I was Nintendo only this gen. I played plenty of 360 games at a friend's place, but he has an SD TV usually covered in a thick coat of dust, and doesn't really play the visually best games (it's basically been wrasslers and RE5), so I will probably get something in the way if a surprisejolt.

Oh Day Of Reckoning. How i miss thou. That franchise kicked SvRs behind to the moon and back gameplay wise. Was well worth sacrificing some content over the magnificent gameplay!

So how much bigger of a jump from the Wii is the Wii U compared to how big of a jump the Wii was from the GCN? I assume it's substanial.

The Wii is a souped up GameCube with a motion controller. It's stronger, but ancient technology under the hood. The Wii U is a proper full generational leap, and then some. The difference is massive.

I've said similar things as EC. I think a common mistake is to assume that Nintendo games in HD will look like dolphin games, which isn't true at all.

Exactly. If people think 1080p Dolphin Galaxy looks good (and it does), they're going to be floored by the Wii U. A Galaxy-esque game with the Wii U's processing power would be unbelievable, and would mop the floor with the two Wii iterations.

This is why I think it will be rather easy for Nintendo to "win" E3 and generate some real excitement, assuming they have at least one showcase title of one of their IP's ready to show off. Hell I remember when gaf was excited for Other M and Galaxy 2- I don't think it takes that much to get the juices going with Nintendo stuff. Again, this is assuming Nintendo has something ready to show that is really impressive graphically.

I'm still at that point where I personally cannot even imagine how a Zelda game on the WiiU will look. Not even that demo is enough to give me an idea. I can't imagine what the outside would look like, dungeons, etc...

That's how you know things are going to be crazy, also the reason I want to jump back to Nintendo this generation despite being a playstation-er this past generation, it's a new era. Don't want to miss it.

1) Price? $299.99

2) Release date? November 18, 2012

3) Bullshit xbox360-based Multiplier Equivalent? 2.5x

4) Nintendo conference surprise(s)? Retro's game.

5) Predict Miyamoto's role/costume/appearance context in this year's show. Dressed as Reggie or Iwata.

6) Any special MS or Sony predictions? I can see MS teasing about their new console. Sony will probably show new ways of playing games just like the PS Move.

7) You know we're going to hear some, umm, interesting excuses from third parties. So.. what'll be your favorite?
We haven't come up with ideas that utilize the Wii U controller.

8) Any special E3 plans/arrangements of your own? Taking off from work? Nothing special! I'll have food though. :P

9) Your favorite bullshit gaming media critique of Nintendo's performance at E3 this year? Too many kiddy games.

10) Your own predicted complaint/peeve/angering issue regarding Nintendo's E3 performance this year? Lack of Third Party support. I hope I'm wrong though.

If the GC to Wii was a drop of water, the Wii to Wii U would be the ocean.

Great comparison

Seeing Nintendo games in HD is the most exciting thing I can think of right now. I mean.. just look what they scratched out of the Wii with Galaxy and Skyward Sword.

Plus I still remember being blown away when I saw Super Mario Galaxy running at 60FPS. Back then I didn't know anything about 30/60 FPS but I felt the fluidity. I hope they keep 60FPS as a Mario game standard. Zelda doesn't need 60 FPS in my opinion.

Forreal Ive been thinking up so much shit its crazy even little shit like grass..grass will be grass no texturized mess, yay!

Oh good they said it was a shell..I mean the WiiU we see now it looks alright but it just looks too damn boring looking.

Agree.
it looks boring and lifeless in terms of asthetics
looks like a fat Wii lol
Not holding my breath tho
I'm not expecting huge changes so I won't be dissapointed.

Funny... with Nintendo a lot of fans rather being pessimistic and expecting the worse than
waiting for something good that can please them.

Oh well :P

Hey EC, i have 2 or 3 bombs that i've kept because i thought they worth their own threads (and some others less important that i'll post here), i wanted to create them if i become member before E3, do you think it will be possible, with a lot of forewords/warnings (as usual), presentation of the context of the data, links to my introduction/justification/legitimation of my info by a confirmed-by-mod dev, etc ? And i'll do another effort to legitimate me & my news before (well, we can talk about it in private).

Are you going to include your patented circle argumentation in these threads as well? How about the Absurd Vagueness (TM) of most of your posts?

IdeaMan's posts are like the forum equivalent of cold reading.

Funnily enough, as true as this is, it's also my biggest worry. Looking back to at the start of this generation and you see the same stuff you see at the start of every generation: developers fumbling as they try and get used to the tech. As always, the best looking games come later on in a system's life, when developers understand the tech and can better optimise.

