Well, I assume people talk about and watch the games they enjoy and play right?

Hey, you've also bodied me online a few times!Sounds just like what I thought you were saying.
I went to one tournament. I'm in the midwest (Michigan for 10 years, Chicago for 1), there's not a lot out here unless I want to drive an hour away and an hour back. The tournament I went to was...well, let's just say it wasn't my cup of tea. Major respect to the guy who organized it, but two hours of traveling to play a handful of matches was not my idea of a good time on a weekday night. I would have went to UFGT this year (I just moved to Chicago), but it was during the weekend before my MA thesis paper was due - that obviously takes priority.
Have I organized anything? No. I'd love to one day when I have money for that kind of thing, but it's just not happening right now, when I have $120K in debt to take care of, want to own a home and have children, etc. The FGC is great, and I'd love to be a part of it, but I won't pretend it's on the top of my priority list.
I worked on this as I had time for the last year and a half:

It might not be the kind of thing you consider to be a contribution to the FGC, but it's something I've put a lot of effort into that many people have benefited from. Not everyone can contribute by hosting tournaments, unfortunately. I'm primarily an online warrior. It would be great to change that, and I plan to go to a Marvel tournament out in Brookfield this summer, but right now it's just how it is.
Kyohei using Magneto, Uh oh.
I play when I can...I sometimes wonder...

When I went to the one tournament I went to, I got a lot of hype. I came thiiiis close to beating the best player there with Phoenix on point (Vanilla). That being my first time ever playing the game offline, it was stressful as hell. I'd like to play offline more, but I really don't like having RL friends, and tournaments are sparse.Hey, you've also bodied me online a few times!![]()

Chris G counterpicking against Justin with his old team blew my mind. I thought I had accidentally loaded an old archive or something.Pretty much everyone is going to go to the drawing board after EVO. All the Japanese players have said that they are changing up their teams even Abegen and Chou. It's about time MarlinPie looked into it too, I felt that was really his biggest weakness in that he is a 3 character man and once Viper died the team was pretty free to hard zoning.
EVO showed one very important thing for Marvel and that's you need to be comfortable playing more than 3 characters if you want to succeed. Counter picking is potent now and since the game is now 3/5 you can benefit a lot from it. This is a stark contrast from last year's EVO where only Viscant was counter picking people and he was basically just rotating 2 characters max. There are way too many strategies, styles of play and characters to worry about and I haven't seen a singular team that is able to handle everything in the game yet. FChamp might have won EVO but his entire team could've been jacked up by a Hawkeye team and if Infrit counter picked him with Hawkeye instead of Sentinel then things would've been different.
About right...
You still play Skullgirls and Mahvel? I've been wanting to play Karsticles, but the guy was never on last time I checked.

It was a hypothetical "I might not like it". I started playing fighting games seriously when Marvel came out in February of 2011. I don't take fighting games seriously enough as a "community" to be upset.

I just played 25 matches against Slasher today! I even posted about it in the thread. I can play you tomorrow if you want. The last time you asked if I wanted to play I logged on right away and you weren't there.About right...

