The iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch Gaming |Thread4| NOT Doomed

So, I'm in the mood for a first person dungeon crawler but will unfortunately be traveling with a move for the next week and will be unable to use my PC or PS3. Anything decent on iOS I should check? Looking for something that's fully supported with an iPad version. Preferably with a multi-character party.

While it doesn't meet a few of your requirements, The Quest is easily the king of RPGs on iOS (particularly of the first person kind). I can't think if a way to describe how robust the game really is...

Is the Adventure Time game any good? If not, is there any great adventure games on iOS anyone could recommend?

It's a simple pont-and-click adventure game that takes, maybe, 15 minutes to finish. I'd say it's worth a go-through for a fan of the show. It's the only one on the Appstore.

1112
Ghost Trick
Touch Detective
City of Secrets
Bar Oasis/ Bar Oasis 1.5 (More of a visual novel)
Secret of Chateau de Moreau
Soul Trapper (Interactive Audiobook)

That and the Telltale stuff.

EDIT: I wasn't that into the Adventure Time game. Even as a fan of the series, it's way too straightforward. The artwork is nice, and the few voice acting bits are alright, but it feels really phoned in.

Thanks guys. I guess I'll avoid the Adventure Time game.

1112 seems pretty interesting. I already own Ghost Trick on DS, else I'd totally be in to that too. I remembered that the first two Monkey Island games are on iOS as well, right? How are the ports of those?

I haven't played the Monkey Island games on an iDevice yet but there's also Broken Sword 1 and 2, Beneath the Steel Sky, Machinarium. I'm sure I'm forgetting some.

hmmm... has there been any english visual novels on the app store yet?

A Scar of the Doll. I've only played a little of it but it seems good.

A few new games out...

Just grabbed Offroad Legends, it's good fun for 99c, very polished.

Spiderman looks ok but is too expensive.

Cthulhu is getting good reviews but the graphics put me off a bit and I don't know much about the Cthulu stories so not sure if it would go over my head.

Don't worry about the Cthulu stories at all. It's a comedic 16bit RPG and very polished and funny!

Any recommendations for great 'portrait' games that could be played single handed?

Need some for my crowded subway commute.

By single-handed do you mean hold with one hand and play with the other?

You could try Fuusio. It is a fantastic puzzle game that is extremely challenging, but fair and rewarding.

Actually, since I haven't seen anyone mention it here, Fuusio is definitely worth checking out for anyone who likes puzzle games!

EDIT: Does that Cthulhu game come out tomorrow then?

Do we have any idea when Infinity Blade Dungeons is releasing? Probably my most anticipated game right now. Gonna grab Squids 2 right now, love that stuff.

Also Gunman Clive is FUCKING BALLS AWESOME. Congrats beril, hope more people buy it.

Hey, that looks interesting!

lmao at this three star review:
"The story is a bit too dark. Don't really enjoy playing something that involves satanism. Some of the puzzles are obtuse. "

He is right that some of the puzzles are obtuse, and the game is short (4-5 hours), but I quite enjoyed the story (it IS pretty dark). I think it's worth it, considering it's a $30 PC release, but reviews are polarized.

Almost completed Ace Attorney on the DS now (on the final bonus case) and really enjoying it, already have the games on DS (and already completed them) but playing through a second time with my girlfriend - would much prefer to play on iPad if possible, any news on the Phoenix Wright HD collection?

Yesterday is absolute garbage. The puzzles are poorly designed, the story is embarrassingly bad, the humour is so out of place and it's over in no time. If you're starved for point and clicks, play Hector or replay Broken Sword.

I second this. I had a lot of fun with this game and it took me 3 sessions to finish it. The point and click dynamic are very reminiscent of old times, with obtuse puzzles. But it was a great ride, and with a built in hint system, you will not be stuck.

I enjoyed Yesterday way more than Hector. But hey, opinions and all.

Yeah, I hated Hector too (episode 1 at least, didn't bother with the rest). Terrible humour, imo.

You can't go wrong with Broken Sword though. Best point and click adventure on the Appstore. And probably on PC too.

Any opinions of this Tetrisphere-like game?

Globulous

Loved Super Stardust. Going to download Darkside now.

I decided to check it out. It's definitely Tetrisphere, but it only has one mode (I believe). It has broken the game down into stages, and so far each stage can be completed in less than30 seconds. It's not exactly how I want my game of Tetrisphere to play, but it is functionally the same game.

The presentation is really nice. The graphics are good, but what I really like is that at the center of each Tetrisphere is an everyday object, and then a silly description of that object on the level complete screen. It's very Pikmin-esque.

The controls I'm a little unsure of. Dragging rotates the sphere, while the curser stays centered. Double tapping drops the next block, while single tapping is for dragging blocks already in play. This doesn't work great to me, and I'd much rather prefer at least one of the two commands be mapped to a button.

I think I'll keep playing it. With some updates this could be a very good game, and all for $.99.

I enjoyed this until I got to the end of the tutorial stages, and then I couldn't be bothered to play anymore because there's about 1,276 different tools to remember and it was far too much of a pain. They could have easily had half or a third of the tools they put in and still had enough to make some really tricky puzzles.

NineOut's a good single handed game, it's not really like drop7, but will definitely appeal to fans of that.

No one's gonna buy Spider-Man for $10, surely? It's Independence Day soon so there's bound to be a 99c sale on it. Or if not, it's St Swithin's Day soon after, so that's a definite sale opportunity. Or if not, there's Yorkshire Day in August, which is bound to be commemorated with a Gameloft sale, and there's got to be a sale on the European Day of Remembrance for Victims of Stalinism and Nazism too because why the fuck not? Eh, Gameloft?

I don't think New Zealand pricing is US pricing.

More concept art from The village.

Love what they did with the title screen for the new Squids game. It's the little things sometimes. Not sure how the heck they're getting it to animate like that, as it looks like 2D art stills, but it looks cool.

Gameplay thus far, though, is pretty much more of the same. I look forward to seeing what's new. Either way, it's worth the price just for the iCloud support. Heck, I'd pay just for the opening music; the rest is just gravy, really.

Long telephone meeting + Squids 2 hype = me giving Squids a second try.

I tried Squids for a level or two when it first came out and it didn't hook me at all. I just played it a bit again this afternoon, and now I can't wait to play more, 'yall were right about it.

Are there any other services like 'Free my Apps' and Free App Daily? These have actually been working for me, and have given me around $50 of free games/credit on the App store in two months time.

It's kind of addicting too.
