I just think they're handling her story pretty poorly. Four episodes in, three of which consisted of her just waiting around/wandering in the desert (her story wasn't in one episode, right?). There's not much for her to do other than look vulnerable and then toughen up, over and over again.
Her chemistry with Khal Drogo is definitely missed, but even good ol' Jorah (Iain Glen ftw) isn't given much to do.

Dany doesn't really do anything in ACOK until the very end, she only has 4 or 5 chapters so at least they're trying to do something with her in the show. ACOK is all about Tyrion and to a lesser extent Arya (and you could maybe throw Theon in there too). Most of the other characters take a backseat until the towards the end.

It's not that they're handling it poorly, it's that Dany hardly does anything at this point in the story.
Her story is being adapted in a pretty faithful manner. Most main characters have a book where they do pretty much nothing.
not this shit again. I'm not a Dany fan. My atittude towards her through the books has ranged from apathy to frustration to loathing. That doesn't make me a misogynist (not accusing you of saying that, but your post kind of implies it and a lot of people dismiss people who don't like Dany as such).
I love Cat (despite many people hating her), I like Sansa well enough, and Arya is my favorite character in the series.

I don't necessarily get the disconnected feel. While I do understand how you can feel like that, in my opinion it is set up in such a way that while it may be boring with how things appear around her, the idea that we know dragons are back when the rest of the world is kept in the dark about it adds that connection.

I don't really watch TV. And this series is the first time I've actually watched HBO.
I'm watching because I enjoy the books.
The amount of sex in the show is very uncomfortable. Reading and watching are completely different things. It feels like there is a lot more and I don't like it. Like, I seriously feel like I'm watching porn or something in some scenes. It makes me extremely uncomfortable and it's completely unnecessary.
Nudity and sex aren't things I regularly view. Sure it exists in some movies and stuff, but it's one short scene or something. Here, you get multiple scenes every episode. It really feels like sex for the sake of sex. I hate it and I can see myself dropping the show altogether if they keep doing it.
Also, I've never liked Dany. Not in the books and not in the show. And no, I'm not a man so I'm pretty sure gender has nothing to do with it as was suggested in an earlier post. She just spends a lot of time not really doing anything. And a lot of the things she does do seem kind of dumb to me.
It does feel kind of disconnected from everything too. I haven't read ADWD yet (waiting for MMP), but it's been like four books of a side thing that I just feel bummed about reading whenever the chapter comes up because the other stuff is more exciting.

I actually really liked that aspect of the episode. I loved how they focused more on the non POVs and was really indifferent to the major changes. Makes the show truly feel like its own thing and as a reader I think that is great.
We don't want this to be a carbon copy like Gus Van Zant's Psycho remake... The only additions we would have gotten are Loras and Renly sucking each other off...

When you don't have many forms of entertainment, sex becomes a larger part of your life.
On Melisandre: I do not liken her to the people of Westboro Baptist church at all. She actually has hard evidence to suggest that what she believes is true. She can fucking birth shadow babies and see glimpses of the future in the flames. She does not believe on faith alone here. And again, she is a badass bitch. I love her.
On sex: The world of asoiaf is meant to be seen as violent, sexual, gritty, unfair, etc. The nudity throughout the show, along with the violence, simply further shows the realities of this world. I do understand that the general argument is not necessarily with the issue of having to actually view a naked woman, but more that the scenes themselves tend to be a waste of space that could have been used better. Personally, I disagree, and I have absolutely no problem with the amount of nudity on the show. I also find it strange that such a minor complaint has been magnified this much and so much online attention is focused on something as trivial as "excessive" nudity.

There has been no comparison in regards to the female nudity and male nudity on the show. One of the pentor scenes was the big guy that carries Bran around.
Not that I'm cheerleading for more naked dudes, just less pointless sex scenes.
Actually, not really complaining about that anymore. It's just a negative to the show that prevent it from being perfection. Honestly, I haven't had problems with the last two episodes. The nudity in the last show with the hookers was understandable and far from titilating unless you're a perv.

You are correct, to an extent. But certainly it lends credibility to your claim if you can actually do fantastical shit that nobody else can. For example,
so far in the books the only people that can see the future in the flames and bring people back from the dead are followers of the lord of the light... edit: and the White Walkers it could be argued(but the wights seem more like the WALKING dead than actually being brought back to life)

Just wondering, is magic forbidden in the Faith of Seven? It would be another aspect analogous with the Catholic Church. That might explain why the Septons can't do magic...
Another question to think about: Even if Melisandre's powers really do come from her god, how do we know this god really is "good" (whatever that means). Maybe the holy books are just Rhillor's "propaganda"...?

Very true.
For sure, it could certainly still all be false, but she(in my opinion) does hold a little more credibility for her viewpoint than, say, Westboro.
As far as the Septons go,
I'm not entirely sure, to be honest. More than likely it is forbidden, since almost every place on the map has people that can do magic of some sort. The faceless men seem to do magical things, the House of the Undying seemed pretty magical to me, etc.
Magic seems to be "easier" now that dragons have reappeared, as well.

What's the purpose?
I think by now, in the second season, we already get the atmosphere and the sexuality. What purpose does sex scenes every episode fulfill?
It's not even about nudity, though that's uncomfortable. I can ultimately live with it. It's the countless sex that really adds nothing now. I can understand the argument that it's world-building type stuff if it was the first season. But we already get it now.
Some scenes are necessary. Like Dany/Khal Drogo in S1. Jaime/Cersei. Even some of the Theon scenes to establish what kind of person he is.
But all the rest serve what purpose? I honestly don't think the show would lose anything if they weren't there. We all still understand what kind of world it is and whatever information they want to portray can be done in less uncomfortable ways.
It's not "trivial" to me. It's really bothersome and makes me watch the show in ways I don't normally watch things. If you're used to seeing people having sex, then maybe it's trivial. But I'm not. I'm not used to watching other people having sex and when I have to do it, I hate it.
I love the books and I love the other parts of the show. It adds a lot of characterization and stuff for non-POV characters. It's excellent. It's just being ruined for me by sex for the sake of sex.

BTW, I abolutely love Mel's dress. I don't know what kind of fabric did they use, but it looks silky and thin, yet it's actually rather thick.
Maybe you're so uncomfortable with the sex scenes that all you see is just sex for the sake of sex. Most of them have a purpose even if they're just expository.
That's actually my biggest problem with a lot of them. The sex scenes are used to prevent our eyes from glazing over from the expository. I imagine it's what the 3rd person would be explaining in the books and Littlefinger explaining his love for Cat during one of them does not actually add weight to his story.
Plus they're still filmed bad like the director had better things to do.
Although I undstand why they included the Joffrey scene, honestly nothing made him more vile than humilating his future wife in front of her future subjects. I almost wished they had switched it around for the sake of escalation.

The maesters are the magic killers in Westeros. What does book learning do you when you can just magically heal someone up? Magic hinders advancement. I mean, the people on Westeros have been there for like 8000 years or so and they are just now at the middle ages basically. I could be just making shit up but I believe its even hinted at that they were the ones that killed off the dragons.
We don't even know if god's exist. It could just be magic. The people just have to give them some sort of deity to worship.

I'm serious. I want to know. What am I missing in my uncomfortability? And is that meaning not able to be portrayed in a non-intercourse manner?
Because I don't make a habit of looking at others without clothing? Natural human state, etc, whatever. I live in a society where people don't parade around without clothing and so seeing others without clothing isn't comfortable.
