The iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch Gaming |Thread4| NOT Doomed

I know it probably doesn't mean much to you guys, but take a look at some of the other Cave threads to appear on the board - they're in serious financial trouble right now and can't really afford to give away content for free, especially content that they previously charged $15 as an add-on for on the 360. Even if I were completely uninterested in playing it I'd probably buy anything they released just to support them.

I know people love to hate stuff like IAP and multiple versions but I'll gladly pay full price for anything they put out, and I think a lot of genre fans wil because they appreciate the availability. This stuff is hard to come buy in many places and even then it's somewhat expensive. <$10 is more than reasonable to me. I think the kind of people who buy these games will easily get their money's worth.

Black Label is a very different game IMO (and probably more accessible) and there's a Boss Rush mode (new for iOS) which has bosses from the original Mushi, which is really cool.

edit: I just want to know when it's coming. I'm going nuts waiting for it.

Does anyone here share an iTunes account with someone else? For example, your significant other? If so, do you have problems with iCloud or Gamecenter?

I bought an iPad for my wife and used my itunes account, but now my iCloud backups are appearing on her device (my Pocket Planes game overwrote the game she had started).

Additionally, some games (such as Tiny Tower) seem to save your Gamecenter ID, then not work if you change the Gamecenter ID.

I do this with my wife but not the same setup as you, I have my iTunes account on my iPhone and she has her own on her iPhone BUT we share my ID for the iTunes store that way we can share purchases but we each get our own iCloud.

OH! That might be what I'm looking for:

  • Store -> Apple ID is the SAME on both devices.

  • iCloud -> Account is DIFFERENT on both devices.

This allows you to seamlessly share purchases but maintain your own backup/saves with iCloud?

What about Gamecenter?

Anyone played Sid Meier's Pirates on the iphone/ipod touch? How was it? It's on sale for a buck, thinking of getting it but I already have a backlog of games.

Yea I played for 8 hours over two days. More than enough to cover the initial investment! Was a big fan of the original, and the mini games (dueling/dancing/cannoning) were hit or miss. Will probably play again soon. The most important thing is that it still has that Sid Meier crack that makes you want to visit one more port or do one more quest for hours and hours.

you can have 1 itunes account(in your name and CC info) and separate EVERYTHING else. icloud, imessage, GC.....
currently doing this with my wife and kids. my kids dont have access to make purchases, they can download from my purchase list though.

realMyst is up on the app store now. $6.99. Anyone going to bite? I think I'll grab it.

So I picked this up. Major nostalgia wave for any 30+ year old gamers out there :) I picked up the old Myst on iphone when it came out, but couldn't deal with the slideshow navigation. This is Myst how it was intended to be played. The art hasn't aged all that well, but it's still a great experience. Particularly if you like puzzle adventure games.

The only issue I see right now is some bad framerates when you're looking across the island. Kind of irritating given that I'm playing it on the ipad 3, and the geo is so simplistic. But highly playable and I'm enjoying rediscovering all the locations and solutions I've long since forgotten.

thank you panama chief. I'll be setting that up tonight.

To anyone without an iPad, you're not missing much. The navigation controls are poor, the editorial barely exists and it's mostly adverts.

I actually think that Swipe magazine is very well put together. Sure, it has gimmicky shit like a model from NOVA 3 that you can spin around, but I liked most of the layout and navigation. And I'm a sucker for the little flourishes, like having the little 8-bit warrior level up as you read through their RPG article.

The big problem though is the content is generally terrible or pure fluff, but not surprising considering where they're pulling their content from.

I am absolutely loving ios gaming at the moment. I have my sons itouch set-up as the same account as my iphone4s and buying one game means he has it too.
But browsing the games and picking up gems like world of goo and broken sword is bringing a huge smile to my face. I haven't turned on my xbox360 in over two weeks and I don't miss it one bit.
Weird but it reminds me of the days when I used to pick through my old commodore amiga games.
If the new ipad was able to produce the same visuals as my 360 then I would be all over it.

if other mags took the swipe format, but put good shit to read, it would be the best mag ever.

After playing broken sword it would be great if bladerunner came to ios.
All of those amazing point'n click adventures and no sign of them.

Radiangames excellent Ballistic SE is currently FREE

Fuck me sideways and leave me bleeding by the side of the road, Mass Effect Infiltrator is actually pretty damn good! Good looking, good controls, a novel combat system, varied encounters... I'm impressed. Several leagues better than Dead Space so far after about an hour. Well worth the 69p.

Holy crap that's a bargain! Everyone needs this game.

Everyone needs all of them. For some reason I'm always hesitant to drop full price on a Radiangames title, but I'm never disappointed.

Yeah, runs and looks good on my 3GS. Like Civ when I first started playing, I feel a little clueless. But it's fun traveling around, looting, and dancing with royalty. Certain things could be explained better, but somehow I ended up getting sucked in for about three hours last night.

I own both an iPhone and an iPad. Is it possible for me to "synchronize" game saves between them using Cloud, so I can play a game on one device, and then resume where I left off on another?

If not, then is there at least a way I can transfer game saves via iTunes, so if I've started a game on one device, but decide that I'd rather make the other device my primary method of playing that game, I don't need to start over again?

The App of the week is Sega's All Star Racing, but the latest reviews are terrible. It has 3.5 stars overall, but the majority of the last several reviews are one star and they all mention horrible crashing. Anyone have any experience? Seems like a waste of space even free.

Tower of Fortune is one of the best games I have played on iOS, it's brutally un-forgiving but so satisfying. I still haven't got to the end boss (avoiding buying currency) and it is possible to do by just playing, got amazing gear coming out of my ears right now and don't go into a fight with less than 5 potions as it's perma-death (you keep your cash and thats it).

I just found out that if an App is removed from the App Store, it is also removed from your Purchased list. This sucks.

Has it always been the case?

It's been that way for a long time (if not the entire time). It's terrible but it makes sense if you look at it from the standpoint of games Apple pulled due to inappropriate content, etc.

In a situation like Let's Golf 2, don't be mad at Apple. Be mad at Gameloft, as they remove the game, not Apple. And they remove it so you're forced to grab the newest version of their game with tons of crappy IAP, etc.

EA is also bad with that sort of thing (see Tetris on iOS).

I understand it if an App has been removed by Apple for legitimate reasons.

But otherwise it completely goes against the whole point of iCloud. I don't want 200 Apps on my computer, but Apple allowing this shit means I have to have these hard copies of them.

A friend bought Critter Crunch years ago and still remains on the purchase list last I checked

I'm heading out to pick up an iPad today and a few itunes cards. I think I've narrowed down a few games worth picking up but are there any big ones I'm missing? I've been out of the iOS scene since the iPhone 3G

Tiny Tower
Pocket Planes
Scribblenauts
Infinity Blade (Should I get 1 or 2 or both?)
Galaxy on Fire 2

Some of my favorites that look great on the new iPad:
Sword & Sworcery
Bejeweled HD
Plants vs zombies HD
Zombie Carnaval (sp?)
Fruit Ninja HD

As for infinity blade, I started with the second one and don't feel like I've missed out on anything.
