EVO 2012 Thread 2 Because one thread wasnt enough to hold all the hype and the salt

I was wondering if the longer breaks with just the "Evo" splash screen played some part in killing AE's viewers. They really needed a "We'll be right back!" sign on it or something.

Or more information in general on the screen in between breaks.

It would be really cool to have updated splash screens with info-- maybe brackets, schedules, player stats/profiles, etc.
I agree I think that hurt it because it was a long break and if something saying AE grand finals coming up next or something than It probably would have kept more viewers.

Just watch all of MVC3 top 8. SF isn't worth watching at all.

Oh, and KOF grand finals.
I think SF top 8 is definitely worth watching and I agree with you about the rest.

Still in disbelief. All Chris G needed to do was Morrigan's DP super, it would have pushed Champ back full screen where he can finish him off with chip damage. However said Chris G may not have the mental strength to close it out called it correctly.

Yep, I have the same thoughts about ChrisG's decision at the end as well. But hindsight is 20/20.

After the air.S on Doom, he knew the missiles were incoming. Could Shadow Servant have done fast enough damage to Doom before Morrigan got hit and killed by the missiles? Most likely. But he had to make a decision within a split-second and mixed with the pressure, he made the wrong choice at the end by super-jumping to block the missiles.

I'm disappointed at the outcome, but there will be more majors and more EVOs.

Someone else here stated that the FChamp vs. ChrisG match was the highest level Marvel play seen to date and I have to agree. The next time they meet will be intense.

KOF grand finals oh man... easily my Evo moment. (But im biased!)

Yeah they needed to show more information, since they were behind schedule a lot of people were just clueless. I'm pretty sure viewers left after Marvel because they thought it was over since it was late and the break went for so long. I noticed that during AE there was a spike of spectators when Daigo was playing, he sure can draw viewers like no one else.

I love how when Bala lost they brought up when Valle said that if he would of beat Daigo in 98 he would of retired. Will Bala in that trap as well.

From what I heard he wasn't really dqd he was getting stomped by some random and ended up walking away from the game and the other player was awarded the match. Really classy stuff.
Lmao, that sounds like Champ. I actually like the fact that he is an asshole. Pure entertainment. It really made the Marvel tourny feel like he was the final boss that couldn't be defeated. Bastard just wouldn't die!

Justin Wong -> Flocker -> Combofiend -> FChamp.

ChrisG had to fight the best Marvel players in a row.

I feel like it was already a miracle he didn't break down on his first match, but it was just too much for him I guess.

Chris G was deathly afraid of Doom's Plasma Beam, and planned his entire game plan around that close to the end, which led to FChamp getting the upper hand.

Morrigan is invincible during shadow servant.

I agree although it was a bit sloppy but given the setting it's understandable.

Chris G thoroughly outplaying Justin Wong on many levels was insane. Going back to his old team the first game was smart.

Ok, so I went into the training room and tried to do Morrigan's air.S -> Shadow Servant on a standing Doom.

It doesn't work. The hitstun doesn't last long enough. Shadow Servant has 10+10 startup.

Also, Shadow Servant is only invincible for 29 frames. The missiles last a lot longer than that.

I forgot the exact situation he was in then. My bad.

I'm not sure he should have offered his Doom to the wolves though. Hard tagging him in seemed like an actual mistake; looked like he tried for the Kubota escape.

is there are free archive anywhere? i missed KOF cause I was at work.

Also is there an archive of whatever the fuck Triforce was doing last night?

Concerning the schedule. It all started out bad. SC5 didn't start until like 1030. Then it went on from there. KOF went on forever, but the end was hype though of course. Plus the intermissions all that jazz and the seating interruption.

Maybe next year they will slot more time for kof or do top 6 for it or something.

They also need to bring back the dual set up so time is not wasted on button checks.

Also man, can't believe still Chris g tagged in doom at the end. Our section went crazy.

Morrigan can duck under the Plasma Beam but in that situation on that stage a thousand things are going through a player's head so he probably forgot about it. Totally understandable and you can't win them all, it was still an amazing performance by ChrisG... so many clutch plays that I remembered the old ChrisG from back in Vanilla. He is indeed Chris Godlike.

I consider FChamp and ChrisG's match to be extremely high level marvel despite the bad decisions and dropped combos that happened. They had so much more to think about than in a normal marvel match, with all the zoning, full-screen movement and blocking (including a lot of sky navigation), and frequent tag-ins to bring in counter characters. I'm really looking forward to more matches like that in the future.

Also people on twitter have been saying Champ switched his assist. Any picked that up? Not that it would matter.

He never actually switched assists. The confusion about Champ's assist pick comes from the fact that after the 4th game when they went back to character select, Champ clicked on the wrong assist (Liberation, since he had been using Dark Hole the first 4 games), then backed up and fixed it.

