i'm excited. i love searching for coins and collecting shit in mario games.
So the coins really don't do anything? you just...collect them with no rewards other than seeing the number go higher and higher? a real shame
I hate this whole coin thing. Just give me platforming goodness.
In fact, I feel like getting 1 million will come far quicker than people are expecting. You can get several hundred coins just in a single level, from what I can tell. Most people will probably hit the million mark just from regular play, without having to grind.
That coin sfx is really going to get old, really fast.
That coin sfx is really going to get old, really fast. I was thinking of picking this up but it still looks exactly like every other NSMB game.
TBH I can't fully judge this game until I see the later levels and their design, but at least it's looking better than the original NSMB which is a good sign.
And lol @ some people saying 'The coin stuff looks pointless/stupid' and then saying 'Looks exactly the same as NSMB did'.
Yup, that's Mario.
Will be interesting to see how this sells. How did the SML3d do?
Hmm... how many levels were in the last NSMB game? I run through every level at least twice, (once with Mario, once with Luigi) but I didn't actually pause to do the actual math here because, you know, it's summer.Several hundred coins per level would barely get you a tenth of a million if you don't grind. So you'd have to use the inevitable exploits eventually, which would render the whole gimmick kinda pointless. The million coins thing is almost certainly an extra, though.
Last I heard, worldwide sales were around... 4-5 million? Something like that.
Wow, that second video may have just completely shifted my opinion.
it's kind of amusing that people don't complain about 2D Mega Man games being iterations.
What? I remember people complaining about tedious Mega Man sequels even back in the NES days!
A gamexplain video analysis shows that it could take 59 hours to get to 1 million coins. If it DOES end up taking a lot of grinding to get to 1 million, they better make the reward worth it

Everyone needs to watch this video.

Oh wow, the end of that second trailer has some incredible-looking level design. :O
Assuming you get 200 coins per level, which seems like a fair amount, you'd have to play 5000 levels to reach a million.

It's just part of the story. You have to collect 1 million coins so, now you have an excuse to follow the coins around a level no matter what kind of crazy platforming you have to do. 1 million coins might not sound like a lot, but it is. Someone did some quick math based on how many coins they got in the E3 demo and said it would take over 50 hours of play time to get to 1 million at that rate. So, you're really going to want to get every coin you see, any way you can, so you can beat the game.
I think I'm the only one that actually likes this new coin collecting aspect. Maybe they've gone too far, but the coins before were definitely far too sparse.
What happens when you get 1 million coins? Does it unlock the last level or something?
