This is what happens if you have a really bad anger management, like me:

Don't know if I should get a new one or just save the money. As far as I remember savegames or stored on the cartridge, right? So, if I get a new one I won't lose my SM3DL saves, right?

I've been trying to get a refund from Nintendo since yesterday on my XL. I've seen other units and while some of them have the yellow screen issue in a lighter way it's still pissing me off. It's made me mad enough to the point of also willing to break it like tpax :p (well not really, but I am pretty mad)

It's just sloppy screen manufacturing by Sharp, period. I'd rather wait till they have good batches than put up with it. I don't want to spread FUD, but if you are anal about screens like me, it can be really irritating...

They're all the same.

You're within the return period so you should contact the retailer, not Nintendo.

To me, this is what happens when you really don't pay for nice things out of you own pocket.

Retailer won't trade in/refund when seal is broken unfortunately (could've gone to my standard place but this one had a deal at 180euros), already tried and they offered me another one after much complaining (they saw it too when comparing to another unit). I can assure you mate, not all are the same. Maybe I'm just really unlucky with this batch but the 4 units I've seen had differences

My original 3DS is almost squeaky smooth in the transition from 3D to no 3D, and virtually no yellowing of whites to speak off. I really wish I had a decent camera to show it off, but I imagine the differences are too small to pick up

^bloody hell man, throw it on the couch next time...

I remember smashing my Wheel after a particularly bad MKWii game, but it was like, 5£

on thread: I haven't noticed scratches yet....hope to continue that way!

Managed to snag my neighbor's camera just now, you can kinda see it now:

Like I said, to some people it might not bee too much of a worry, and really it only happens to certain whiteish backgrounds like the one you see, but it's definitely there on my unit.

edit, I'm finding some people are saying it was the same on the original 3DS and that it can become less yellowy or even disappear over time

I want this (haven't had a handheld system since the Gameboy Color :p) but I want to wait on a better color. Either that silver or just all black would work for me.

Really, take a chill pill -_-

Ahahaha gotta love how your avatar works with your quote XD/
On topic I've gotten my 3DS XL (blue) and gave my sister my old one =p. I'm loving the screens so HUGE, only problem I'm having is making sure I don't scratch the screens before my screen protector arrives, I hate how One Piece Unlimited Cruise's fishing game makes you draw circles over and over =/

Edit: Oh and the lock for 3D is really useful that it makes you wonder why the original didn't have it.

Why would you do this? Why....

Finally a teardown! Oh wait, not the kind of teardown I envisioned.

friend cancelled his august trip to the US (he was gonna get me one), im a sad panda

he'll go in october/november or something like that :(

oh well

My friend, who works at GameStop, just told me a story about a woman who brought her son in to buy some 3DS games for his new 3DS XL. They just got back to the States from Europe.

They were angry when they left.

you know, at the least they should unify digital purchases

No way to import one?

That's terrible.

What exactly is the reasoning behind region locking? Does it have anything to do with currency exchange rates?

Probably to an extent, but then there's always the pricing variations. The official reason is because of the ratings system put in place, and to be honest that probably really IS a factor given how Nintendo tends to handle crap like this. They've also cited online shops.

Hmm. Does it benefit the manufacturer in any significant way, or is it merely a precaution?

But what about the scratched screens?

I'm not letting a bit of scratching ruin it. Its dissapointing, but im trying to ignore it. Got some stickies on the top now just to ensure it doesn't get worse.

Everything else is perfect apart from those shitty speakers.

Well, for one Japanese handheld games go for WAY more than in the US, and similar goes for Europe. By eliminating imports they can prevent people form importing a cheaper game, especially if there's no disadvantages to that. I also imagine it avoids any potential legal issues IE a game being licensed only for one region, as you'd have to really go out of your way to play it with this sort of restriction in place.

It's really frustrating for people who want games that don't come out in their territory though, IE Europeans importing localized games from North America (and vice versa every so often) or either group wanting to import games from Japan.

Or if you're overseas and happen to purchase a system before leaving. I don't think many people would import games because they are cheaper. I can't imagine developers making substantially more money because of region locking. It seems like a poor decision.

This is exactly what my XL screen looks like. Yellowish. BUT, whenever I'm playing a game, I tend to forget about it quite soon. It also depends on what angle you're playing, at times it's barely noticable.

Whenever I feel glum about it I just tell myself Nintendo is probably doing me a service in the long run by providing me with a warmer screen that is much easier on the eyes :p At least I won't go blind!

I've been playing ten hours or so of Kingdom Hearts on it and gosh, I'm so glad I got one. The game looks AMAZING on the XL. I daresay it might even be a must for this game, there's so much going on at once what with the multiple enemies, special effects, and of course all the menus... it must be quite the cramped experience on the regular 3DS.

Gotdamn, that silver/black model looks amazing. Is it just the lighting in the room, or is there supposed to be a subtle champagne color at indirect angles?

I might just...wait for more color options in NA, because this seriously makes the blue and red models we're getting look even more unappealing.

Otherwise, it looks majorly improved in every possible way, and big relief on the stylus side-access.

But what about the scratched screens?

I have that Giant two days before launch and i have it with me every day. I carry it around for 10 hours almost each day and i'm not the most carefull person.

still no scratch at all.

oh and today my carrying case came in. Will post pics later.

Dang, finally watched some videos of Monster Hunter in action on this thing. Part of the reason I bought it right away is to give MH the screen size it deserves.
