Fifa 13 - uses Wii U friendslist; better pitch and crowd; missing a few features

So uh, if Dead Rising 1 and 2 can have shitloads of zombies and fairly complex environments, how come a football game has to resort to 2d cutouts when it comes to the crowd?

Players look good, ai for all the players on the pitch physics for the ball the players etc etc crowd is the last thing on there minds and so it should. All extra ummmph should be going to ai and such rather than things you only see in replays or set plays.

Do some of you people just try to troll Wii U in any place that you can?

Do you really care about Fifa at all? Cause if you did, how much better it looks on Wii U [or any other nextgen system] would be quite low on your list of concerns.

Thread title is quite blatanatly trollish/pessimistic as well; I don't know which mod edited that, but I would send a PM to him and ask how s/he forgot to add 'a lot of extra features and modes added' but not 'missing a few features';

And I like how bothered you are by someone on a message board making a joke about a video game system. Quit being so serious and taking people joking about Nintendo so seriously.

If you play FIFA, you can tell they don't really invest any efforts in the visual part of the game. They only focus on gameplay, that's very good, but the visual aspect of the game is really starting to suck.

I don't see them making any huge changes until the next-gen consoles are out and selling well, tho.

PES is working on a new version of the game using the Fox engine, that should put some pressure on EA to make FIFA a little bit more good looking.

Lets hope so, the demo from this years game is a step in the right direction.

it's ok when it's every now and then, but when it's in every Wii U thread to the point of derailing almost every one of them, it gets frustrating. Why do people care to post their 'jokes' in every thread about Wii U if it's not important, is beyond me...

Because many on GAF enjoy video games, like discussing them, but dont take it that serious. And its not just Nintendo. Go into an EA thread, Square, Vita, etc. nintendo isnt treated any differently.

DAT SHIRT STAPLED TO THE PANTS.

I can't believe how, after years of generation, everything most devs have managed to do are PS2 tech-level games, just with fancier effects, poly count and resolution. Then some people on GAF wonder why some of us laugh hysterically whenever there's a next-gen talk and people start mentioning "OMG improved physics and AI".
Do you have any examples of where physics are exactly the same in PS2 and PS3 games? You say most devs, but you only have to give 4-5 examples.

Well, it's rendering the thing twice. One for the Game Pad and the other one for the TV. You know, new hardware, short dev times, etc.
Is it 60fps on both screens?
The 2nd screen is just a menu from what i've seen. This doesnt require much extra rendering. When you have other things on both screens, i believe that it just mirrors the image, so it doesnt render it twice. They say in the video interview i linked to earlier that somone had the idea that it would be cool if you could have a different view on the touch screen, but it wasnt possible (for now at least) because they didnt have extra hardware power to do that extra rendering.

I believe there's at least one point in EA's presentation of this where the two screens were showing different in-game views (during a free kick if I recall correctly).

Seriously? Gaming is the most important thing to most people on here. At least thats my impression.

Four shadows thanks to multiple reflectors, maybe? At times, they count of shadows can go higher, depending on the number of light sources.

It's just that I found it ridiculous that there'd be 4 HUGE light sources in one stadium to pull of that kind of effect. like 4 BIG Batsignal type of lights in each corner of a Stadium. Makes no sense. It was a simple observation. Not here to troll Wii U, as I want one this fall.

In all seriousness though, FIFA and other sports games have been doing this for years. Have you really only just noticed?

I didnt see the whole precentation, but they show segments of it in the Gametrailers.com video interview. I didnt see 2 different views going on at the same time. There are some movements in the menu on the touchscreen, but that is more like "Flash graphics" (or what i shall call it), not a second render of the actual game.

The FIFA guy says it here at around 3:50 in this video :

There are a few posters that as soon as they show up, a thread is dead. I saw one of them near the bottom of the first page and yup, theory confirmed when I clicked through to page two.

On topic, I couldn't really care less about the graphics in a game like this, so higher crowd res is whatever. New gameplay features sound neat though, but I wish we knew more about Wii U's online in general so I could contextualize it all.

Uh, that's pretty much exactly what floodlights are.

Okay, the way its handled in FIFA isn't totally realistic (and Stamford Bridge has different lighting anyway), but of all the inaccurate things in the game, I don't think it's the shadows specifically you should be calling out.

