Flame red 3DS surely is as red as it can get. Love that intense color <3

Haha I own the Flame Red 3DS as well! Red contrasting with white and black seems like Ninty's primary colors. It would be instantly recognizable in a store as opposed to the dozens of monochromatic devices out there.

Oh, but of course. Which is part of tne reason why I think we'll see significantly better third-party support in the first half of the generation compared to the second half. Once the PS720 launch, party time is over.

"Not enough hardware" will be right up there with "we can't compete with Nintendo games," even if Nintendo brings out hardware that can technically receive downports.

We will get boned again by the third parties who will try to usee the Nintendo fans to be profitable while not giving us the main titles...

Ubisoft talking about Beyond Good & Evil 2 and Sega talking about Racing games.

THAT SHIT IS JUST EVIL!!!
Nintendo needs to stop doing this at E3

it will be so painful to see multi-colors of WiiU's at E3

just like that Purple Pimp 3DS keeps haunting me

If they try it again, then they can continue to, umm.., struggle, one by one. Let's see how that works out for 'em this time.

"Hey fans! We're gonna tease you with these colors and then not deliver until later in the generation - if at all! Enjoy!"
(sorry.. now when I see stuff like that, I get a bit peeved..)

Could you do a black version?

The more I think about it based on my experience with different colored handheld devices I think black may be best simply for the optical illusions of the screen appearing to be bigger, brighter, and crisper.

While I loved the look of my red DS it made the colors look off and the screen appear smaller to me.

I don't have time to put video game screenshot in various borders so let these suffice for now:

Yeah remember that. Always found weird a few things:
-Voice chat been alluded without needing a headset (expected since the controller has a mic).
-And a few aspects of the touch-pad been "acted" as if it was a capacitive screen (flipping pages with a finger on a resistive screen is not "that fast").

It seems to have a pretty quick response though.

^ NOT MY WORK

Sorry, I meant your silver version (console, game box, and controller) but making it black. I felt silver would be my third choice of a color, but like you after seeing that it doesn't work as well, while the silver console by itself looks good. So I was hoping to see a black version from the same perspective to see if it still holds up. If that's ok with you. :)

Interesting point. I've always felt it was strange that the image seemed better on screens with black bezels, but never really understood why.

Expanding on the silver motif, how would you guys and gals like it if nintendo shifted from the white looking hardware and general designs to this:

Honestly, now that i'm looking at it, i think i prefer white lol.
But there you have it.

I got the LE platinum GC so I would definetly be down for that.

Flame Red for my 3DS as well, love it.

Because it can. Like the PS3, and the Xbox 360. The dashboard will probably run at 1080p, and you'll probably get the odd game that runs at 1080p too. But a vast majority of games wont.

If the next Mario isn't 1080p with fairily good AA at 60FPS you may have my first born child EC.

Yeah, I think it will be quite a while before there are any alternate colors to white. That kinda sucks but I'm certainly not going to wait, so white it is.

If Iwata would announce that "Wii U will launch in all colors currently available for the 3DS" then i would fall off my chair and would be twitching on the ground due to hype overload. ;)

Really sucks to know we won't get any other color besides white at launch. If I had a choice I'd go with Platinum or Green. If they're going to only release one color at launch they should just hold back teasing us with multiple colors like they did with the Wii.

Same. I am so convinced that there will only be one color that I would flip if they announced multi.

Yea if I see them pulling that bull like they did this gen I'm done with third parties I'll stick to Nintendo.

That's what is great about the Wii U threads, it goes from specs, games, release dates, online feature, and then back to just talking about colors.

hmm, the controller looks iffy (my fault), but i kinda like it.

Blue and black works rather well for the game box IMO

Looks better than silver that's for sure. Love the console with the blue tray. This also bolsters my preference of matte black over glossy black when looking at the controller.

Thanks for that. :)

Unless certain things have improved, I wouldn't make that bet if I were you.
Slightly improved from SMG level models and appropriate shader stuff shouldn't be too huge of a hassle. EADTokyo is great with tech, but they aren't exactly bad designers. They'll use where appropriate, and if 1080p, 60fps, and AA are a focus they'll design the game under those limitations. They made a Wii game look "next-gen" they'll be able to make a WiiU game look incredible under whatever constraints exist.

