Could NeoGAF have it's own dedicated magazine/gaming website?

So I was thinking, what if GAF invested some money and time into creating a published, monthly magazine? With developers a part of GAF, and industry recognised stature, maybe GAF would be able to warrant a monthly issue with exclusive interviews and previews, as well as the staple reviews and features?
Or, if we're of the opinion that physical press is on it's way out, why not a gaming website to deliver a similar role? There could still be the forums too, retaining it's strict application rules so as not to fill the boards with stupid people that come attracted by the news/previews featured on the gaming side.
Surely there'd be increased attention, scope and, though it's not GAF's main driving force, profits via adverts, plus the added value of news breaking directly onto NeoGAF/users being able to stay in one place for their gaming news and discussion.

What say you GAF? Best idea ever, or the blurst idea ever?
For me it seems like a natural progression. GAF could pride itself in maintaining a relatively professional and strict approach, and still could potentially become the premium gaming news source.

It would just be another gaming magazine, with the distinction of having the NeoGAF branding on it. It would be produced by a comparatively small team that would in no way represent the sheer beautiful cavalcade of broad opinion that make up the varied thousands of voices in our community.

I just don't see the point, frankly.
 
Reddit already tried this. It failed horribly, even with the magazine actually being very good.

Anyone who visits a site regularly enough to know about the magazine already knows everything in the magazine.
 
Yeah, no. What makes gaf gaf is the discussion and different opinions, etc. An article on a news website or whatever would just be like reading a single long post on here.
 
Neogaf should have a main page.

That would be successful.

People could post on it all the time.

I cannot see how it could possibly fail.
 
When even Game Informer, which is one the most highly subscribed magazines there are, is looking to push digital subscriptions instead of physical ones, it's a clear sign that gaming magazines are dead. Soon to be followed by all other magazines, pretty much.

It's the nature of the beast. Due to the amount of time it takes to write, edit, layout, publish and actually deliver the thing, it's completely and totally out of date.

Also, publishing a single review of a game, and claiming it represents GAF's viewpoint is an idea just asking for trouble.
 
Who here would be that dedicated?

I mean, we could give it all to Blamespace and watch the whole thing burn. But other than that, I really couldn't be bothered.
 
GAF is the people on the form.

¿Who will be writing on the web?

Maybe a blog with permission to write to all forum members (if you "troll", you will be banned) and a few people to check spelling and other stuff.

But maybe is better to be only a forum :)
 
We get news on GAF.

We get interviews on GAF.

We get updates on GAF.

We get previews on GAF.

We get reviews on GAF.

We get discussion on GAF.

Tell me again why we need a magazine/website?
 
EDGE and GamesTM are (in my opinion) gaming magazines done right. Neogaf is (also in my opinion) a gaming forum done right. These things are different and the world is best when they remain different.

Though what about collecting select users opinions on certain games, to mirror the dynamic discussion we enjoy here? If anything, ti could provide an exceptional way for developers to obtain feedback on their games - by appreciating it from all angles.
In a sense, this would increase industry recognition and hopefully secure a better bond between game creators and players - a scenario that GAF once stood for, but has long lost.

I think GAF is already recognized in the industry. Find me a major developer who hasn't heard of us.

Then again, even if you could, who really cares?

We already have a pretty good relationship going - GAF is one of, if not the most reliable resource that developers can tap in to.

I wouldn't say it's lost it, we just have a few more idiotic members.

It could make a good website, but it would go against what makes the forum good for me. Everyone's opinion is equal on here. Last thing the site needs is Gaf-gaming celebs for people to circlejerk over

I have no idea what the last sentence means.
 
No one outside of GAF would read it and, even then, it's not entirely certain GAFfers would bother, either. After all, almost no one on the forum seemed to notice that Gaming-Age was the front page for GAF when they were still tied at the hip. GAF is it's own dedicated magazine and gaming website, all done in real-time by members for free.
 
It could be fun to watch the spectacle of NeoGAF the forum trolling NeoGAF the magazine with fake news. Also, what would become of "games journalism LOL"? Banned meme? And most importantly who would pay for that and why?
 
No.

I don't mean to be rude, but this would be the sort of announcement I would except GAF to make on April 1st as a joke. Print is fairly dead. I think we're better off with "Best of GAF" threads every month and that's it.