I certainly can't stop you. You sure do like to flaunt.I'll make sure I close your thread next time I'm on SRK. lol
I don't understand the first half of this sentence.I know how charmin some people are, so I guess I should make it clear I'm kidding.
I understand that things are changing. I understand your concerns are legitimate. I think we should be grateful to have a FGC at all these days. Developers are moving toward "cinematic" experiences this generation, and fighting games are threatened to go down that path. Flashy ultras and level 3 hypers are the half-way point that satisfies the interactive movie players and doesn't bother the fighting game fans enough to make them stop playing. Gaming in general is becoming a popular past-time; so much that the NYT wants regular gaming reviews now. Anything popular necessarily loses something of value. If fighting games are to survive at all in the current gaming industry, it needs the people you are attacking. It can't survive off of actual fighting game fans. That might have some unattractive consequences, but I don't think it's avoidable. And, no, what I said wasn't a "back in my day" post. Seriously, read what I wrote again. I have an issue with some of what's happening in the community, and a lot of other people agree with me.
I do follow you, and I know where you see this is going. I just don't think it's avoidable. Hell, how many pro players have started calling stream monsters crap like "my fans" and "my family" recently? I'm not an old member of the community, but it seems clear to me that stream monstering used to have some kind of in-built derogatory connotation. That seems to be less the case these days; they're becoming closer to football fans. And you're right, not everybody can contribute in the same way, but doing anything for the community that helps the general skill level go up a few points is a great thing. What isn't a great thing is sitting around your house, doing brazzers gifs and adding nothing to the community besides trying to promote the Kim Kardashians in the community. I have a huge issue with that shit.
I used to be pretty competitive back in the 3s era. Since then I'm more of an analyzer of the games and just a general supporter of the community. I'll buy the new games, try them out, study the gameplay behind it and try to understand the thought process of high level players, but nothing has caught my attention "fun" wise. Once in awhile I'll go walk/bus to a local event or a major (lets just say walking to SCR 2011 from LAX was a further walk then expected).
Doesn't help that I haven't found a game that has been as fun as 3s though. I'm hoping P4A changes all that.
Oh god, I know. 3s was so fucking amazing. 4 is such garbage.

i saw chavelo at kara' stream. *ha!*
LovelyI took a break from fighting games to reset my mindset on everything and get out of bad patterns. I just started marvel back up not too long ago, havent played skullgirls in a while either. I'm down for anything really.
Third Strike is an amazingly fun game. I was really really reaaaaally hyped for Persona, but I guess it wasn't meant to be(damned region lock).I used to be pretty competitive back in the 3s era. Maybe on Friday. I've become rustier and rustier by the day.I just played 25 matches against Slasher today! I even posted about it in the thread. I can play you tomorrow if you want. The last time you asked if I wanted to play I logged on right away and you weren't there.
This guy's Jill crossover counter tech is pretty good.

Big time opinion... a lot of people would think the opposite... just saying!
The game is balanced because nearly every character has stupid BS.Jill is way too slept on because she's hard as fuck to use.
In all honesty, Jill, MODOK, and x-23 make me the saltiest mother fucker on this planet. They are all full of stupid ass bullshit. Thankfully no one plays them

What was his name?My first match in Marvel was against a Hulk/Sentinel/Haggar team. He made it out of pools. I cried for about an hour, and then bought a ton of those alcoholic slushie drinks downstairs from the hall.![]()

www.twitch.tv/theonblastshow. CDjr is talking about VVV.
This is my favorite thing about the Marvel metagame right now.
I'm not a Marvel 3 fan, but I actually kind of like TAC, even though it's poorly implemented. I always felt that MvC3 kind of de-emphasizes mind games, so it's good to have something that rewards a good read. There definitely needs to be a bigger penalty for a failed TAC, though.Marvel 3 is fun, but I get way too angry because of stuff I think is dumb. TAC, XF, some of the hitboxes, and all that get me really salty real fast. I mean I picked up the game pretty fast, hit 3rd/4th lord (which I know is nothing to write home about) in like the 3rd week the game came out (vanilla) but there are too many things that make me go "Really?"
Yeah as I typed that I was reminded to what Rockefella said about finding a game as fun as 3s.
I realize 3s is a horrible SF game, but a good fighter in general. SF4 is more back to the old SF feel, but something about it doesn't make it fun for me. Also doesn't help that I picked up the game very late (SSF4) hoping that dudley was like 3s dudley. God what a rude awakening that was.

I can list all the other big games out there, they just weren't my thing. I guess the closest that I've played would be SC5. I wished Skullgirls came out earlier and wished KOF13 had a good netcode. But it is what it is.

Curious, what are your guys most fun fighting game? And has there been anything this generation that has come close to that level of fun?
Melee is one of my favorite all time fighters. Nothing from this generation has been as fun. Mahvel has gotten the short end of the stick too many times for me to feel the fun as much. That really sucks about the whole region lock thing. Why couldn't it happen to a game that nobody game two shits about like Dragon Age 2. QQ
