EVO 2012 Thread 2 Because one thread wasnt enough to hold all the hype and the salt

All this talk about Persona 4: Arena....anybody have links to notable high level matches of it?
I really want the game to be successful competitively but I haven't been following it too much

I love this video so much due to the zoning SO FUCKING GOOD.

sucks that video quality is booty butt cheeks

Was P4A even a thing when KOF was first published?

probably in development. You don't make a 30-40 hour story mode that is canon without some dev time.

Was P4A even a thing when KOF was first published?

Atlus definitely knew about it long before they published KOF.
It wasn't revealed to the public until this year though.

Here's better quality for Unlimited Circus.

Every single time I hear someone mention P4A, I always think about buying it. And then I remember that ASW has their filthy paws on it, and I change my mind again. I'm going to go insane at this rate.

The hell

Skullgirls had 102 people. It was probably the second biggest alternative(side tourney) game at EVO this year. I'm gonna call Peter and we are gonna have to start powerbombing some people around here.

I'm glad to hear this. I also hope Skullgirls is the next Cinderella story a la KoF next year.

The point I am making is that many games have been at EVO before, that doesn't mean the sequals to those games will return.

Also the hate that DOA5 is getting from it's own scene is not a good sign on it being a strong contender in tournaments. The response to DOA4 was very positive (from the DOA scene) at the time.

EDIT: Also Smash has it's own major event now...they aren't relying on groups like EVO and MLG anymore.

SF4 got a lot of hate. Ditto for UMvC3. It'll be curious if this is case of a "bad but playable game" like SF4 and MvC3 or "bad and unplayable" game like SFxT.

Yeah I hope SG does well, really fun game. I think a lot of players said they would pick it up after Evo, including Fanatiq.

Fanatiq is getting in that LOL vortex. I don't count on him playing any fighting games unless a MM comes up involving him or knives.

I think the stream user count decreased because KOF was still happening when Marvel was supposed to be on - and Marvel started late (and SO many ads prior to it starting about Tekken Tag Tournament that I didn't want to sit through).

Hard to say. A lot of the criticism for DOA5 is based around technical in-game stuff that I don't know enough about to discuss.

SF4 and MVC3 criticism had a lot to do with aesthetics and character choices, though there was plenty of technical hate on stuff like FA, Ultras, and X-Factor as well.

What the consensus on the new jojo? I notice nobody is mentioning that game in their EVO 2013 predictions. Is it going to be more of a namco anime fighting game like Naruto or a traditional fighting game like the original jojo albeit a 3d fighter?

Also I think Persona looks dope as fuck. Funny that these niche games make better looking games than capcom. Scrath that no it isn't, capcom doesn't seem to work as hard as the competition, Tekken games production value>>>>SF.

It looks much more traditional than Naruto to me, going by the trailer.

I think most people just assume it will never get a US release and would never have mainstream appeal even if it did.

The games I see making it next year are...
1. SSF4AE
2. UMVC3
3. TTT2
4. Playstation All-stars
5. Kof

I feel MK might come back but if it doesn't then Injustice will take its place. I don't see much room for SFxT unless something with it changes within the next year.

Well it's being made by CyberConnect2 so I'm assuming it'll be in the style of their Naruto games.

PS All Stars would have to radically improve. It's impossible to follow as a spectator at this point.

Which kind of Naruto? It looked like the naruto fighting games before ultimate storm.

its really unlikely jojo gets a U.S release. I remember playing the old school arcade game and I don't even remember if the game was in English. Did Jojo ever get localized in arcades? Godbeard should know

That's what I surmised as well. Plus having FilthieRich as Namco community manager and a great JoJo player lends credence to this being a traditional fighter imo.

Balls...

Really? The technical stuff surrounding the game like the upcoming Tournament Mode alone are really good additions to fighting games.

In-game stuff like custom assists and IPS are fantastic, along with the game being really fun to play.

Skullgirls problem is that it came during a time that pretty much made it a side game for a lot of folks, and it requires too much dedication for a side game given the complexity of the system.

If the game had come out prior to KOF, or if the game came out in 2013, it would have done better. It got released at the worst possible time, and deserves a better fate. If Skullgirls patch doesn't come out this month, game will die (but Reverge made some money, and their next game would be highly anticipated)

If I was Reverge, what I'd do with Skullgirls is do a full-out sequel instead of DLC chars, aiming for mid-2013. Minimum of 4 new chars though. They'd probably do better with a fresh start and coming out during a time without a glut of fighters.

I have no faith in CC2 making a traditional fighter.

