Fun beta overall. The finale was a little weak but was a good stress test for sure. Just think, the next finale event can't any worse than this one as long as there IS a finale...lol

Anyone looking to pass the time on other games, feel free to add "demolitio2" on Steam. I think I'll try LOTRO again since I found a good deal on the expansions.

Added you on Steam, I'll have to find something to play to pass the time until Diablo 3.

PVP was really fun but it's now obvious that GW2 is not designed for 8v8 PVP. It was just too chaotic and not tactical enough. Can't wait for 5v5. That better be in the next beta!

I like this one better. Sorted by achievement points :P

To clear this bit up:

Gear loot drops DO scale to your level when you go back to lower levels, I got a green while in the noob Norn area at level 19 or so. I think coin scales too, but I didn't pay enough attention to that to be sure and those mobs will always drop the same uhh greys items and crafting materials/salvage stuff.

Whoa, crazy.

Here's a super high rez shot of the army of City Guard Giants (forgot their exact name) that Anet spawned that did a bit more damage than the army of previous giants:

Good graphics this game has.
Imgur butchered, but :O

That's great to hear!

Only ventured towards the other races zones by the end of the beta, ran out of time exploring everything :/

Monster design in this game is so good. Between this, FFXIV, PSO2, and Diablo 3, I should be set.

I really like the beat em up aspect too (picking up random steel pipes, branches, barrels, eggs, etc. and having special effects tied to them). Hopefully that ties into boss fights (knocking off a piece of an artificial or mechanical enemy and using it against them for massive damage).

Early cutscenes/story needs abit more flash after the crazy intro. Of course I didnt get the chance to make it to the first actual boss in the human story, which i'm guessing would have been the story mission titled Commander, after the arson stuff.

did anyone else have a problem with the high res screenshot giving strange lines on the picture?

it happens because the game renders the frame multiple times based off your resolution and then sticks it all the shots together (into a 4x4 grid specifically). same reason dof disappears, underwater vignetting and conversation graphics repeat, etc. tiledshots in unreal engine 3 games have the same problem.

Oh wow...so it turns out overflow servers aren't just for your server specifically but the whole world so you can be playing with anyone from anywhere. That would explain why they fill up so damn fast and it's difficult to get into the same one as your friends. Thankfully they're going to fix that for launch and make it so you can join your friend(s) and play together easily.

I had a lot of fun yesterday. I played almost only in WvsW pvp. I was on team green and we did pretty good:

The blues managed to take back a supply camp just before I took the pic, we owned everything in the blue borderlands for 20 minutes or so.

Even though we had been fighting fiercely for many hours, love can still blossom on the battlefield. ;)

It's gonna be a tough wait. I dipped into WvW right in the last couple hours. Big mistake. I just scratched the surface of it and now I can't get it out of my head.

Agreed. Also the weapons and shields have beautiful designs in this game, especially that shield in my pics above.

How big is 'local' for chat? Is it zone wide? Cause generally it felt kinda silent outside of wvwvwvw.

Also, in wvwvwvwvwvw, local also talks to the other teams >.>;

So when a skill says the effect is applied to allies, does it mean anyone nearby, or just people in the same party?

Also maybe I missed out, but were there any really nice instanced dungeons early on in any of the areas? For parties to tackle I mean?

Dueling coming post launch:

Awesome news. Dueling is always fun, even if it can be slightly unbalanced.

Loved the beta. I had really high expectations going in and can honestly say it just about lived up to them. Can't wait to play again, although i didnt manage to join GAF guild this time.

If they keep building nice platforming oriented or deep-sea diving content, we should have alot to do. Also if they have a ton of different armor and weapon models...seeing how the max level will be 80(?)

EDIT: Cant wait to see Sorrow's Furnace 250 years later.

Boons casted that affect others affect anyone around you regardless if they're in your party or not.

Also, just a tip for future competitive PvP.

Have one friend join a server that has enough room for everyone who wants to play. If you go to the contacts list and right click their name you can click Join friend for PvP and you'll be placed on their team.

Over already? I'd thought it'd go on for another 12 hours. I hate time zone conversions...

