EVO 2012 Thread 2 Because one thread wasnt enough to hold all the hype and the salt

Watched the matches on the youtube and I'm surprised that everyone makes it seem like the matches were blowouts (aside from Infiltration dominating everyone). A lot of the rounds were down to the wire.

I think some people are just judging on box score alone as they say, and not how the games were played.

There were a lot of close rounds and stuff coming down to the wire.

I'm really, really surprised how many people said this year's EVO wasn't exciting. In the ballroom people were more nuts than last year for basically every game except Mortal Kombat. Even Soul was more popular than last year's Tekken finals.

AE on Friday was the best e-sport show I ever seen. Ever. I was screaming at the TV at some matches. It was fucking intense. Which is why the finals disappointed me. People fought with so much soul, clutch and dedication on Friday. Why the hell the matches were so one-sided on sunday?
But that is basically my only complaint and I repeated it some times, so I'll stop now. The rest was hype as hell. MK9 was hype because Perfect Legend was defending the title; KOF had the drama of Bala carrying the entire mexican nation on his shoulders; Marvel had Champ going from "oh, I'll win this free" to "Holy shit, these are hard", but overcoming them in the end anyway.
Virtua Fighter was cool to watch and apparenly had some cool upsets on the way to finals, but I missed it regrettably. Well, that's it. The event was awesome because great narratives that makes great championships arised. AE narratives (Dieminion, Daigo and PR Balrog) were just cut too quickly and too far from grand finals.

I sat next to an actual stream monster during finals. Basically he kept complaining and whining about how they should just put AE on instead of everything else. It was kinda irritating. How can you only enjoy watching AE? KoF was definitely insane, and as was Marvel.
I missed MK, SCV, and SFxT because well uh, I got really drunk the night before. :(

I was just kind of annoyed because how can you just sit there and complain instead of TRYING to enjoy everything? I understand how people prefer one game over another, but damn, at least keep it to yourself instead of crying all over the place.

All this talk reminds me last year when Aris had a moment with Kayo while commenting. He didn't knew a single second and he was mindblown by how cute she was. :P

At this point, there's just no shame.

If "He didn't knew a single second" is your way of trying to say that Aris didn't know, he did. He doesn't care.

Basically, GamerBee was a lot better than everyone at EVO, and Infiltration was a lot better than GamerBee.

Friday was awesome because we didn't just watch people win matches only to be decimated by either GamerBee or Infiltration shortly after :\

And I'm pretty sure everyone knew America had no chance at winning either, whereas last year we had our USA rep Latif in Grand Finals.

So can anyone from around the world join every capcom tournament? Or are players restricted to their area's Capcom tournament?

I have no idea, but my guess is that anyone can enter. Problem is that the number of entrances are limited to 256(per tourney?). So if you're Infiltration or Daigo, I guess you better be quick about filling out your form for SF4 or one of the other 3 games or you'll be out of luck.

I mean there is no Korean qualifier but Infiltration plans to enter as I've seen you mention before. So I guess anybody can fly over and enter. That would be great for us as viewers if we can see a runback between Daigo and Infiltration or other players from different countries.

Who said that? On the spectator side, things were way more hype.
While there is still room for improvement in other areas like keeping viewers informed on scheduling changes or downtime, one of the places that the stream really did much better in was content presentation. Crowd mic made the KOF finals all the more amazing, as did the improvements on player cams. It's a small thing but having Bala's closeup onscreen during character select instead of just the generic mounted camera really added to the tension at the time.

Instant replay was a great step too.

Would be nice if instead of the floating Evo logo they show highlights of previous fights and again an espn like ticker or showing updated brackets. But yeah the stream was incredibly well done and the crowd reactions definitely made everything so much more hype. Love seeing crowd reactions in general.

Rewatching Marvel top 8... LOL at Magus calling Champ's team "not top tier." It's like Magus reeeallly wants everyone to be playing Zero May Cry and he needs to constantly remind the stream about this.

The part that got me is how Magus was going on about how "If you don't play top-tier, you shouldn't be playing Marvel" literally minutes after Abagen won a match with a low-tier team.

My friend who never played fighting games:

This game looks really slow and boring compared to the other games.
Even with people who play fighting games, if you don't play VF you think it looks slow and boring, but in reality 100 things are happening every second. It's like sim racers compared to arcade racers. It's the high level play that sets your brain on fire. So for someone who doesn't play fighters, yeah they'd probably have nothing to clue them in on the insanity that was happening in the SF4 matches.

Watching Infiltrator play is more like being awestruck than hype, anyway.

who the fuck needs hype

these dudes are after money

they shouldn't give a fuck about what stream viewers think as they break down and destroy their opponents. and i wouldn't ever want them to.

Who the hell said they should ? people disappointed in the level of play and quality of matches /= force the player to artificially try and make a show out of it.

A competition is always more enjoyable when both parties are really really close and on a razor's edge (unless you're cheering for one side over the other in which case you want to see them dominate obviously)

Wait, Xiao Hai got decimated? Last I checked it was incredibly close.

I wasn't too hyped for the final day of EVO this year, save for KoF, which is surprising since I never really watched the game before. Definitely going to start following KoF on streams from now on.

Marvel was pretty good but left a sour taste in my mouth after Chris G (my personal fave to win the tourney) choked against FC. Props to Infrit for a great showing, though.

Then AE (which I was most looking forward to) took forever to start and when it did the matches were so lopsided that it wasn't really that interesting. It was especially disappointing for me because AE on Friday was so hype. Poongko and Daigo in particular didn't look themselves and that contributed to a boring AE top 8 imo.

If possible, I hope that they can schedule the matches to take place a bit earlier, I literally had to force myself to stay up for AE top 8.

Randomly throwing this out there... but... you guys just don't know how hard (no pun intended) it was for me to hold myself back.

Ever since I accidentally (no, seriously) bumped into Kayo Police that Thursday night, I've had weird feelings in my chest throughout the weekend.

dont quite get the reference (im EU)

Alex Jebailey is from Florida, hence cutting Florida from the rest of the US will get rid of him. The gif has been used almost every time a bad story from Florida shows up in the OT. I think it was used pretty well in this case.

Oh shit. Didn't know he was back. Maybe seeing him at Evo was an obvious giveaway. Was wondering why he was doing all the interviews again.
The dynamic duo ARE BACK! Cross Counter just wasn't the same after he left.

What's the recovery on the Yun move?

Man if I could get good at landing just Akuma's Ultra and Super, I would drive my friend insane.
Isn't Akuma's Raging Demon 0 frames?

If I'm reading this right, it's 5 to 13 frames on recovery depending on L, M, or H was used for his Zesshou Hohou, if they blocked it.

I don't care what anyone says, the best EVO moment this year was Ryota "STEP YOUR SPIDEY SHIT UP SON" Niitsuma

EDIT: btw, Capcom's panel is on YouTube?

I had two guys in the row behind me arguing when KOF started because some dude was like "FUCK THIS SHIT JUST GET MAHVEL ON". They were extremely close to fisticuffs and I was worried for my life since I was sitting right in front of one of them. Was getting ready to send a message to Wiz/Cannons in case they had to kick these dudes out, but fortunately they calmed down.

I love how Evo has grown, but this kind of thing never happened before Evo 2011. Just sayin'! . . .

Ppl like them think they're helping man I swear. Not a good look

I heard about this sort of stuff happening at Final Round too, Marvel fans talking shit about SCV when it was on stage.

I'd like to believe that crap like this only happens online, but it seems like that's not the case.

The Niitsuma thing was unintentionally hilarious. STEP YOUR SHIT UP.

Only made better by Mamespider hypeness the next day.
