Slightly off-topic, but the wife is letting me choose our Friday night rental this week(yay!). Trying to decide between Thor and Captain America. Leaning towards Thor because of Portman and Branaugh. Open to suggestions.

Thor is probably the all around better movie. But I think the first half of Cap is better than anything in Thor. They really nailed Caps origin.

Was checking out nearby theater showtimes for Friday and its crazy. The Avengers has at least 1/3 to half of the showtimes at all the theater that are showing it. Gonna be a huge weekend.

Yeah, I love the trailer for Captain America. Specifically him as a skinny dweeb. I liked the first part of Spiderman (the origin part), but disliked most of the rest. Is the rest of Cap not good?

It isnt bad, IMO, it just is a bunch of action scenes in a montage until the last 20 minutes or so.

Choose your wife's preference for beefcake. Evans or Hemsworth.

Just finished watching Captain America for the first time. Why were people so down on this movie? I thought it was pretty great.

Second half was a little rushed yes, but I don't see what they would've gained by dragging it out or shortening the origin part to accommodate a slower second half. Pleasantly surprised especially since my expectations were low.

I need to stop listening to you jokers.

Edit: that post credit scene was arse though.

Yea it was a bitch finding shows in nyc. From as far back as Monday. Had to say f it and see it in Times Square.

I been looking since sunday, and it seems they been adding more and more showtimes as the day nears.

I dont think she knows Hemsworth, but this choice is all mine. Most every movie night is her decision (we base it on who did the most outside of work each week...and I almost always lose since I'd rather play video games than be a good husband =) ). They both look good. I have enough Bing Reward points to get 2 free Redbox rentals, maybe I'll just get both.

Both are important to setting up Avengers. Thor introduces Thor and Loki (the latter being the Avengers villain), while Cap introduces Cap and the Cosmic Cube (important to the Avengers plot from what I gather).

I really enjoyed them both. Thor is more goofy, while Cap is just campy fun but in a good way.

Thor it is then (for Loki). Wow, from watching the trailer I never would have guessed the movie was goofy. I did get that impression from Cap though.

Next week I will see this movie again .. and I will stay till the end of the credits. And THAT SCENE BETTER BE THERE !!!! OR ELSE I .... I ... will ... like ... =/

I liked the goofiness in Thor. I liked how Natalie Portman was like a giggly school girl around Thor, and even in interviews she was a giggly little girl around Hemsworth.

That is what happens when you are in the presence of a god.
Married, straight male here. But if Hemsworth would have me, I would let him. If he wanted my wife, I would feel honored and let him. I am sure she would too.

I went with 3D. Mainly because it has reserve seating and I'm going with a bunch of people. Really don't want to stand inline or have have everyone split up looking for seats.

I called and they're not showing the 2D version. ;_;

Harass them. I asked for weeks about the lack of 2D, and I finally got the general manager of the theater and they added it. At least here it was a case of they were getting the 2D and the lower managers didn't bother to add presales for it, but the GM did.

I'll try that, but I'm seeing it on Friday with some other people, so I might just have to suck it up.

Our midnight shows will probably sell out all 19 auditoriums in our main theatre and I think our satellite theatre is already sold out (5 auditoriums). Ugh.

Anyhoo, this is the best depiction of Hulk yet. He looks...just right. Monstrous, not too goofy.

They only just put the 2D showing up this past Friday for me. Sure, they had stuff on opening day and weekend in 2D before, but there was no midnight 2D until I got a hold of the GM. I came across as kind of an ass, but I complained about how all they were selling was 3D in the reserve seating theater (double surcharge!) and it felt like fleecing. The GM (who just transferred there) said that they ALWAYS did 2D showings of their 3D stuff, so they added it.

The trick is to not be TOO much of an ass, but let them know that they are missing out on sales. Of course, if they are not selling 2D by Thursday, they probably wont be at all. Sadly.

Thanks for the advice! I'll call them up tomorrow.

It probably depends on your age. It's a real throwback.
I love it, but I'm 36 and I grew up watching '50 and '60s epics at matinees in military theaters.

Bleh, the only time all my friends could make it to this weekend was a 3D showing. But I vetoed the hell out of that idea and now we're going to wait until next weekend.

It'll suck having to wait an extra week, but I'm not having my first experience with this be in the 3D.

Who is your choice in beefcake tho? Do what I'd do and pick both heh lol

Some context to that shot, since it's true glory isn't adequately described in a single panel;