That was definitely the mistake that done him in. The commentator said he probably tried to tag Doom in so he could get hit by the Sphere Flame rain instead and maybe recover in time. Really, though?

In any case, Chris did himself in. :(

Twitter changed trending to be personalized. KOF was trending on my twitter until I changed that.

Nope. Bala and filipino champ were both trending worldwide at one point(not kof though) I turned off tailored trends to make sure. There's a pic of it a few pages back when kof/marvel was streaming.

I missed out on this additional info last night, that's good. Last thing we needed was a full year of that lingering around.

Magus called out exactly what he was trying to do. He wanted Doom to come in and get knocked out of the air with the flame so he could easily roll out of it. He made the right call in the situation but fucked up the timing.

I think the real mistake Chris made was not switching to Morridoom after Champ's first win.

FChamp vs ChrisG was truly a battle of the zoning gods. They were battling for every pixel, every projectile durability point, every assist call, every match up advantage, every piece of real estate on that screen and every small advantage take in the battle of attrition. It was the most intense zoning match I have seen in Marvel since their battle at CEO.

I honestly believe that ChrisG would've beaten Infrit in GF and for me Losers Final was the true battle of the two best players in Marvel right now. Last game, last round, last character, last moment... completely down to the wire.

Real talk, if ChrisG had pulled off Kubota Escape to win the set there it would have been the hypest thing in history

That situation might have been a time where the Kubota escape would've won the match for him and I have to wonder if ChrisG was attempting that. That would've been the most clutch play in Marvel history.

Regarding the chanting by Mexican attendees, I think this is nothing more of cultural differences and the fact that this was the first time the EVO crowd experienced this kind of rooting by the mexican attendees. I'm completely aware that, if you look for the literal translation of the words being said, it will come of as rude and offensive. However, there's no intention to harm, harass or offend anyone with those chants, and it will be very difficult to convey this without actually experience this scenario in its original cultural environment. Like SolarKnight said, they Mexican crowd has only but the most upmost respect for the other players.

This kind of behavior is completely normal during soccer matches in Latin American and is part of the overall experience: crowds will throw insults at each other in a competitive yet playful manner.

I'm sure that the Mexican crowd was the most exited to attend the event, and one of the most thrilled to see someone representing their country doing a fantastic. You'll never see a jaded mexican crowd in an event like this.

I'm thrilled to see that Mexico finally has some real representation at EVO and I'm sure next year we are going to see some more strong competitors. Competition will only get better.

So next time that chants start, grab a sombrero and join the fun!

Archives should be available for evo, but as for triforce, the sooner you check the video section of the emp stream, the better chance you'll get of watching triforces crazy ass commentary yesterday. He removes his archives as soon as possible.

i don't mind these words being thrown around, similar to 'fruad' and 'salty'... but why would you chant these things?

In soccer matches whenever the opposing goalie goes to take a goalkick Mexican crowds yells out obscenities. Many foreign commentators have deem it classless. Guess just different cultures.

I'm not his biggest fan, but KingofSaurus really provided us with incredible gif material this year. Much props.

I still don't know why sanford didn't get his ass to evo. I guess he was serious about him saying that he's the best sf player in north america without needing to attend any majors.

This reminds me, did we ever get a higher quality gif of horsehead holding the mexican flag? The only version I saw of it last night was poor and didn't include Bala sitting there stoically.

He didn't go to evo because he an east coast player who lacks a sponsor. It had nothing to do with ego.

What was with Diago long blinking? Was he that tired? It wasn't that late in the West Coast.

It was almost 11pm or a little past 11pm. I would assume most of these guys are up early in the morning due to the time difference. You could easily tell that Diago was not himself. He seemed to be really predictable and hesitant at the same time. This is not how he played in the earlier fights this weekend.

If he was honestly serious about competing he would have saved some money up and gone himself. See all the randoms and spectators that did the same and aren't close to his level.(Not to mention he could ask for donations) He's not going to japan or something.

I don't know if the scheduling affected the SF players, but at least poongko seemed like he was going to die at the chair. That was not classic poongko on that match. :(

This stuff doesn't pay out well enough- if he doesn't have the money he doesn't have the money.

You underestimate how expensive it is to go there especially during 4th of July weekend. I do see where you're getting at though, he probably wasn't hungry to go. If he didn't have the funds he just didn't

EVO days are from 6AM to 2AM. You get the idea. Organizers and workers should get a huge thanks from everybody. Working during EVO means barely any sleep if that.

Poongko was also different. The commentators even mentioned that he seemed like he was not himself. I assume this all has to do with how late it was in the day. When more than two of the top players become predictable, hesitant, and play like noobs, you know something happened to these players.

I personally believe all of this had to do with the time of the matches (when comparing their matches to earlier ones this past weekend).
