I've been splitting my gold upgrading the blacksmith/jeweler, stash upgrades, and AH. My friends think crafting is useless with the AH... eh, I feel like it would be stupid to neglect upgrading it. Am I stupid for thinking so?

I'm joining public games for NM Act II and I'm surprised how many people out there suck. I'm a WD and I've been paired up with every class, yet they die first during boss battles. I mean... WD isn't bad but you shouldn't be dying before I do. -____-

You definitely should upgrade your Blacksmith/jeweler at some point, but doing it on the first run is maybe not the best option.

Your blacksmith is your only way to get items above your level, but it is so random that it's not really reliable.
As stupid as it will sound for many (including me), the AH will be a more reliable way to get better gear for your money.

I personally think upgrading the Blacksmith is a complete waste of time. Unless you get super lucky with the items, you'll never make back the money you spent upgrading it, let alone profit.

Jeweler on the other hand is marginally useful, not as much with commodities being disabled, but when they're re-enabled you can make profit off high end gems.

Randomly checked a merch in act2 nightmare and he was selling 10-16+damage rings with mfind and int bonus. That's like the best item yet for me so I bought a bunch of them and put them to AH.

I made about 50K reselling from that dude. He has amazing shit.

Hey guys, I'm currently a DH on Nightmare at
Belial
. Had two attempts but didn't beat (that was all I could stomach), and it made me realise I was spending so much time hitting the
snakes
. I'm level 42 and my DPS is only like 950, and I'm still squishy as hell :\

Any build tips? Or am I hitting the auction house for sweet loot?

Did I miss something?
Went to sleep had 50k or so gold (level 30) and i wake up, and I have 2800.

?

Likely hacked.

We'd need a better idea of your gear and what abilities you're using.

Sounds like you're a bit under geared. Might be worth it to at least look at upgrading your weapon(s) - made all the difference to my WD.

Yup. The final non-recipe items cost 50K to make and it may spit out an item with crap modifiers for your character and any other character.

Get +discipline items. Shadow Power whenever he
Meteors
. Use tactical advantage so that you can actually move pretty far per Shadow Power. If you can't get to that part then you need better loot.

It's really just a fight to manage shadow power if you're geared properly.

All my gear and gems are there, just down to 2k gold instead of 50k. doesnt seem worth it lol

They probably leave a little bit so you think you've just spaced off how much you had or something. Most players would have far more, so you can see why'd they do it.

Get authentication on your accounts people. It's free.

Shit, just checked my friends list under recently played, and theres 3 characters I've never seen before in my life. Must have been compromised. What do I do to fix this?

how?

nvm figured it out took like 5 seconds. what a worthless post this was

Echoing getting demolished by Act II boss. Took out my Diamond Skin with one meteor.

I was like, "I'm just gonna chill here. What? I'm naked. Oh shit! *dead*"

Still using Act 3 normal armor lol

Yeah that was my thinking too. I know the Jeweler will be useful later on. My thought process with the blacksmith is when I create a second character, or, when I have ingredients to use-- see if I can make something useful and if not, sell in AH. Iunno... I feel like it's there for a good reason. =d

What merch are you guys talking about? Need to get in on this.. =D

Fellow level 60 Wizards: Have any of you been able to push your damage past 30,000? If so, how are you doing it? I spent some quality time looking through the auction house and it just feels like there aren't all that many better items (intelligence) out there. and those that are out there require some substantial cut on Vitality or are like 3 million (lol). I like damage as much as the next guy, but it feels like I'm getting close to the upper limit of options.

I guess I could try investing in upgraded gems, but I don't know how much perfect/radiant squares even cost.

Maybe I should...bah. I don't know.

Oh, and Diablo on Hell was cake with my build. The entire Hell difficulty became just something to do. I don't think I died to any boss once. :-/

Here's hoping Inferno presents a challenge for my build.

which boss is this?
is that Belial?

also, upgrade your shit.

I have 1100 dps in act 4 of normal with lvl 31 DH so yeah you need to spend some time digging AH for good items.

I usually filter for DEX+VIT or DEX+INT combo items preferably with other usefull bonuses like attack speed or life leech or increased critical chance.

All that nice gear costed me <150k gold.

Ok, so getting an Authenticator, but this doesnt make me feel better about my computer. I dont get how it can be a virus/keylogger. this machine is pretty much freshly formatted, and all its done is DL updates, play D3, and post on here.

Nothing else seems to have been affected, is there any consensus on how theyre doing this?

Managed to beat the Butcher on Inferno. Popped Serenity at the last second along with BoH and managed to get a few more hits in to seal the deal.

So yeah, fuck you Blizzard with your stupid enrage timers.

AH can be some fun metagame in itself.

Blizzard is really amazing.

I'm not going to lie, I think I got to a point in WoW where being a profession/auction house baron is more fun than raiding (over a long period of time.) For shorter bursts of fun, a cohesive raid group is still where it's at.

The AH is Diablo III is sort of bewildering to me though - you can't use the same strategies at all really, due to the nature of the items. The randomness is a big part, but aside from that, there really is a much smaller range of the types of items available to sell without a big consumable or profession market, among other things. (I primarily made my gold in WoW dealing with gems, enchants, and potions, in addition to flipping all sorts of things rather than big ticket weapons/armor. Mostly commodities there, whereas the commodity market here is sort of crazy with the pooling system.)

couldn't you find a weapon with a slot in it for a sick gem? also i think if you are going to craft high level gems, like the stars, its just cheaper to make them yourself than to buy them on the AH

What spells are you using? Im just finishing up Nightmare now. Normal > Nightmare early chapter was a nightmare for me but i currently have 11k health so im quite tanky now.

