I wonder how SE must feel knowing that they are too incompetent to deliver the ONE product that a plethora of fans ask for year after year.

The way XII started I really thought it had the potential to be one of the best entries in the series but damn if you can't practically feel the moment that Matsuno-san got pulled off the project.
It's like all the game narrative just suddenly stops and next thing you know you're at the end boss :/
it's remade perfection and it matched the lofty standards set by the original.
=D
He's right. FF7 is the only game with a villain that could elicit an emotion besides laughter.
I laughed so hard when Kefka poisoned the water at Cyan's castle. That Kefka! He's right. FF7 is the only game with a villain that could elicit an emotion besides laughter.
Yeah, boredom. He's right. FF7 is the only game with a villain that could elicit an emotion besides laughter.

Suikoden II called. Luca Blight on line 1.
Square continues to utterly baffle me this generation.
I think this has something to with honor or something. Square would feel ashamed to make a FFVII Remake because it would be like admitting defeat that they cannot make games that good anymore.
I can respect that.
If they had any shame, XII, XIII and XIV wouldn't have been released in their current states and MMOs wouldn't have been shoved down fans' throats as mainline entries.
Yes, that's probably just a poetic way for Wada to say that a project like that, I mean with the costs of development that will require to them, it's not the priority for Square Enix at the moment. They'll do it when they'll be sure to do it the right way at the right moment.
They are both just as uninteresting. Well, not really, at least Vayne isn't dragged down by alien mommy histrionics.I think you're getting Sephiroth and Vayne confused son. Try again.
Honestly, I'm surprised that they're not opting for a portable remake.
/thread.They did, it was called IX.
haha. FFXII was infinitely better than FFVII. So was FFIX. So was... well, ok, that's it in the post-FFVII era. FFX-2 definitely has a much superior battle system, but I can't quite give it a nod because it's wrapped up in such unbearable packaging. At least I can sort of ignore the horrible writing of FFVII and squint my eyes and get an appropriately atmosphered FF game; not that saccharine disaster.
In the pre-FFVII era, FFVI and FFV are both way better.
But really, he's just making excuses. They can hardly finish the titles that are working on now in the Final Fantasy series, pretty much stuck on recycling FFXIII's awful world over and over. That's pretty much what I imagine hell must be like, so no way they'd do that shit on purpose
Edit: Actually, they made FFVIII and FFXIII and these awful games didn't end the FF series, so I'm not sure why FFVIIre would magically have to be.
FFIX has a story just as ridiculous and puerile as FF7's (even more so arguably) - if you prefer the setting then that's down to personal taste. FFXII was the most complete final fantasy game to date content-wise but the narrative, characters and scenario were all so po-faced and uninspired that it falls short of FF7 as a package imo.
FF7=FF10> FF12 > FF9 >>>>>>>FF8>FF13
But to address the OP.... it's good that Square-Enix are admitting that they've damaged the final fantasy brand. Hopefully they know how on earth to go about fixing it.
Random question, but does anyone know what inspired the Trance system in Final Fantasy IX?
In theory, it's a burst of energy as a result of heightened emotion, but in terms of gameplay it was essentially released when your ATB gauge fills, you have absolutely no control of it as it activates automatically, so you could be hit by a random enemy and your Trance would activate, thus being practically useless for the majority of the game. It's not like FFVII where your gauge would fill and then you could save the Limit for when it was needed (against a boss for instance) As I remember it fills up a lot slower as well.
Was I just using it wrong? It just seems like a really lame system from what I remember
my guess is that the system was inspired by how overpowered limit breaks were because you could store them. I would just fill up all my gauges then walk into a boss fight and just go to town. Most bosses just down immediately, died soon after, or just ran out of magic and just sat there until I killed them.
33 here and i still havent played an rpg i cared about more than ff7. Ive played every stateside ff sans 11 and tons of others. Nothing had a villain as good a sephiroth or a world like 7 had. The art was amazing, the cast was solid, and everything seemed to flow so well.
12 uneniably had better gameplay but the characters were SHIT. By the time it was over i didnt care about the game at all. X was good X-2 was possibly the worst FF ive ever played besides 13.
not sure if serious. I mean, this bullshit is really impressive. you sound pretty convinced.haha. FFXII was infinitely better than FFVII.
and more! Maybe you didn't notice that we're talking about videogames. not a single story is perfect but there is a difference from good ones (let's see, FFVI-VII-IX, FFIV one is nice as well) and ones made by cocaine-addled bonobos like FFVIII-X-XII. If you can't see that difference just change hobby or go play some call of duty online, they say it's addictive. You're talking as if the story in ANY Final Fantasy game isn't written by fucking escaped cocaine-addled bonobos.

not sure why people keep thinking that FFXII is a great FF, but well, guess I can't help it.
I was already laughing when I read this...I'm sorry I'm not nostalgia-whored on the FFVII universe, and that this is so inexplicable to you; it has a garbage story, a mediocre battle system and an only halfway decent atmosphere. Its soundtrack is nice though.
FFXII, on the other hand, introduced an astonishingly forward-thinking mechanic with the gambit system, which finally relegates strategy-less garbage random battles to the background of ignores-ville and allows me to focus my tinkering on the micro level, so that I can focus only on battles that actually matter half a shit. To say nothing of enemies always being on screen and thus being able to select my targets, of the world and atmosphere being one of the most fully realized of any FF game, of the exploration being the best of the single player titles, of the monster hunts being the single greatest FF sidequest.
But at THIS point, I almost shit my pants laughing so hard XD amir0x ♥But, sorry, I meant... OMG SEPHYROSS CAN U BELIEVE HIM!? ESTUANS INTERIUS IRA VEHEMENTI ESTUANS INTERIUS IRA VEHEMENTI SEPHYROSS! SEPHYROSS!
ether...