I'm not sure if it will be a focus, but if it is, it'll happen and it will look awesome.

I'm not the type to bet though. And firstborns are valuable because you never know if you'll have another.

When it comes to color, i think Nintendo unterestimates the demand for different colors. Alot of people would like their console to match their 3DS color...

Yeah, and a lot of people get bugged with the colors of everything in their entertainment center, or just the way the room looks. I also think Nintendo fans in particular are the types to get into stuff like colors. I do remember Iwata or Miyamoto saying when the Wii launched that their studies showed your better off just releasing white as it's the safest bet or something, so I'm sure that means no multi till a year+.

>__> but I want my 1080p Mario. Can they not just recycle the galaxy engine?

The engine wouldn't really be the issue. But if you were making a new SMG game exactly as it was for Wii, just with those additions you should be able to pull it off. But I would hope they would improve the texture quality as well. But like I've mentioned before my knowledge on Wii U was more in a "final" context and what the final is going for (at least at that time) wasn't 1080p/60 w/AA.

Right, but the possible hardware constraints don't reach that level.

I hope the controller design isn't final. I remember the Wii Remote changed before launch.

The initial press shots showed a rectangular power button, no speaker, and a massive nunchuk connector...

wii_remote_1.jpg

Hopefully they can make some refinements... the Wii U controller could well be comfortable, but it just doesn't look cool enough. Trouble is, that Wii Remote prototype looks cooler than the final version (huge connector aside)... so maybe it'll get worse... :(

I hope they will have good online on Wii U.

My XBL account has just been hacked. Those FIFA playing moutherfuckers, thank god I called Microsoft and they deactivated the account for now.

Even still, I wouldn't expect a Mario game to be very graphically adept. The artstyle of such a game would carry the visuals far enough to compensate for gpu intensive effects which would give EAD much need breathing room, correct? Eh, no matter, you're in a position to be a much better judge than I. I'm sure we shall see what happens in the coming months.

If it's EAD Tokyo, expect nothing less than a graphical showpiece. The Mario Galaxy games are absolute marvels given what they're running on.

Unless we're talking NSMB here, totally 1080P with 4X FSAA all the way.

For 3D Mario, I think Nintendo's focus is on performance, not super minimalist graphics for maximum clarity and performance (this has been the focus of Mario Kart). Galaxy 3, or whatever Nintendo is cooking, will probably perform similarly to Galaxy and at 720p. And it will, of course, make crazy good use of the hardware available for really big things.

I hate to say stuff that might come across as snide and condescending, but Nintendo-only gamers who don't buy other systems really wont know what hits them when it comes to the Wii U. It's a scary awesome new world for Nintendo's IPs and pretty exciting. If they deliver game engines and assets that make excellent use of the hardware, you're going to see Metroids, Marios, Zeldas and more looking like nothing you've seen before.

Sadly, in the five shots released back in E3 2011, it runs at 1280x720 with no AA. :I

I'm curious to see how NSMB Mii ends up looking. As much as I hate the art direction, I don't expect it to look like last year's demo. That was using assets ripped straight from NSMB Wii. It would be tremendously disappointing if that's how the game looked, and it ran at 720p with no anti-aliasing :/.

Nintendo was so wrong for that... They come out with a black console and tease more colors. One year later the damn thing is white (thanks a lot Apple) and that's all it would be for years. I was hoping they would have changed their approach with the Wii U but here we are...

I was Nintendo only this gen. I played plenty of 360 games at a friend's place, but he has an SD TV usually covered in a thick coat of dust, and doesn't really play the visually best games (it's basically been wrasslers and RE5), so I will probably get something in the way if a surprisejolt.

Yea I think people are really underestimating the level of visual quality to be seen with this new hardware with Nintendo IPs. Third parties will look like third party games but Nintendo first party titles are usually always on another level when it comes to taking advantage of the hardware.

Considering Nintendo said the shell we saw at E3 was a prototype, a redesign is more than likely.
Oh good they said it was a shell..I mean the WiiU we see now it looks alright but it just looks too damn boring looking.

So how much bigger of a jump from the Wii is the Wii U compared to how big of a jump the Wii was from the GCN? I assume it's substanial.

I've said similar things as EC. I think a common mistake is to assume that Nintendo games in HD will look like dolphin games, which isn't true at all.
