IIRC, Microsoft actually own the kudos system from PGR.

Seeing that the 250 TR is in, I'm now praying that Playground Games will allow me to cruise in a 1962 250 GTO...

I was going to said that then I remember that most of the dev team came from Codemaster and Bizarre creation.
And I didn't even say that as a snide comment. The idea of a proper racing game with PGR scoring and updated graphics (not that PGR4 looked bad in any way) truly is a winning formula for me.

Unfortunately the 360 is dead for me and since this game won't be multiplatform, I am going to pass. I borrowed my new Elite Xbox to a friend about five months ago and I presume it redringed a long-ass time ago already.

Wait... are people still thinking this ISN'T an arcade racer?
Doesn't getting points for smashing picnic tables kinda give it away?
FM: sim
FH: arcade

e3 FH rep (dev?) "if you are an expert on these racing sims, you can knock off all those assists and have as an authentic and realistic simulation as you like."

i know it goes against all logic to have both fh and fm4 both be sim (or more arcade with all assists on), but thats what they are saying. we also know for a fact its built on top of the fm4 physics engine.

FM: sim motorsports
FH: sim "action" racer

smashing through shit doesnt mean that the cars cant behave realistically.

I totally agree, but whatever they do with the handling FH is still intrinsically going to be an arcade game at heart. An arcade game with a sim-like handling option MAYBE, but any game that rewards you for driving through fences etc is pretty much self-defined as an arcade game, surely..?

I'm not saying it's a bad thing - some of my favourite racers are arcade games - but any claims that FH is in any way a sim are surely ill-judged on that basis alone?

Yep, I don't think anyone is saying that it's a sim. They are saying that the physics/handling is simulation based in an arcade style game..

Yeah, the seem to be really keeping a lot of the info to themselves for now. I am curious if they are waiting for a certain event for a blow-out, or if they just want to trickle the information to us over the next 4.5 months.

They will trickle like a motherfucker for no reason just like 4.

They'll definitely trickle that shit. Even Dan said that's the way they were going to do it.

BADNED said that Ekberg visited Playground Games and will be featuring a video about it.

There's a LOT of cars. I can't give a number now, but it's huge selection. All road cars this time, no pure race cars like in Forza. They're an eclectic mix, cars you'd take to a festival.

150-200?

You can switch off traction control, ABS, set steering to Simulation, and that experience will be as real as you can get

Didn't want to bring up its absence for fear of it not being in the game. I feel better now :)

FM4 is roughly at 640 cars with all DLCs at the moment.
Removing all race cars and track-only cars (Zonda R, FXX, etc...) would probably remove 100-150 cars already.
Then you can probably trim another 100-150 by removing all the irrevelant (for FH) cars like the Pinto, Corvair, Micra, C1, Leaf, etc...
If Porsche is out, then that's another 30 cars removed.
They'll probably further trim the car list by removing less popular versions of some cars like some of the older M3/M5 or Skyline.
On the other hand, I expect the roster to be up to date with the latest cars fitting the bill like the F12 Berlinetta, hopefully the FT86 if the Sony exclusivity runs out, etc...

So personnaly, I'm betting on 300-350 cars in the game.

Edit : I wish someone would make a video with all the assists turned off...

they've built hundreds of miles of open road in a fantasy version of Colorado. "It's like a mix tape," says Greenawalt. "It's got red rocks and mountains and rivers and tonnes of diversity all squeezed into one area."

"You won't believe the views in Colorado," says Fulton. "We knew we had to invest a lot in the technology to bring those vistas to life. Now, if you've played Forza 4's Bernese Alps track you'll be no stranger to great vistas, but the difference in Horizon is that if you can see it, you can drive it. We had to create what we call 'Uber LOD' tech for the game to draw twenty kilometres into the distance while retaining the high fidelity world."

Horizon's Colorado is home to mile-long curves, off-road dirt tracks, jaw-dropping elevation changes, and the Horizon festival - a racing/music event in the heart of the state where you can paint your car, buy new ones, or enter events. The Horizon festival is easy to find - roadside banners will always guide you home and its searchlights and laser shows are visible from miles away when night falls. Horizon is the first Forza to feature night racing, and once again, it's Turn 10's maths that make it work.

"When we knew we had to create an open world, we knew we had to have a time of day system," says Fulton. "That's just the price of entry for the open-world setting. But we were fortunate because Forza gives us this image-based lighting system which sits the car in the scene - the lighting is real, not baked-in. So we have a dynamic sky and cloud system, atmospheric scattering, the sun is dynamic and casts dynamic shadows, and when you're driving at night the whole driving experience is changed. These are dark, dark roads lit only by your headlights, so the driving experience in Horizon is always changing."
This sounds fantastic

"We did tweak things to allow for more "stylish" driving, though."

-.-

"The basic premise is you're attending a festival, and your goal is to become King of the festival by gathering fans. You do that by winning races, risky driving, stunts, special challenges and events."

i expect something like this from NFS but forza? fucking bleh

I don't get why people have problems with it, it's not Forza Motorsport.

So there's only one festival? And you have to constantly go back to it? I'm worried about the size of the world. I'm hearing that they have to do visibility of up to 20km, so if we assume thats pretty much from one end to the other, its 400sq km or 248sq miles, which would be about a third of the size of TDU's map(~600 sq miles). They're also saying 'hundreds of miles of road' while TDU had 1000 miles of road, if I remember right.

I'm also hearing them say, "If you can see it, you can drive to it", but can you? It seems that apart from a very select few parts, you pretty much have to remain on the road/path or at least close to it. I haven't seen any footage of somebody just driving wherever they wanted.

Are you honestly going to make me track down when you lied about being 30 then myself and others remembered you posting last year that you were living at home and in your late teens?

oh haha you took that post seriously you really are a silly head arent you! :)

The game is 30fps though.

it just gets worse and worse, huge step back..a SLIDESHOW as dan said about 30fps racing games

Soundscream, Xanadu/Deththrasher, just play nice or ignore each other or fight to the death.

TDU's map was indeed huge, but I think this should be pretty big too. I'm sure they'll have races all over the map, not just racing back to the festival for each one.

That on board vid looks fantastic, giant watch aside.
This game is going to be so damn fun.

I hope there is a visible windshield in cockpit view since the game runs at 30fps.

True! This game would definitely benefit from a little dust on the windshield from hauling offroad.

[MS-Conf] Forza Horizon- E3 2012 trailer and Just how old is Xanadu anyways?

So, is it open world like TDU where you can drive around between races, or are you just @ the festival and cutscenes make up time between races?
