King Kong, the PJ film, probably woulda been a gonzo trilogy if Peter Jackson just wanked long enough & filmed them all at the same time.

I love all three Indy films(yes, all three of them), but Last Crusade has been my favorite for years. It's very much Raiders II compared to the completely different adventure Temple of Doom was, but it hits all the right notes with so much infectious energy. Sean Connery is an excellent addition to the cast, his chemistry with Harrison Ford provides a lot of the humor and heart this entry has. The father-son relationship gives the movie an emotional backbone that the other two films simply don't have. And that Tank chase is THE best action set piece in the series, sorry Truck chase, sorry mine cart chase/bridge sequence.

Temple of Doom is like Die Hard 2 for me, still a very good film but I much prefer the 1st and the 3rd, and it's hard to decide out of the two which is my favorite.

Here are my thoughts on trilogies:

I hated Return of the Jedi, I loved Return of the King. So for me LOTR trilogy already has three great parts.

This will be the second trilogy without a bad film in it though. Oh and Back to the Future sequels suck. The second one less so than the third but it's still not very good.

I haven't watched the LOTR films so I can't judged, but I feel as if they have an unfair advantage since they were based on the books. You do have to commend Peter Jackson for apparently bringing them to life quite well, but again, the story was already there to begin with so he couldn't fuck that up. Well he could, but it was easier not to.

BACK TO THE FUTURE is the one of the greatest trilogies in my eyes, but I can see why people don't like it. I wasn't around when they first came out, so as a child I watched the trilogy back to back consistently growing up and it always blew my mind how many connections there were between the first two films, and the third film always seemed odd for not going all out with the time travel connections like the first two but I still loved it. The trilogy will always be endlessly rewatchable for me.

Ferreal though, fuck anybody who don't like the Toy Story trilogy.

Fuck'em. Don't even respond to this, just know you're fucked.

I adore the Toy Story films, but the reason I don't really regard it as a trilogy is because they seem so disjointed in relation to one another. Like most trilogies, there is a type of consistency, whether it's in the design or the story themes, and although Toy Story always had that "toy feels abandonment" type story, I never felt it was ever building up to something. I don't know how to explain it. To me, the films feel more like a season of a TV show rather than an actual film trilogy, as they could probably make another since they left the ending of Toy Story 3 very openended (and they have with those Toy Story Shorts.)
Holy shit I can't believe I forgot Indiana Jones. My favorite film of all time is probably Fellowship but for trilogies:

The Godfather > LOTR > Indiana Jones > Star Wars > Toy Story

Yeah I think Godfather and Star Wars trilogies have stinkers in them but the sheer strength of the first two entries (especially Godfather) makes them that good.

At the end of the day I'll probably end up putting Batman trilogy right under LOTR. I feel like putting Spiderman in there too but the third wasn't just a bad film (with some redeeming scenes) it ruined plotlines :(

Indiana Jones's trilogy was tainted by the fourth film. Try as I might I simply cannot forget its abhorrent mark it left on the series as a whole. The trilogy was perfect in my eyes (excluding some of the weird atmosphere in Temple of Doom, but I'll excuse it), and they just had to make another one.

sry guise but Indy, die hard dont count. (and pirates but not that anyone is gonna nominate it, anyway)

Once you make a fourth film, that shit be episodic. Not a trilogy.

Edit: In fact Die Hard/Indy have always been episodic. Pirates was a continuos story arc for the first three films, then the fourth happened and it went down the shitter.

I think Indy and Die Hard should count considering the time left from third to fourth.

Reminds me, temple of doom is on BBC HD later for those of you in the UK.

HD, no advert breaks, correct aspect ratio. Oooohhh yeeeaaahh. Raiders was last week and next week is the last crusade. I presume crystal skull is the week after that.

I still disagree.

Trilogies tend to have one over-arching story arc and each movie has its own sub arc. LOTR, Borune, the first three pirates, Nolan Bat trilogy, Raimi's spidey films, e.t.c.

Every Indy/Die Hard felt like self-contained episodes. Sure there are references to previous movies, but nothing that tied them together.

I don't even know what we're talking about, I just thought we were talking about favorite trilogies.

The '80s Indy trilogy is my favorite, followed by Toy Story and LotR. They all contain three great films that I don't feel suffer from one being much weaker then the other two.

We all seem to casually forgetting THE greatest trilogy of our times:

Amateur hour in here

If only they made a Sex In The City 3, that would take the crown. Probably the only trilogy I can masturbate to and be at least 60% sure the cast are mostly females.

Dollars Trilogy is still far and away the best trilogy ever, and don't give me that "it's not a real trilogy!" bullshit.

This shit can get fucked aight. Do people hate on Ocean's films because they're all about casino robberies man? Naw, they don't. Just because Toy Story 3 is a Toy Story film don't mean it ain't dope to the veins. That opening sequence in Andy's imagination? Fuggedaboutit. Right there is when you know, this shit demands respect - THE FIRST SCENE OF THE MOVIE MAN.

Its been a while, but didn't oceans 12 not have to do with a casino robbery? 11 was soooooo good and 13 was fun. Too bad 12 was bad or I would be nominating it here
