Could NeoGAF have it's own dedicated magazine/gaming website?

It could be fun to watch the spectacle of NeoGAF the forum trolling NeoGAF the magazine with fake news. Also, what would become of "games journalism LOL"? Banned meme? And most importantly who would pay for that and why?
A sarcastic gaming site would be pretty cool. It would probably just end up being a blog that reposts blogs that were reposted by Kotaku though.

We get news on GAF.

We get interviews on GAF.

We get updates on GAF.

We get previews on GAF.

We get reviews on GAF.

We get discussion on GAF.

Tell me again why we need a magazine/website?
Maybe to reach people outside of this little circle of ours... if that's what's desired. I don't care either way.

Ever seen an unfunny twitter parody account. Imagine that, but with thousands of people doing it at the same time, and you having to wade through them to find the few funny ones. That's how that would end up, unfortunately.

GAF is a gaming industry aggregate, which makes browsing (most) gaming sites redundant, and browsing gaming sites made subscribing to gaming magazines useless.

Wanting NeoGAF to do a print magazine is like wanting Apple to manufacture portable cassette players.

I'm sure we could create a site that re-posted memes, articles, and videos other people created/published weeks ago. The Huffington GAF

It could be a digital magazine summing it all up for those who don't post/visit GAF so often, in addition to original content like interviews with users, mods and devs that post here.

Imagine a whole magazine rack full of Neogaf magazines getting knocked over. :O

Ok, but then what would it be of the "gaming journalists hurr durr" posts and the NDA breaking begging? Traffic would collapse.

Oh GOD...Please No. Let me tell you a little story of myself.

Before I become a GAF, I was actively be a part in one of Gaming Forum in my country. It was insanely popular at that time, and I became one of the main contributors and staff there. After shits happened, many of veteran members left, and the forum went down and become "pretty much" dead now.

Its Admin has ambitious ideas to change that message board into more than just a forum. He wanted it to be a Gaming Portal or some shit like Kotaku or Gamespot. He did not realize that its community that makes it popular.

I always wanted it to be like NeoGAF, but for him and other members wanted it to be like Kotaku... well yeah, look what happen to it now?? The Homepage still a mess and almost no comment-ers at all, and its forum are full with spams and bot threads ..sigh :(

If any GAFers wants to make a website or Gaming Magazine, do it ... but please don't make it integrated to the NeoGAF forum that I know and loved.

I'd be down for an email newsletter that summarizes all the hot threads of the week, or a top 10 sort of thing for OT and gaming.

I have been working on a print version of NeoGAF called "Best of NeoGAF". Volume one should be out anytime now, maybe I'll post a PDF here too if someone doesn't want to own a psychical copy.

Basically it's just everything Wario64 has posted in past 3 months.

Pus these important threads upfront to a landing page. What constitutes important by whom i dunno, but checkout the homepage layout design thread in OT.

Humor is so varied that being funny to most people hardly ever happens. I can't stand Dane Cook, but other people think that blathering donkey is hilarious.

I once made a satirical review and got flak for it, mainly because three people thought it wasn't funny. The rest were laughing. But those three people made it awkward just because they didn't like it.

You know, I'm trying to put something together. I'd rather not go into specific details when nothing's set.
My lack of experience doesn't help. And I am worried I may not attract interest unless I put myself out to exposure.
I'm sorry if this doesn't make any sense. Bottom line is, a GAF-inspired publication might be closer than you think. Just not GAF-based.

Magazines are a terrible business model, and you would need to hire an editorial staff to curate articles for a website and keep it up to date. It's not as easy as you make it out to be, and nowhere near as profitable as you imagine it to be.

Like others have said, we are already generating enough content to fill up several magazines on a daily basis just through threads and posts.

Instead of having article writers and whatnot, it might be nice to have a "GAFToday" that sums up the most posted in threads and the latest threads, and what GAF consensus is by sorting through the posts.

So really, we'd need a couple of statisticians rather than game journalists.

Sorry for the bump.

I think BurnOutBrighter made it hahaha.

The whole point of this place is to not be part of the machine while still being loosely connected. It would lose its whole identity.

Edit: Necrobump whah

Usually when people make up magazine covers they look awful--cover lines aren't in the right place, the typefaces they use are awful, nameplate isn't actually suited for newsstand displays, etc.

This, on the other hand. This could actually make it on a newsstand.

(for about two months before we pull the plug due to lack of financing and blowing half our budget on a splashy launch party)