And there's zero chance of it coming over here anyway. Namco bringing over One Piece Pirate Warriors was a miracle, them bringing over a fighting game for a manga/anime nobody knows at all is basically a pipe dream.

You hate GG?

The thing that stops me from touching SG is its atrocious art design. Other than that it seems alright, like a mix of marvel and cvs2 with ratios.

You hate GG?

I think its more like

GG, GGAC, GGAC+

BBCT, BBCS, BBCS2, BBCSEX

Most of them being full priced. Atleast capcom makes it like 40 bucks per new installment.

and not 7 bucks for a dlc character

Haha well, if you don't like BB I don't see any point in getting it. I know that you're a Persona fan though so it must be difficult to deal with. Worse case scenario wait for a price drop or wait till you get to try it.

according to a lot of BB players, it plays nothing like BB. This came from Jiyuna and Lordknight.

I think he's referring to ASW's DLC, which is pretty bad.

FG's get away with gouging their customers more than most genres due to the nature of FG players.

As for GG- I don't think it's going to do all that well when it comes out- the folks who like GG will be all over it, but there's really no reason for new players to get into it, when there are good games that are more accessible out to play instead. GG will be the home for disgruntled old poverty gamers.

Never played SFvTK, what's so bad about it?

It's just really boring, it has some makings for a good fighting game in it, but the shit is really dry especially as a spectator. Frame traps are kinda pointless since throw range is really short so blocking a bunch of jabs(speaking of which jabs are stupid good in this game) is probably the best idea. 60-70% of matches end in time outs. Glitches and exploits. Autoblock gems, hell gems in general.

The main reason I see it there is because of that Sony $$$. Also not sure if the game would be played 1v1 or 2v2.

I also forgot to add to my list that I think P4A will have some sort of presence there. Not sure how big though, really looking forward to it next month.

After SFxTK, I don't see Evo picking a game solely on moneyhat. It will have to do something in the community first. SFxTK was an embarassment this year, and made no one look good.

o god....I just realize how long a match would be.

The game isn't stock based (it can be but thats not the default options), its time based which is like 5 mins.

5 mins per round, 2 out of 3? LOL HOLY SHIT you would have to run non-stop all-star pools just to hope you get done and even then it might still need another day.

I hope SCV makes a return, but with two new 3D fighters coming out, it's very much up-in-the-air, especially since TTT2 is pretty much a LOCK, and will be the Namco represented game.

I would love to see more SCV, but the finals were pretty much sent to die with the 10 am slot before SFxT. It was still pretty hype with a tiny audience, but I would lie if I said I wasn't a bit salty about it.

The game did not have the least number of entrants and it had plenty of international competition, I mean what the hell did they have to do to avoid the shitty time slot?

No, I'm referring to ASW as a whole. I hate that company and every game they've made.

Yeah, that sounds about right. I'll try it, and if I like it I'll get it used.

Couple of things wrong with this.

Guilty Gear had a ton more revisons.
GGX, GGXX, Reload, and Slash.
AC+ was optional (only had story stuff), but now I guess there's AC+R.

BBCS and BBCSEX were the only 2 disc revisions, both were $40.
For CS2, the balance patch was free, but characters were $7.

I don't see how any EVO game has been solely on "moneyhat".

Certainly the Cannons played the games/had them demoed and explained by the company and its testers, and judged them worthy.

I'd wager however that the Capcom name boosted SFxT's inclusion, given how free Wiz is with the jokes at the game's expense.

PS All Stars would have to radically improve. It's impossible to follow as a spectator at this point.

The issue is similar to SFxT. The tournament format of 1v1 or 2v2 needs to be decided and as a tournament director, the decision to make a pleasurable experience more for the players or for the spectators will determine the answer. If PS All-Stars holds up well in 1v1, that will be the format. If it does not catch on but would make an entertaining diversion between Top 8s, a 2v2 format could be very interesting. Also, it has not been mentioned if Doubles play would involve friendly-fire (the ability to hurt teammates). This was the balancing factor in Melee team play; friendly-fire was always on and a lot of strategy was necessary at the start of the game when all four players were present on the battlefield.

PABR is in good hands so its best to reserve judgement until it comes out.

The locked in games are imo:
SSFAE:2012 (obviously)
Umvc3 (obviously)
TTT2 (obviously)
Kof13 (one of the most hypest games. There would be huge backlash if it does not cut it)

The rest 2 spots are up in the air between Guilty Gear, Persona, Injustice if it comes out early next year and PABR.
