Just went to grab my Purple 3DS and look at it. Hadn't touched it all day, had work.

Look along the right side of the screen. Near the "R" for camera, vertically from there:

Hopefully the XL fixes this. Preordered blue.

hey, we really don't have to argue about this.
I have giant scratches on my 3DS and the L Buttons is broken as fuck. But...class actions suit... You can't be serious?!

Sure. I want my hardware to be awesome and perfect.

reality is: shit breaks.

yes, shit breaks, thanks for the insight. But when a company releases a product in which the designs flaws of the machine causes it to scratch itself, they do nothing about it, and the only solution is to buy a 3rd party screen protector, that equates to a classic class action lawsuit

where you also calling people who complained about the iphone 4 antenna problems crazy internet people?

and comparing a defective unit which has dead pixels to a design flaw is a joke

I would like to not go on and on about this. My opinion, is that if it takes a class action to get Nintendo (or any other manufacturer of goods), to not release poorly designed products which mutilate themselves through no fault of the owner - then yes. If Nintendo had made larger/longer rubber feet the problem would be non existent. If something forced them to fix the issues of future units during manufacture, so new owners won't have the same issues (put to rest): That would be good. Not bad.

My purple unit released on May 20, 2012. The issue is still there, in the same capacity it was Feb./Mar. 2011. They need to revise something in the method of assembly to fix it. Hopefully the XL fixes this particular 3DS issue. I won't tolerate it again. Not after spending 560$ + on 3DS units (after XL).

What is this I hear about the 3DS LL having shit speakers?

:/

Seriously, I'm kinda undecided if I'm trading my 3DS for one of these or not.
I cant relate to those who complain about asthetics or cheap looking build quality because I have one of these:

t7hIZl.jpg

Which looks like SEX.

And seeing as I cant buy a white LL here in Euroland, I'm leaning towards staying with my Ice White 3DS in the meantime. These speaker complaints are giving me good feelings about my choice.

Yeah, the issues with the DS Lite and 3DS aren't a matter "shit breaks". Those are design defects. Dead pixels, squeaky or defective buttons is kind of the crapshoot we all engage in when we buy anything. That's normal. The problem here is that Nintendo complicates the "shit breaks" issue by making it much worse because if you transfer your system before realizing something is broken, you're screwed.

The 3DS comes with a year long warranty so if something is wrong with your new 3DS you can send it in for repairs for free.

huh? yeah feel free to just quote a little cut out of my post. makes perfect sense now.

i stated that the 3DS was a faulty product. may the worst i've ever bought. it was just about his/hers "class action suit" comment, but that's settled. we're cool now?

oh and some fast and dirty KH DDD pics (DEMO):

With the DS Lite and 3DS it does me no good to trade in something that is going to be sent back with the very same inherent problems. The best way to avoid the faulty hinge on the Lite and the scratching/smudging on the 3DS unfortunately is to simply never buy one.

To people putting silicone/rubber pieces on the upper screens to avoid scratches, what kind of glue are you using?

Even soft glues leave marks over time. I peeled a Windows 7 and Intel Core sticker off my laptop and had to put them back in to cover discoloration stains D:

That looks really nice on the XL :O

I pick up my KH3D on Tuesday, when it releases here in the US. Gonna hold off, not even play it until the XL. It'll sit alongside Rhythm Thief unplaced, until the 19th. I preordered KH long before the XL was announced. Id like to experience it, alongside other games, for the first time played on the larger screen.

Sorry for ruffling your feathers with my opinion. I like your posts in general ^_^

Sidenote: will I be lost if KH3D is my first KH experience? Should I avoid the game, being unfamiliar with the series or is it the type of game that's a good game in general?

Using the rubber feet that came on my 360. The adhesive doesn't seem to leave a mark at all when I last checked. And even if it left a perma-mark, I'd rather have that than scratches on the screen (talking regular 3DS here).

The ones I am using already have some kind of glue on them.