In a FIFA stadium? If you look at the picture, at most you see 2 shadows.

I'm not a football/soccer fan. That's thing that popped up for me when I saw those screenshots.

Have you never been to a stadium before? Four "bat signal" arrays of floodlights in each corner of the pitch is SUPER common.

I wasn't being serious with the picture. Fair enough though.

Thanks. Is there a video of this?

By the way, how do i keep a quoted picture steady? If i click on it, it goes to the original size, but as soon as i try to navigate the picture, it just minimize again.

Click it and hold it down, and then scroll with the mouse wheel. Or just right click and open it in a new tab I guess. It's from Eurogamer.

Also here's the video.

I'm on a laptop with only a touchpad now, so i cant scroll :\ (i think?). But i'll keep in mind that i can open it in a 2nd tab, thanks :)

Thanks for the video. I see that there is indeed a 2nd render there. It looks like the touchscreen shows much less details (like it looks darker, probably turns off extra light sources), so i guess that it works fine when there are "still" situations like that. Not trying to downplay it at all, but it doesnt render the game twice all the time.

jesus, dude are you really complaining about the number of shadows? I dont know why such ridiculous observation is always displayed to the graphical capabilities of Nintendo

Maybe because Wii U is coming out 7 years after a system that looks as good graphically.

So you troll on Nintendo, because some people also troll in other threads...

And you think it's fun.
When done right, perhaps, sometimes.
When done wrong #LOL, you must know it's not.

Did you read my previous posts? I want a Wii U. I don't see how, in any of my posts, i'm taking shots at the Wii U. Seriously.

At what point do people stop thinking this is an interesting or novel idea?

SNES games at launch looked worse than SNES games at the launch of the Playstation.

Playstation 2 games at launch looked worse than Playstation 2 games at the launch of the Xbox.

Xbox 360 games at launch looked worse than Xbox 360 games currently do at the impending launch of the WiiU.

This is the nature of game development.

Cool.

It's obvious that most graphics seen in released WiiU footage is graphically similar to current generation consoles. So, what exactly are you adding to the discussion here?

We all get how you feel. WiiU graphics not good! Need look better than PS3/360!

It all looks like you really want to say how much the WiiU sucks but are scared to because you'll be accused of tolling.

Also your rebuttal is short sided and doesn't really address his statement. Games did look better at the end of generations than at the beginning. Your points are not mutually exclusive and you didn't prove him wrong.

I would have said the same thing last year if you asked me. However, If you watch real matches on TV, you will see this effect.

SNES games at launch looked better than the final NES games
PSX games at launch looked way worse than the final SNES games
PS2 games at launch looked better than the final PSX games
PS3 games at launch were of higher resolution than the final PS2 games
Wii U games at launch look as good as the final PS3 games.

fix'd that for you.
I'm not a fan of the pixel mess that was on display on psx.

To be fair, you'd have to compare 3D games on PS1 to something like Star Fox or Stunt Racer FX. Compare Super NES games to 2D games like Rayman or MK3 and the PS1 is better.

Wii U sucks right now. I won't get banned for saying that. When it has a Mario Galaxy it will not suck.

Fact is I got dragged in to this thread by some bro quoting me from another thread. I'm the one being targeted here. The only agenda is an anti butter_stick one.

Well it does have Mario Galaxy...you know with it being playable on it and all.
And you got dragged there?
Do you have a butter_stick signal like batman?

I still prefer the minimalim of Starfox or Stunt Race Fx to the jumble mess of the psx.
The game part also sucked so that didn't help.

And the Wii isn't much better than the Gamecube. The jump from those two games is what you'd expect from the jump of those two consoles.
For god's sake, man. Stop poking him. He will never stop. Let's get this thread back on track.

It's one thing to say a positive interview must be a lie/a Nintendo moneyhat.
The day anyone can get in any thread and tell others the console they are interested in sucks... will be a bad day for GAF.

An unreleased console with an average line up obviously sucks. You don't judge consoles by their launches. But you also have to earn your assent from sucktitude.

Only 1 more butter_stick you can do it!
And then this thread will have more posts about how WiiU sucks and isn't what you want it to be more than anything in Fifa13.
