[MS-Conf] Forza Horizon - E3 2012 trailer

It didn't help that Greenawalt was driving like an idiot. You would think he would want to show off the new handling, or the off-roading, or the sense of speed. Instead he kept randomly stopping and spinning for no reason.

I know he only had a few minutes but that was a waste of time lol.

Anyway, i'm sure we'll see better videos over the next few days..

At first blush, Horizon fares decently in comparisons with other open-world racers like Burnout Paradise and Test Drive Unlimited 2. Though it doesn't have the massively multiplayer functionality of the latter, all events can be played competitively online, and you can likewise hook up with friends to tool around Colorado in a spot of free-roaming action. Exploration will be rewarded with collectable barn finds: rare classic cards waiting to be discovered and restore. Asynchronous multiplayer--the lure of the leaderboard and friend stat tracking--features as well, appearing in the shape of speed trap-like points that capture and compare you and your offline friends' speeds as you whiz through.

When was the last time we had a racer that brought sim-style handling and physics to open roads?

Ever?

I'm very intrigued.

This.

Open world with some of the best physics out there should get any driving fan excited. I can understand that the music festival aspect isn't everyones cup of tea. I'm not really a fan of it myself, but just being able to have my own tuned and personalized car blasting down open roads sounds amazing to me.

Don't know where you guys are getting sim style physics. That looked pretty damn arcade-y to me.

i gotta say, seeing dan cruising around, with the festival way off in the distance, was cool. even cooler was seeing him drive up to it. i wonder if that is how you'll interact with the social aspects and car porn, via the festival hub?

I thought it was confirmed that this is using the physics engine from FM4? I'm guessing it's got assists just like FM4 for the casual players. Would seem stupid not to have the same level of simulation as FM4 when they have access to it.

First facts ahead E3 2012

- Forza Motorsport 4 physics optimized for off-road
- 65 grounds like mud, gravel, grass, tarmac etc.
- reduced damage
- open world with dynamic day/night
- colorado environment/panorama with detailed foresight
- festivel with a huge drivable area and car service stations, paintshops, car dealers etc. on it
- events like mustang vs. mustang or racecar vs. jet

Interesting to note, during the rally bit of the trailer, the Lancer driver had a helmet on. Not sure if it was there during the road bits, though. And the environments look VERY PGR4. Which is a good thing.

Weird that they only had Turn 10's Twitter account at the end of it, though. You'd think they'd be ready to hand the reigns over soon enough.

And during that Spike run, the god rays. Oh, the god rays. Damn.

I am guessing that, even though Playground is developing it, Turn 10 will still be in charge of all the PR and such. Probably to help cut down on confusion regarding the name and such.

Having just seen the Most Wanted gameplay footage from the EA conference, FH really needs to wow me to keep my attention.

When are they gonna show it being played?

they already did, see screen caps and (processing) youtube video above. sure we'll see quite a bit from the show floor as well

The Run's selection was a joke, then again that whole game was a joke...
Hot Pursuit had a great Porsche selection. Since it's another Criterion NFS, I expect nothing less.

I really hope for a lengthy video for Horizon, I want them to showcase the core of the game.
At the moment it looks like a pretty mix of several games to me.

That most wanted footage was really good, but then it's so arcadey and over the top to only be a distraction.
If Horizon keeps the Forza feel and I can cruise around with a friend and have some races then this game is for me. I never really enjoyed racing circuits that much but I love cars and good driving physics.

Waitasec - has cockpit view been confirmed? No cockpit view and I'd be a sad Nullpointer.

I am pretty sure someone posted an article that said there are cockpit views. It wouldn't really make any sense to NOT have them considering they are already modeled and finished from FM4.

I am just really excited about this game because I love just cruising around an open world on actual roads. There is just something immensely satisfying about screaming down a road in a modified 1000HP Ford GT while weaving in and out of traffic. It just feels more interesting than racing on an actual course. That is why I am most excited.

Plus I hope they stole the "battle" system from Tokyo Xtreme Racer. Can you imagine how awesome a 20 minute race through all the roads would be just because the cars are so closely matched? Constantly in and out of the lead while trying to avoid traffic, all with Forza 4 graphics and handling? Goddam!

I thought that too for dirt showdown but there is no cockpit views in that game at all, and codemasters love their cockpits.

2010?

over 100km of road/offroad to race about on against 7 other players.

Is that the first TDU? I have heard good things about it and picked up the second one to check out. That was a mistake bc it was complete and utter shit. How is the first one? Does it hold up and would it be worth grabbing now to "prepare" for Horizon?

Are you serious?? Why would they leave out cockpits they already had finished? That game sounds worse and worse the more I hear about it!

well, theres a lot of new cars in that, so its a different situation. but yeah, disappointing.

That trailer with Chevelle "A New Momentum" playing in the background was amazing timing on my Rdio mix. :) Looks good.

Seems like they did some focus tests to see what some people want and then made that game.

OH WAIT.

Focus tests are stupid and MS was stupid to listen to them.

Fuck, I really need to work on appreciating this game for what it is, and get beyond my indignation and disgust about an arcadey dubstep dudebro cash-in shitting all over the Forza name.

It's gonna be tough, though.
