[Nintendo Direct] 3DS XL (90% larger screen, 4GB SD, better battery) OP has details

The same resolution? What? I need to see this in action.
Just look for any DSiXL demo. :p
Same resolution in this case makes sense, since the hardware is not upgraded and the original games and all games actually are and will be made with the 400 x 240 resolution in mind.

I really wanted a redesign, but this is not exactly it... No second analog, ugly design and colors for US, higher price, no AC adapter possibly, 2D games will probably stretch into something ugly on this. I might as well get the current version or wait for yet another redesign.

If Nintendo didn't make the CCP retailer exclusive then I think the no second analog stick bitching would be fine but not so much now given the circumstances.

I think the no AC adapter bitching is fine though. I have a DSi and a DS Phat will any of my chargers work on it?
I think the CCP bitching is perfectly fine because it's an important control method for some games and the no ac adapter is insane, It's a different charger than any previous ds, so both your chargers will not work.

So NOA releases two colors for the 3DS XL at launch (red and blue) and every other territory gets 3 (red, blue, and silver/gray).

Looks like no 3DS XL at launch for me, since I really want that gray unit.

Eh, because it was primarily a 2D machine. 2D pixel games scale up quite nicely. Seeing 3D graphics at 400x240 on a big screen like that is gonna be...not quite as nice.

I played many of the fugly DS 3D games and it looked just as fugly, not worse

New Super Mario Bros for example looked as great as it could ever look on the XL

Odd not many are talking about this, but fuck,

The matte

DAMN RIGHT

Because if it did include the adapter I'm sure Nintendo would charge $204.99 MSRP for the system, right? They are simply being cheap rip off new adopters. It's pathetic. People claim companies are anti-consumer for shit like DLC or online passes when this is a lot closer to being that and you want to give them a pass.

Indeed, it doesn't affect me personally as I have a DSi, but it's pretty indefensible to not include something as integral to the system's operation as the adapter to charge the (proprietary) batteries. Unless they plan to replace it with something like a USB charging cable, it's a baffling decision to say the least.

Holy shit. Prolly will buy.

Which is exclusive to Gamestop in NA. So if the revision had a second analog stick included and developers started using it, people with the original 3DS would be forced to buy it from Gamestop. Which I know would piss off every retailers not named Gamestop. Also consumers can't get it for cheaper from anywhere else cause well it's exclusive to Gamestop.

If Nintendo didn't make the CCP retailer exclusive then I think the no second analog stick bitching would be fine but not so much now given the circumstances.

I don't see that as a large enough excuse. In NA, Gamestops are pretty ubiquitous. And we don't know the details of Nintendo's exclusivity deal. Those things can be re-negotiated.

I thought the point of CCP was to make right stick standard on all future revisions without leaving Ambassadors out to dry. For an add-on (one of the weirder ones at that), CCP already has decent software support. Leaving right stick out of XL when there's obviously room for it is bewildering.

It's like they are in a race with Sony to decide who can make the shittiest decision regarding hardware:

Nintendo: I'm pricing my handheld at $250
Sony: yea, well i'm pricing mine at $250 AND not including any memory card
Nintendo: Well if that's the case we're taking out the fucking ac adapter! your move!

i wonder how Sony will respond...

Take out their second analog stick obviously.

The original 3DS wasn't a looker with those 3 layers of color (later colors were much better though), however the new looks kinda awkward. It's not committing to any familiar sleek design. Looks kinda cheap and knockoff-ish with the matte finish and those huge rounded edges. I haven't seen it from the side when it's closed, but for some reason I don't think it'll look better.

I guess I'll wait to see how it looks in my hand.

The EU stream made it VERY clear that there is no AC adapter in the box. Packaging was shown for it to be sold seperately.

Yeah but is this also true for the US? I mean the IGN article is undoubtedly quoting the Japanese spec sheet but I want to see if this is also the case in NA. I haven't seen anything official.

Ugly as fuck

No second analog stick!! Seriously wtf nintendo

Same shitty resolution.

Still better than the original 3DS since not as much real estate is wasted and it atleast has a half way decent battery life.

But it really could have and should have been FAR better.

They aren't going to change the resolution or add a second stick. People threw hissy fits over every PSP revision not having one as well, and it never came. I see no reason why it would be any different with the 3ds

If people think a resolution upgrade was ever possible.... LOL! You don't understand technology and should probably keep your mouth shut.

You though wrong. We have been saying this since the CCP got announced.

White better come to NA.
Do we know NA colors yet?

Also it's relatively easy to migrate all your downloads/purchases/Club Nintendo data/etc to a new 3DS...right?

Zelda LE 3DS still Best 3DS.

I don't understand this. It's basically a black 3DS with what "could be" a cheap yellow decal sticker of some designs on the top shell.
The special edition systems, such as the gold ones of past Gameboy/GBA/DS were much better.

Well, because the circle pad pro happened, and also, it's 2012.

Tbh I don't really like the design of it. It definitely has Wii U GamePad in it's mine with the curves and the matte and whatnot. The screen size increase is definitely substantial...I'll probably be content with my sexy purple 3DS and hold out until Smash Bros 3DS comes out. That game could really use a bigger screen.

If it's the case everywhere else in the entire world, why wouldn't it be the same in the USA?

It's not shipping with an AC adapter.
