Mutant Mudds Steam REJECTED

Now looking into GoG as a potential distrubtion method.

Shame, would've been nice for others to get the chance to play it and I'dve thought it'd fit into the Steam library nicely.

Well... that's odd. I don't know if it measures up to something like VVVVVV, but it at least shares a similar theory of aesthetic, and that's a very "Steam" game in my mind.

They do it all the time and the worst part is that they never give a reason.

I think is time for them to improve the system, they obviously can do whatever they want, but at the end of the day, is bad for the consumer.

We have seen good games rejected, and also a lot of garbage accepted.

I don't get it either.

Dark Void Zero is on Steam, and that game was originally a DSiWare title. I own Mutant Mudds on 3DS eShop, but I would support the PC version too.
Hopefully the guys at Steam would reconsider because I <3 their service, and I asked Jools personally to put the game on there.

Valve doesn't have to do what is good for the consumer, they have to do what is best for publishers, developers and consumers.

I do find it a bit amusing that they seem to reject certain adventure games. It makes me wonder if any of these Kickstarter adventure games will even make it onto Steam. :p

For developers, they should be more transparent though.

That comes from Capcom, i guess the selection process is different, i would say that there is no selection at all for games from publishers, they just do it. Not the same with indies.

Steam needs some sort of peer/crowd approval process for very small indie games. They could have 3 slots a month and the community (weighted by number of purchases, influence, hours spend on steam library etc) could upvote them with $0.50 tokens or some other small incentive that prevents voting fraud like limiting free tokens to a fixed number per quarter for verified accounts.

I think Valve needs to change it's policy about these things. They accepted Revelations 2012, but not mutant mudds? I think everyone knows which is the best game of the two.

You know, Max looks like how I'd imagine Gabe looked as a kid, there could be something there that explains this

Revelations has way more entertainment value for the price, guaranfuckingteed.

Valve rejects games for a lot of reason. We know they've rejected games because the dev wanted to sell at too high of a price for example.

Sure, but they are a company that always talks about service to the consumer first... sometimes that are just words of course.

I can see why they would not want too many games to push on the front page at a time, but I don't understand how simply putting stuff on the store (without advertising it) is a problem.

Revelations 2012 is a Source Engine Game, which gives it a pass onto Steam.

Clearly Mutant Mudds just can't hold up to the polish or feature set of such titular titles as "Revelations 2012"

I really want an official response why Revelations 2012 got on Steam, and other so many quality games don't. I suspect the answer is because it's a Source game. It makes you wonder why these rejected developers ain't rewriting their code in Source then.

Here is a video that will make you go WTF http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LzTo6XUiIA4&feature=g-u-u its TotalBiscuit when he is mad.

Also Gamespot gave it a 1.5 out of 10.

Or, people just need to realize that buying games on places other than Steam like direct from websites, Desura and others works well, too.

That's weird. Got the demo on the 3DS and it was pretty okay, not enough to buy but I can see others really enjoying it. This thread probably won't get as much attention as when Nintendo rejected Binding of Isaac though.

From March:
Blow wouldn’t say what he saw at Valve, but he did say one of Steam’s problems is that it’s hard to have a limited number of people looking at the games being submitted and still make sure games that deserve it get through. The submission pipe is filled with games that barely work, as well as a flood of submissions for re-skinned versions of popular, existing games. A common trick is to change the title and loading screen of Call of Duty and submit it as a new game. It takes a significant amount of time to wade through all the cruft. “In that noise, some really good games get lost. Indies e-mail with games, demos, videos, and sometimes it’s actually a good game, and the indie community knows it’s a good game, or someone in the press knows it a good game, but Valve doesn’t know it’s a good game,” Blow said. There are plans to help with these issues, and Steam has a few other tricks up its sleeve for the future.

And you can buy music outside of iTunes. But your songs sell a whole lot better and get a lot more attention when they are offered on the service of the market leader.

It's possible he just presented it incorrectly or something odd went wrong.

There was a story not too long ago about a guy getting rejected then going back again with a better plan. He got it accepted after the second meeting.

It's possible he just needs to go back. He *should* have a rough idea as to why it was rejected. There's no reason to stop trying.

Maybe if Renegade Kid recreates Maximillian and the Rise of Mutant Mudds with Source engine, only then they'd accept it.

I believe there is an interview floating around with someone from Wadjet Eye Games talking briefly about the application process, and why it took multiple times for something like The Blackwell Bundle compilation to appear on Steam, despite Gemini Rue appearing on the store prior. A lot of it had to do with doing the application "right" i.e. video references, a good description, etc.

Basically it seemed similar to sending a manuscript to a publisher. Unless it was a full application with all the good points inserted, there was no reason for the viewer to press accept and they had no obligation at telling you where you went wrong.

I'd try to find the interview but I am slightly inebriated and lazy.

This is another interview that came to mind. Thank you.

They are not ever going to accept every game that might be interesting, I'm sure they reject far more games than they accept, and the idea that you or anyone else can only buy PC games on Steam and Steam alone is the problem, not them.

God I loved the original idea.

I loved the 3DS game too until I realised it was hard as all fuck and there was some odd design choices which made the game harder then it should be.

I bet it got rejected on price. It just got released on the EU ehop for 9 euro. If they were pushing for the same price on steam where's there is many more similar games I could see it getting rejected

The reality that Steam is a for profit business must be crashing down on people normally worshipping Valve 24/7.