I've got a system worked out. Buy crap that people undervalue by a ton, and sell it for much more.

It's working well so far.

There's no real way to carves out niches though, like you would with a typical market, since the auction house is so vast (being region-wide) and you can't possibly be aware of every type of item. You just kind of have to hop in the blood bath and hope for the best. There's not much in the way of strategies to leverage beyond "buy low, sell high", which can be difficult in itself with the way the filters work.

On four separate occasions earlier I managed to catch some really great items on the AH that just seemed to get buried. >4 with really low bids, twice I managed to bid on things when they were down to less than a minute and twice did the person with the original bid panic and hit the buyout button. Went from around 100g on a bid to paying the full 100k buyout. Made me laugh. Other two times I was able to steal away some severely undervalued armor that was just put up as I refreshed. I kind of wish there were achievements related to hustling the AH.

G'morning D3GAF... time to headbutt myself into a wall for another day.

This is what 60-70% magic find got me in normal mode.

I'm not wearing the magic find gear anymore, because it apparently did no good, and I'm dying a lot in DPS gear.

So, I don't see how we are not forced to use AH.

Change your head socket with +% life (purple if I remember well) for survivability.
I don't know much about Monk but for your lv and the raw dps of the weapons you're wearing I think your dps is definitely too low. I guess you lack +base dmg increment trinkets, and probably also some % attack speed trinkets (beside weapons they're the only pieces of gear where you'll see those kind of stats). You'd be surprised to see the dps increment with those changes (all dmg multipliers are applied after the added increments on base dmg, so +dmg% from dexterity boosts it a lot).
Yesterday halfway through the first act in NM I dropped what seemed to be a mediocre bow and found an apparently silly ring. I noticed equipping both my dps went up of about 650 XD Sitting at 1500+ dps at lv 38 now at the beginning of the 2nd act.

People make it really easy. They dump stuff worth hundreds of thousands of gold for twenty, thirty thousand.

People will get smarter (I'd hope) but it's fine for now.

Let me say this up front: I'm a stick-and-move kiting Mage.

My left and right click are the Piercing Orb and Celestial Orb**.

I'm also using Spark Flint* (+12% damage), Magic Weapon (+15% damage), Arcane/Lightning Hydras, and Diamond Skin.

*I will switch out Spark Flint for Teleport or Archon if/when necessary. **You won't have Celestial Orb for a long time, but the regular Arcane Orb + damage is just terrific.

That said, I prefer this build because it allows me to "fire & forget". I can drop my Hydras, then proceed to kite any and everyone. shoot primary/secondary, take a few steps away from the enemy and repeat. And both my secondary and primary attacks are well suited for that style. I don't use any spells that force me to remain stationary, as Wiz's HP drops faster than a paid hooker's skirt.

Once you get Celestial Orb, you're going to find yourself simply laughing at the damage done to groups.

"Killed 24 in a single blow" is something you'll see regularly. It's like bowling.

It's pretty hard to find weapons with over 990 dps WITH a slot. They're just low in number. I got mine for 90k, which I know was a ridiculous deal. The ones with a slot are either (a) of lower dps (usually in the 800-900 dps range) @ 100k-200k, or are extremely expensive (500k). I'm not interesting in spending 500k-1m for any weapon that I've seen so far. The strongest 2h weapon I've seen so far was only 180dps stronger than the mace I'm currently using, and the actual damage range maybe only 200 damage stronger either way.

In other words, gains I've seen are somewhat negligible for the asking prices. Now, if I spot an 1100dps weapon for 200k, I'll buy it in a heartbeat. But 1 mill? Not sure the cost/benefit is in my corner on that one.

Hardcore is how this game is meant to be played. Oh my god.

Though at this stage you are likely to die to the most nefarious evil of them all - the dreaded Lag Demon. Modifiers include jailer and teleporter. Nightmarish trait has high chance to strike human player directly. Rage-and-break-shit to follow shortly thereafter.

Why would you ever take a 2 handed weapon that does about 40 damage when you have 2 1-handed weapons that do 30 damage each? Would you guys take the 2 handed weapon or the 2 1-handed ones?

Also I'm a barb, should I primarely focus on adding strength or damage to my items?

What annoys me the most is that I play as monk and I read all the shit that happens with monks in Inferno.. seriously, I sometimes wonder why I should continue playing if the last part is just a clusterfuck for my class. :/

Wife got hacked.

Set a much more secure password and got an authenticator; and of course blizz couldn't do a restore of any sort.

Thankfully I'm sure the hackers got a ton of stuff off her level 29 ass /smh

This is why you have a fucking authenticator like everyone told you to!

Does anyone pick up the vender trash? i.e. non magic items?

I used to, but not anymore. Just gems and potions now, ignore the rest.

Don't salvage items, don't bother making items until you're 60, sell everything. You'll get tons of gold.

Very odd. Got the latest drivers? Nothing else running in the background that might affect it? My frame rate has remained at 60 at all times.

I've got the latest drivers. I've settled on turning it to 4x AA but I found that the framerate ran very smooth and steady if I didn't touch the Anisotropic Filtering option. I put the texture quality on high quality, though.

I was exaggerating a bit on how bad it was running, but there definitely was a "jittery" kind of feel to just walking around that was really annoying me. I still am not sure why I wouldn't be able to max out this game with 16x AA since I can run Mass Effect 2 and 3 on max settings with 8x AA at 60 FPS no problem.