That's not really what I was getting at. You said;

The problem here is that Nintendo complicates the "shit breaks" issue by making it much worse because if you transfer your system before realizing something is broken, you're screwed.

Which is what I was replying to when talking about the warranty. If you do a system transfer to a faulty system you're not screwed because you can send it in to Nintendo for free.

I've read some complaints about the sound and speakers in the XL. The default Surround sound setting is a bit too quiet and not up to par with the 3DS, but I switched it to Stereo and it sounds bright, rich, clear, and loud at max volume. I'm very happy with the sound quality now.

Fuck yeah problem solved :D

Took the two rubber circles from the 3DS cradle

Sticked them in so both touch the Select/Home/Start bar and voilá

Doesnt look too bad IMO

No more cloth/napkin 3DS sandwich

edit: It also happens to align with the depth of the outer rim of the upper 3DS screen. Perfect

Looks pretty proffesional of you ask me. Way better than the 360 feet ones. Better placed also. Godspeed, my son!'

No, you can feel perfectly that you are pressing it, but it doesn't click.

You can barely feel them tbh, there is hardly no give or feed back.

That's. Umm. Odd. So the only way you know if you accurately hit a button is if the device reacts accordingly?

Check here from 7:45 onwards they talk briefly about the select/start/home buttons, Brad says it's mushy but they arn't.

imo they are pretty poor.

I have the thing, I can feel them perfectly.

Wait for the white 3DS or get the XL. Hmmm...

Wait, you guys don't even have the original white 3DS for sale? NoA is being a bit shite lately.

NoA has been shit ever since 2008/2009. They've just been getting continuously worse until they overtook NoE as being the worst branch of Nintendo.

EDIT: Oh, and the white 3DS XL has matte finish shoulder buttons so I'm worried they'll turn yellow like the DS lite. I'm a clean freak and yet Nintendo white products always have aspects that turn yellow no matter how much I baby them and continually was my hands (sticks on nunchuck, d-pad on Wiimote, shoulder buttons on DS lite/DSi). The white 3DS is the only white product with no white rubber or matte white plastic anywhere so I'm willing to risk it.

;) we're cool. always take a risky jump for your opinion!

oh and just for GAF, i took this shot. it's really spacey out there.

edit:

goddammit! what a lovely looking system in closeups! hardware porn! :P

That's a really, really beautiful picture. That's the best looking image for silver I've seen: (o-0)"!

thanks for the pics

To the members (and press) who've mentioned the shell seems to unclip easily...just how easily?

Is it bad enough that if the XL ever drops, while out and about, that the bottom clip/shell will go flying off of the system and it's innards spew out?

Seems like a small thing, until I think about it ever taking an accidental fall and it's outer shell breaks off *_*

It's attached with two screws, so that situation is unlikely to occur.

That's not good to hear...

It's nothing drastic, it's just the way the thing is designed. I can run my nail down the side, and pull it away on one half of the system. It's not gonna jump off without me unscrewing two screws and trying to pull it off. It definitely feels like it meant to be swapped out though, if not then I don't quite understand why its been designed this way.

Maybe they originally planned faceplates? Who knows...

Will be good for anyone that wanted all black though - get a top and bottom black shell and switch em! :D

Just drained the battery on this playing 3D Land and Kid Icarus, it lasted 4:20, the small one used to last about 3 hours, so not bad.

What brightness level are you playing on? I get easily 4:30 with my launch 3DS with 3D and volume on max (brightness on 2, which is fine in the house).

nvm, already answered.

The only annoying thing for me about the 3DS XL is that I've pretty much stopped playing 3DS stuff in anticipation for it lol. I've got loads of games I want to play but in my mind I'm like no I want to wait for the big screens now!

hey, that cradle situation isn't too shabby, might do that myself if the problem persists.

this, yeah...im still plugging away at Theaterythm but stuff like RER and OoT are just sitting there waiting for a proper screen now, heh.