Anywho, lots of fun, but I my expectations were quickly crushed. Necro and Norn are far less fun than the Charr Elementalist I ended up with yesterday. Tried thief, not really my thing. Only got to fiddle with Mesmer for half an hour or so before I was kicked just now, but I liked how it played.

Some experiences:

The complaint that Norn are sort of boring rang true with me. It's not the scenery or the quests, it's just the feel of the race itself. Yarr, fights, booze, glory! They're so uninteresting that they only feel like oversized, limited humans. And when humans are more interesting than an "exotic" race, something's off.
There isn't a particularly unifying, driving force with them. Most that happens in the Norn area is something they do themselves. The tutorial quest is a challenge Norn organized themselves - I'm thinking, because they were so bored - and even their primary opposing force, the Sons of Svanir, are other Norn. My ratings of fun, story quality and interest went up when I left my Norn behind and made the Charr and human.

Necromancer... I don't know. It needs... more. Weapon skills felt like odd fits together. Couldn't find a weapon combination that had the fun and synergy I was looking for. The pets I bothered with were weak, poor damage, dead in seconds. Found it a pain to manage boons and conditions - somehow they don't last long enough to make stuff like Plague Signet or Well of Power feel worth having on my bar - and the skills that take advantage of them felt too weak. Death Shroud feels like it's too little, as well. Compared to other profession-specific skills, four different skills and an extra health bar didn't feel like it was enough.
I got bored with the whole thing rather quickly, while Elementalist and even Thief entertained for much longer.

Events need some tweaking for them to work while you're alone or with just two people, but they're great fun when strangers just jump in or events simply pop up and everyone rushes over to help.
Conversely, some skill challenges involving mobs actually dying need tweaking to deal with lots of people wanting to do them. Waiting for a respawn with a herd of eager fellow nerds preparing to pounce is not fun.

The overflow server thing needs work. Great that I can keep playing, but not being able to join up with friends I was partied with was a hindrance.

Couldn't figure out crafting. Maybe I started too late with it, because the materials I had gave too high a difficulty, so I had no chance to skill up and make anything.

The trading post worked for the first few hours, but quickly broke for me. Couldn't buy or sell anything after that, but what I managed to glean from it made me happy. Good info, smooth and intuitive interface, quick responses. Looks like a solid tool that I'll end up using a lot.

The positive, though:
I am pleased with what I played so far. Lots of fun. Didn't manage to get past 16 on any toon, but I didn't lack for content. Difficulty spiked in places, mostly because of bugs I think, but I could always find a different place and/or come back later.
The world is beautiful. Surroundings are gorgeous and style is thick everywhere. Animations are fantastic and combat flowed nicely. Moving, strafing and dodging while using skills quickly became second nature and the way my toons animated during it all was a pleasure to see. The little I saw of Lion's Arch during my quest to discover the various professions, races and areas was also very impressive. Divinity's Reach is gorgeous, Hoelbrak is nice, but the Black Citadel has an odd layout and visual I'll have to get used to. The ruined look of their starting area is fantastic, though.

All-in-all, so glad I bought this. Looking forward to what they'll improve in the next beta, and can't wait for release.

Last screen of the beta with the silly moa... Game does look like a painting at times.

Would have loved to find a group to kill this dude. One shotting NPC Charr all over the place haha.

The only GAF group screenshot I have. Wanted to try the dungeon but the entrance was bugged so after a few tries we finally gave up.

DAT art!

Silly blues! Don't you know the Cadarn is hard to kill :D

Such good fun in just one weekend. And now suffering from withdrawal...

Crafting is really easy if you start early. Dunno if jumping in at later levels has an effect on things, but everything was pretty straight forward for me. As a matter of fact, most of the weapons I used were crafted.

On that note, for the first time, I dont think I like the single hand sword and shield with Guardian. Had more fun with greatsword, hammer, and mace & shield. Probably will end up greatsword/mace & shield. Awesome that you can ensnare enemies in divine chains and pull them towards you with the GS.

I'd like some better visual feedback that i'm doing a combo finisher properly though, or at least an indicator that i'm within a field, especially when things get hectic. Didnt get a chance to bar room brawl.