This is Nintendo's entry into this level of technology, and though I expect they're preparing the best they can, I hope they can avoid launch title-itis. Because, fact of the matter is, it's going to be hard to take launch title games with hardware growing pains and put them up against heavily optimised graphically demanding games like God of War: Ascension and Uncharted 3. Or even Halo 4.

It's easy to say that Nintendo has the skills and talent to do it, but the proof will be in what the show. I hope they can do it, because the hardware obviously will allow them to. Their biggest hurdle will be jumping into the deep end, and not going through the same learning process that everybody else did years ago.

Yeah, this. Zelda as it is, even at its best, is very economic with hardware. What the Wii U will bring to the table will let the team add a ridiculous amount of extra detail to environments.

Yeah I feel the same way. I had a Wii, and loved SMG, TP and a few others, but the PS3 was definetly first this-gen with the 360 in second, and the Wii a distant third. I have always been a big Nintendo guy so imagining the Wii U being able to be up near the top of my console play-time list has me pumped. I didn't hate the Wii, but it was definetly my least favorite Nintendo console, I ended up skipping games like Animal Crossing a franchise I adore, with the Wii U I know that won't happen again.

I've never understood the desire for "cool" looking consoles.

Its a piece of electronics! Do a lot of you actively search out sweet space age looking dvd players? To me a console is just a box I put a disk in and it shoots magic out to my eyes via the tv. I don't stare at the console giggling while I whisper how awesome it looks to myself.

I wan to see what it looks like in tan.

BELIEVE!!!

Will it? Even 360/PS3 games still have messy textures on a lot of things.
We shall see though. I full expect Nintendo games to look unbelievable, though.
yeah but I mean the utter flatness that are currently in nintendo games won't be there. Also much more RAM should help. Pic above just shows that monolith is going to make something beautiful as well, if they managed that.

.

It's happened before. SSBM and Rogue Leader are two of GC's best looking titles, and they came out right in the launch period.

True- I'm not necessarily talking about a title ready for launch though. We'll see- I have faith that at least one of Nintendo's internal teams will have something ready to show that will rock some socks.

Does anyone know what happened to cyberheater?

We have an avatar bet going for E3.

About the bet:

IF theres ONE game for Wii U at E3 that looks distinctivly better than ANYTHING on PS360 (You have to see that its not possible on PS360), cyberheater is supposed to get an Iwata Avatar and has to replace the millions of "Xbox" (Anf the one PS3) in his status to "WiiU" and if there not one game that looks better, i am supposed to take his "WiiU on par with PS360" (Or whatever is written on it) avatar.

So what happened to him? haven´t seen him in quite a while.

I remember him being around and being pretty negative about the Wii U. I'm not sure, but I think I saw banned under his name at one point, I could be wrong, or he could be unbanned but gun shy now.

1) Price? $349.99

2) Release date? November 16, 2012 because it's my birthday (and Miyamoto's birthday too ;D )

3) Bullshit xbox360-based Multiplier Equivalent? 4.5x

4) Nintendo conference surprise(s)? GTA V -timed- exclusive expansion. GTA V 3DS Spin-off. collaboration between Nintendo + Capcom (it's not a fighting game)

5) Predict Miyamoto's role/costume/appearance context in this year's show. OLIMAR

6) Any special MS or Sony predictions? Sony will show they super innovative -new- tablet controller.

7) You know we're going to hear some, umm, interesting excuses from third parties. So.. what'll be your favorite?
We won't publish X game on Wii U because no

8) Any special E3 plans/arrangements of your own? Taking off from work? Will skip classes :D

9) Your favorite bullshit gaming media critique of Nintendo's performance at E3 this year? Games looked like gamecube games, nintendo should make games for iOS

10) Your own predicted complaint/peeve/angering issue regarding Nintendo's E3 performance this year? Smash bros. will come in at least 3 more years :(

I agree, and I hope they can follow up with something similar. I totally expect Pikmin 3 to be a Wii-ish looking game, but they should have something that really pushes the system.

Well, there it is. He has been around forever he just doesn't average a ton of posts, and considering he isn't a Nintendo guy he probaly just hasn't been around these parts. I do feel like he was banned at some point though, who knows he has a different avatar then I remember, so maybe I saw someone take his old one and they got banned for something.

I'm pretty blown away how games like Dark Souls looks for an open world game with tons of things going on in the world. Even skyrim looks quite good, not as much stuff going on in it to me but still looks great. I use those as examples because they're open world and still manage to look great. Now imagine what a game like Mario could potentially look like...which isn't really open world and has a console that is stronger than last generation...

....it was a trick question. You can't picture it. No one can :P

You should see my Xbox 360 slim Halo Reach Edition.
