched so the awesome Twin Frozr II system was just dumping hot air all over their brethren...it was nuts. Got rid of a card and went standard SLI and it was a great performer even in that tiny case. Could even OC like a mofo. I swapped out all three cards in every combo and it was never a bad card - just a bad setup.

So on Saturday I was able to get a "pre-order" a EVGA gtx 680 from Amazon. Nothing has shown up for purchase or that they even know when it will be shipped. You can not even pre-order anymore, it's only "Notify me." Does this mean my pre-order is valid? I am sick of searching for this stupid thing to be in stock. I believe that Evga only makes 2 to 3 a day and call it a night.
